Bath repair in Gospel Ash

Signs you need bath repair in Gospel Ash

Most bath damage comes from something dropped: a shampoo bottle, a shower head, a tile or a tool during a refit. On enamelled baths, any chip down to the metal will start to rust.

The most common problems we’re called about are:

  • A hole punched through by something heavy
  • Snagging damage from a refit
  • Scuffs and scratches in the surface
  • Damage beneath the taps

Questions to ask before booking

  • Whether cleaning and preparation are in the price
  • What aftercare is recommended
  • Whether the colour is mixed to match
  • How changes to the job are handled

Our hiring checklist

Bath repair in Gospel Ash, done in place

A typical bath repair is a few hours’ work, and you can normally bathe again the following day. There’s no need to book a plumber or tiler, because the bath does not move. We work on roll-top & freestanding, cast iron enamel and pressed steel enamel, and common reasons people contact us are an old repair that has yellowed or come loose and cracks in an acrylic bath.

A one-year guarantee comes as standard.

FAQs for Gospel Ash

Can you repair a failed DIY repair?

Regularly. The old material comes out, any rust is treated, then we repair it properly.

I’m a tenant. Can you help?

Yes. Check with your landlord; we can send the quote to them too.

Will you leave a mess?

We protect the room with dust sheets and masking first, and tidy up before we leave.

Is a bath repair durable?

A properly prepared repair should last a long time, and ours come with a one-year guarantee. Gentle cleaning helps it last.

Is it OK to have pets in the house?

On the day, the room should be kept clear of pets and children.

Do you repair coloured baths?

Yes, coloured baths are no problem. The colour is tinted by hand on the day.

Can you redo someone else’s repair?

Yes, regularly. Removing the old work can add time, and that’s in the quote.

Is repairing better than replacing?

Typically, if the item is otherwise sound. A repair avoids removal and making good. If replacing would be better, we will say so.

For landlords and businesses

We regularly price jobs from inventory or check-out pictures. You can have a price before you arrange access, and we liaise with tenants about access if you’d like us to.

We work for landlords, letting agents and housing providers in Gospel Ash as well as householders. A repair between tenants keeps the property empty for less time, and it costs much less than replacing.

Should you replace it?

Cast iron baths especially are worth keeping: getting one out, particularly from an upstairs bathroom, is a big job, and a like-for-like replacement can be expensive. Repairing it leaves it where it is. Prices start from £95. No two jobs are quite the same, so each one is priced on its own. What’s damaged, how badly and how easy it is to reach all make a difference, and doing several things on one visit costs less than separate visits.

Honest limits

We’d rather lose a job than do one that will not last, so here’s what a repair can’t put right:

  • Leaking fittings, which need a plumber
  • A bath that flexes because its feet or cradle have failed (that needs fixing first)
  • Rust that has eaten right through a steel bath

Not sure? Send pictures and we’ll give you a straight answer.

Surfaces we repair

  • Whirlpool & spa baths
  • Cast iron enamel
  • Roll-top & freestanding
  • Acrylic
  • Pressed steel enamel

How to care for the repair

So the finish stays in good condition for years:

  • Get a dripping tap fixed promptly
  • Get any new chip repaired before it rusts
  • Keep metal cans and razors off the surface
  • Give the bath a quick rinse after use

Care for the repair the same way as the bath: warm water, washing-up liquid and a soft cloth. Keep scouring pads and gritty cleaners away from it.

Rust under enamel spreads surprisingly quickly. A chip the size of a fingernail can become a much larger patch if it’s left for months, so it pays to deal with it early.

How the visit works

It’s a tidy, low-fuss visit. We agree the arrival time in advance, cover and mask the work area, then carry out the work, which normally takes a few hours, depending on the damage. If we find something your pictures didn’t show, we’ll explain it before carrying on.

  1. We start by looking at the damage and confirming the plan with you.
  2. Any rust and loose material comes out, and the area is degreased.
  3. We build up the filler in layers, shaping it to the bath.
  4. The colour is tinted by hand until it matches.
  5. The repair is polished to the same gloss as the bath and left to cure.

Getting ready for the visit

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Acrylic

Acrylic is light and warm to the touch, but it needs firm support underneath. Repairs to cracks are reinforced from the back.

Composite and resin

Composite baths are dense and solid. Chips and scratches are filled and matched, in much the same way.

DIY repairs versus a professional job

Kits are cheap and easy to find, but the repairs we redo most frequently are DIY ones that have discoloured or lifted. Getting it right first time is normally cheaper.

What a professional repair adds is preparation, colour matching and finishing. We prepare the area properly, mix the colour on site and polish the finish to match, and the work is guaranteed.
