How we handle bath repair in Hastings

Repairing baths is what we do most. Chips on the rim, rust around the waste and cracks in acrylic are all fixed without removing the bath, normally in one visit. Our repair technicians work on cast iron enamel, pressed steel enamel and acrylic, and people most frequently call us about chips on the rim or sides and damage beneath the taps.

All our work comes with a one-year guarantee, wherever you are in Somerset.

Can I fix it myself?

It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The risk is that a kit repair hides the damage for a while, then fails, and the old filler has to come out before a proper repair.

If you’ve already tried a DIY fix, that’s fine. We remove the old filler and start again, so it does not stop a professional repair. Just mention it when you send pictures, as it can add time.

The process

On the day, the technician arrives at the agreed time, protects the room with dust sheets and masking and gets started. The job generally takes a few hours. We clean up when we are done and let you know when you can use it again.

  1. We protect the bath and the floor around it.
  2. We clean, key and degrease the damage.
  3. Filler goes in and is sanded flush once it has set.
  4. We match both the colour and the shine.
  5. We clear up and give you the curing time, normally until the next day.

How to prepare

  • Have somewhere for us to park nearby if possible
  • Tell us if there are stairs or a lift
  • Open a window if you can

For landlords and businesses

Builders, developers and site managers book us for snagging repairs, fixing chips and scratches before handover. We’re CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor accredited.

For anyone letting property in or around Hastings, we’ll quote for several properties at once. Just send pictures for each address and we’ll come back with a combined price.

What bath repair costs

Prices start from £95. There are no hourly rates or hidden extras. The price depends on:

  • Where the damage is and how we get to it
  • The size and number of damaged areas
  • How hard the colour is to match
  • How many items we do on one visit

Instead of hourly rates, we fix the price before we start. It depends on the damage, the material and access.

Getting a price from pictures

We price nearly every job from photos. This is what we need:

  • A coin beside the damage so we can judge size
  • What it’s made of, if you know
  • Where you are, by postcode
  • Whether it’s been repaired or coated before

Getting a price is easy: snap the damage close up and then the entire item, send them over with your postcode, and you’ll get a fixed price back. Quotes are free and no obligation.

Aftercare tips

After the repair has cured, a few habits help it last:

  • Keep abrasive pads and gritty cleaners away from the bath
  • If an acrylic bath flexes, have its feet adjusted
  • Protect the bath with a towel when doing jobs nearby
  • A dripping tap stains enamel, so fix it early

Clean with mild, non-abrasive cleaners and avoid dropping heavy items on the repaired area. Deal with new chips early, before rust sets in.

If an acrylic bath has a crack, stop showering in it until it’s repaired. Every use opens the crack a little more, and it can start to leak underneath.

Why repair rather than replace?

Replacing a fitted bath normally involves a plumber, lifting out the old bath, re-tiling and a new panel and disposing of the old one. Repairing it deals only with the damage in a single visit. Repairs from £95, with every job priced individually. We don’t add extras on the day. What we quote from your pictures is what you pay, unless the damage turns out to be different, in which case we talk to you first.

What we can’t put right

Not everything can be repaired, and we’d rather say so up front. We can’t fix:

  • Metal that has corroded all the way through
  • Wear across the entire surface, which needs re-enamelling
  • Leaking fittings, which need a plumber

If in doubt, send photos and we will say what we think before booking.

Materials we repair

  • Cast iron enamel
  • Roll-top & freestanding
  • Acrylic
  • Whirlpool & spa baths
  • Pressed steel enamel

Repairs by material

Acrylic

Acrylic is light and warm to the touch, but it needs firm support underneath. Cracks are strengthened from behind before the front is finished.

Cast iron

Cast iron is heavy and rigid, with a fused enamel surface. Chips can rust if left, but the body of the bath lasts a very long time, so it’s always worth repairing.

Your questions about bath repair in Hastings

Can you repair a chip on a coloured bath?

Yes, we match coloured baths too. The colour is tinted by hand on the day.

Can I add another job to the visit?

Of course, and it normally saves money. Just add the extra items to your pictures and you’ll get one combined price.

I’m a tenant. Can you help?

Yes, though it’s best to check with your landlord first. Many landlords are happy for a repair to be arranged before the end of a tenancy.

What about rust by the waste?

Yes, very often. The rust is cut back to clean metal and sealed before we fill and finish it.

Which areas do you work in?

The whole UK, including all of Somerset. Just include your postcode and we will confirm dates.

Can I get a quote without a visit?

Yes, almost always. Clear photos let us give you a fixed price without visiting.

Do you do work for letting agents?

Yes, often. We quote for multiple addresses and fit around tenancy changeovers.

I tried a repair kit. Can you fix it?

Regularly. The old material comes out, any rust is treated, then we repair it properly.
