How we handle bath repair in Harbledown

A damaged bath doesn’t have to mean a new bathroom. We fill the damage, shape it to the curve of the bath and refinish it, with the colour mixed on site. We’re frequently asked to fix chips along the edge of the bath and a kit repair that didn’t last, in cast iron enamel, roll-top & freestanding and acrylic.

The work is covered for a year after we finish. Just call us if there’s a problem and we will come back.

DIY repairs versus a professional job

It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The risk is that a kit repair hides the damage for a while, then fails, and then the old filler has to be removed first.

For a hairline mark somewhere you’ll never see, a kit may be enough. For damage in plain view, cracks, holes or rust, or coloured finishes, a professional repair is worth it.

How we price bath repair

Repairs from £95. You’ll know the full cost before you book. We look at:

  • Previous DIY repairs that have to come out
  • How easy the damage is to reach
  • How much damage there is
  • How hard the colour is to match

No two jobs are quite the same, so we price each one individually. What’s damaged, how badly and how easy it is to reach all play a part, and doing several things on one visit costs less than separate visits.

Quotes from your photos

Photographing the damage takes a minute. Try to send:

  • The material, if you know it
  • Details of any past repairs
  • A picture taken from further back
  • A clear, close picture of the problem area

Send us a photo of the damage and one of the entire item, with your CT2 postcode, and we will reply with a fixed price.

Why repair rather than replace?

If the rest of the bath is in good condition, a repair is almost always the better choice. It’s quicker, cheaper and far less disruptive, and the bathroom stays as it is. Where the entire surface is tired, we may suggest re-enamelling instead. Repairs from £95, with every job priced individually. Set against the cost of replacement, a repair is usually a fraction of the price, because nothing has to be taken out, refitted or made good. The quote lists exactly what you are paying for.

What you get with us

Harbledown questions

Can tenants book a repair?

Yes, though it’s best to check with your landlord first. Many landlords are happy for a repair to be arranged.

Can landlords book you?

Yes. We carry out repairs for homeowners, landlords, letting agents, builders and businesses across Kent.

Can you repair a crack in an acrylic bath?

Most of the time. We reinforce the crack from behind, then fill and refinish the front, so we need access under the bath.

Can you redo someone else’s repair?

In most cases. We remove the old repair before doing a new one, so mention it when you send pictures.

When can you do it?

It depends on the time of year and where you are. Send pictures with your postcode and we will reply with the earliest dates.

Do I have to be there?

Yes. We need access to the room while we work, at a time we agree with you.

Is the work guaranteed?

Every repair comes with our one-year guarantee. We’ll explain what it covers when we quote.

Can you repair a hole in a bath?

In most cases. Send us a photo of the hole and one from under the bath if you can.

Keeping it looking good

Good habits make a big difference to how long a repair lasts. Here’s what we suggest:

  • Get a dripping tap fixed promptly
  • Don’t scrub with anything abrasive
  • Ensure an acrylic bath is firm underfoot
  • Clean with warm water and a mild detergent

Give the repair the full curing time we recommend before using the bath. From then on, mild cleaning is all it needs.

If an acrylic bath has a crack, stop showering in it until it’s repaired. Each time it flexes, the crack grows, and water can get through to the floor below.

Work for landlords and builders

We are used to working with agents and managing companies. Just send pictures, the address and how to get access and we will handle the rest.

Hotels, guest houses and holiday lets can’t afford rooms out of action for long, so most of our work is done in a single visit. We will fit around changeovers where we can.

How it works

Arrival times are agreed in advance, so you know when to expect us. Once we’re there, the work takes two to three hours for most chips. We leave the room clean and ready to use once it has cured.

  1. First, we check the damage against your pictures and agree the plan.
  2. Any rust and loose material comes out, and the area is degreased.
  3. The damage is filled in layers and shaped to the curve of the bath.
  4. We tint the finish by hand to match the bath.
  5. The repair is polished to the same gloss as the bath and left to cure.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Mention any earlier repairs or resurfacing
  • Have a window or extractor fan available
  • Plan for the room to be out of bounds to pets and children

How to get a price

A quote takes minutes to ask for: take one close-up and one wider shot of the bath, include your postcode and send them over. What comes back is a fixed price, not a guess.

When a repair is not the answer

We’d rather lose a job than do one that will not last, so these are the limits:

  • A bath that flexes because its feet or cradle have failed (that needs fixing first)
  • A whole bath that is dull or worn, where a full re-enamel is the better fix
  • Acrylic cracks with no access behind them

Send us pictures and we will tell you honestly before you book.

Materials we repair

  • Cast iron enamel
  • Roll-top & freestanding
  • Pressed steel enamel
  • Acrylic
  • Whirlpool & spa baths

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Pressed steel

Steel baths are lighter than cast iron, but have a similar enamel surface. Exposed steel rusts fast, particularly by the plughole, so repair chips early.

Composite and resin

Stone resin and composite baths are heavy and solid. Chips and scratches can be filled and colour-matched, just like other baths.
