Bath repair in Furze Platt

Bath repair at your home in Furze Platt

It pays to repair bath damage while it’s small. Exposed metal on enamelled baths soon rusts, and on acrylic, a crack keeps spreading while the bath flexes. A repair stops both. Whether it’s a cracked acrylic bath and a chipped rim or side, we can typically put it right, on roll-top & freestanding, acrylic and pressed steel enamel alike.

The work is covered for a year after we finish. If anything isn’t right, ring us and we will sort it.

What we are called out for in Furze Platt

Rust tends to begin where water collects, around the waste, under the taps or in an old chip. Once water reaches the steel or iron, rust spreads under the enamel.

If you can see any of these, send us a picture:

  • Scuffs and scratches in the surface
  • Rust by the waste and overflow
  • Damage beneath the taps
  • A kit repair that didn’t last

What your quote should include

  • How to look after the finish
  • Whether the price covers travel
  • Whether they match the colour on site
  • What the guarantee covers, and for how long

10 questions to ask before you book

What happens on the day

We agree an arrival time beforehand, so you know when to expect us. On site, it takes a morning or an afternoon in most cases. We leave the room clean.

  1. We start by looking at the damage and confirming the plan with you.
  2. Any rust and loose material comes out, and the area is degreased.
  3. The damage is filled in layers and shaped to the curve of the bath.
  4. The colour is tinted by hand until it matches.
  5. The repair is polished to the same gloss as the bath and left to cure.

DIY kit or professional repair?

It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The trouble is that kit repairs frequently look fine at first and then fail, and the old filler has to come out before a proper repair.

If you’ve already tried a DIY fix, that’s fine. We take the old repair out and do it properly, so it won’t stop us repairing it. Just mention it when you send photos, as it can add time.

Looking after it afterwards

It’s all simple stuff:

  • Store metal items away from the bath
  • Protect the bath with a towel when doing jobs nearby
  • Avoid scourers, wire wool and gritty cream cleaners
  • If an acrylic bath flexes, have its feet adjusted

Leave the repair to cure for as long as we say before running a bath. From then on, mild cleaning is all it needs.

Avoid standing in a cracked acrylic bath until it’s fixed. Each time it flexes, the crack grows, and water can get through to the floor below.

Should you replace it?

Replacing a fitted bath generally means a plumber, removing the old bath, re-tiling and a new panel and getting rid of the old bath. A repair deals only with the damage in one visit. Repairs from £95, with every job priced individually. What it costs depends on how much damage there is and what kind, what it’s made of and how many items we do on one visit. We give a fixed quote from your pictures, so you know the cost before you book.

How we price bath repair

Prices start from £95. There’s no charge for travel to Furze Platt. The price depends on:

  • Where the damage is and how we get to it
  • What the surface is made of
  • Doing more than one item at once
  • The type of damage

Instead of hourly rates, we price the entire job up front. It depends on the damage, the material and access.

Getting a price from photos

Photographing the damage takes a minute, and it saves a visit. Try to send:

  • A coin beside the damage so we can judge size
  • A photo taken from further back
  • Any details about the material
  • A close-up of the damage, in focus

To get a price, send a couple of pictures using our quote form or ring us. We will tell you honestly whether it can be repaired.

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Cast iron

A cast iron bath is heavy enough that most people never want to move it. Only the enamel surface wears or chips, and that’s what we repair.

Composite and resin

Stone resin and composite baths are heavy and solid. Chips and scratches are filled and matched, just like other baths.

Furze Platt questions

Can a cracked acrylic bath be fixed?

Most of the time. We reinforce the crack from behind, then fill and refinish the front, so we need access under the bath.

Is there any odour?

There can be some smell while we work, so we ventilate the room. It fades as everything cures.

What about rust by the waste?

Yes. We take out the rust and any loose enamel, fill the area, then colour-match the finish.

How quickly can you book me in?

It depends on the time of year and where you are. We will offer you dates when we send your quote.

Can you repair a failed DIY repair?

Yes. We take out the old repair and do it properly. Mention it when you send photos.

Can you quote from pictures?

Typically, yes. Clear photos let us give you a fixed quote without visiting.

Is a repair better than a new one?

In most cases, yes. Replacement brings removal, refitting and making good, which a repair avoids. We’ll be honest if it’s not worth it.

Is it messy?

Dust sheets and masking go down before we start, and tidy up before we leave.
