Bath repair near Greenrigg

Why repair rather than replace?

Cast iron baths in particular are worth repairing: they’re very heavy to remove, especially upstairs, and replacing like for like isn’t cheap. Repairing it leaves it where it is. Our bath repair starts from £95. There are no surprise extras on the day. The price we quote from your pictures is the price you pay, unless the damage turns out to be different, in which case we talk to you first.

Why us?

  • Nothing taken out or refitted
  • Usually one visit, start to finish
  • CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor accredited
  • Work done at your home or business

Bath repair in Greenrigg without replacing anything

We repair just the damaged spot and colour-match it to the bath, which costs far less than replacing a fitted bath. Most baths can be used again the next day. We work on roll-top & freestanding, whirlpool & spa baths and cast iron enamel, and people most often call us about damage done while the bathroom was being fitted and a hole punched through by something heavy.

Big or small, it’s backed by a one-year guarantee.

Rusty chip next to a bath plughole, before and after repair

The process

When we visit, the technician arrives at the agreed time, protects the room with dust sheets and masking and gets started. The job generally takes a few hours, depending on the damage. We tidy up before we leave and tell you when it’s ready to use.

  1. First, the area is cleaned and any loose enamel or rust is removed.
  2. The chip or crack is filled, then sanded level with the bath.
  3. We tint the finish on the day to suit your bath’s shade of white or colour.
  4. We apply the finish coats and polish the repair so it blends in.
  5. The repair is left to cure, and most baths can be used the next day.

Preparing for the visit

  • Mention if the room is upstairs or in a flat
  • Make sure the room can be ventilated
  • Clear toiletries, mats and anything else from around the area

Advice

FAQs for Greenrigg

What about rust by the waste?

Yes, very often. The rust is cut back to clean metal and sealed before we fill and finish it.

Do I have to be there?

Yes. We need access to the room while we work, at a time we agree with you.

Is it OK to have pets in the house?

Please keep children and pets out of the room during the visit. The rest of the house is unaffected.

What happens after I send pictures?

We look at the photos and reply with a fixed price and some dates. If anything’s unclear, we’ll ask for another photo.

How long does the repair take to cure?

Most baths can be used the next day. We confirm the time before we leave.

What does bath repair cost?

Repairs from £95. Because every job differs, we price from photos. You’ll get a fixed figure before booking.

Can you price it without visiting?

Normally, yes. A close-up and a wider photo are enough to give a fixed quote.

Is there a call-out fee?

There is no separate call-out charge. The fixed quote covers the visit and the work.

What affects the price in Greenrigg

Repairs from £95. We charge the same across the UK, including Greenrigg. What changes the price is:

  • What kind of damage it is
  • How hard the colour is to match
  • Any earlier repairs that need removing first
  • The material and finish

A repair is priced on what needs doing, not your postcode. You’ll see the full price before you book, with nothing added on the day.

How to get a fixed quote

It only takes a minute to photograph the damage, and it saves a visit. Try to send:

  • Any earlier repairs or coatings
  • The material, if you know it
  • Where you are, by postcode
  • Something in shot to show the size

Email us a picture of the damage and one of the whole item, with your ML7 postcode, and we will reply with a fixed quote.

What we can’t put right

To be straight with you, some problems need a different fix:

  • Water coming from the waste or taps rather than the bath
  • Wear across the whole surface, which needs re-enamelling
  • A bath that flexes because its feet or cradle have failed (that needs fixing first)

If in doubt, send pictures and we’ll say what we think before booking.

Surfaces we repair

  • Acrylic
  • Roll-top & freestanding
  • Whirlpool & spa baths
  • Pressed steel enamel
  • Cast iron enamel

What we’re called out for in Greenrigg

The usual cause is something heavy dropped into the bath, and a lot happen during bathroom refits. Cracks in acrylic have a different cause: the bath isn’t properly supported, so it flexes under weight.

Typical reasons for a call-out include:

  • Chips along the edge of the bath
  • Rust by the waste and overflow
  • Holes from dropped items
  • Damage done while the bathroom was being fitted

Questions to ask before you book

  • Whether cleaning and preparation are in the price
  • What happens if the damage is worse than the pictures show
  • When it can be used again
  • Whether they match the colour on site

10 questions to ask before you book

Keeping it looking good

Simple care helps the repair last. Our advice:

  • Don’t scrub with anything abrasive
  • Do not leave a fresh chip for long
  • Use a soft cloth and washing-up liquid for everyday cleaning
  • Don’t leave razors or cans standing in the bath

Keep metal objects like razors and cans off the surface, because they can mark the enamel. A dripping tap should be fixed early, too.

Avoid standing in a cracked acrylic bath until it’s fixed. Each time it flexes, the crack grows, and it can start to leak underneath.

Should I try a DIY kit first?

DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can make a small mark look better. The trouble is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler often lifts.

A kit can be fine for a tiny mark out of sight. For damage in plain view, cracks, holes or rust, or coloured finishes, a professional repair is worth it.

What your bath is made of matters

Composite and resin

Composite baths are dense and solid, and frequently freestanding. Chips and scratches can be filled and colour-matched, just like other baths.

Cast iron

A cast iron bath is heavy enough that most people never want to move it. Only the enamel surface wears or chips, and that’s the part we put right.
