Heapey questions

Can you fix rust around the plughole?

Yes, it’s one of the most common repairs we do. We take it back to sound metal, seal it, fill it and match the colour.

What happens once I’ve sent photos?

We review the pictures and send a fixed quote.

Do you cover Heapey?

We do. Repair technicians travel to Heapey from across the region, with no extra charge for travel.

Can you redo someone else’s repair?

Typically, yes. The old repair comes out first, so let us know about it.

Is it OK to have pets in the house?

We ask you to keep children and pets out of the room while we work and until it has cured. The rest of the house is unaffected.

I tried a repair kit. Can you fix it?

Yes, we do this frequently. The old material comes out, any rust is treated, then we repair it properly.

I rent my home. Can I book you?

We are happy to deal with the tenant, landlord or agent. Just make sure the landlord agrees.

Can a cracked acrylic bath be fixed?

Most of the time. The back of the crack is strengthened before the front is filled and refinished, so we need access under the bath.

Bath repair in Heapey, done in place

We repair enamelled steel, cast iron and acrylic baths. The method changes with the material: metal baths need any rust dealt with first, and acrylic cracks need support from behind. Typical jobs include damage done while the bathroom was being fitted and holes from dropped items, across roll-top & freestanding, cast iron enamel and acrylic.

Peace of mind is built in: each job carries a one-year guarantee, and we explain what it covers before you book.

Can I fix it myself?

If you are set on a kit, follow its instructions closely, make sure the area is clean and completely dry, and don’t use it until it has fully cured. If it does not work out, we can still repair it properly.

Kits are cheap and easy to find, but the repairs we redo most often are DIY ones that have discoloured or lifted. Doing it properly first is normally the cheaper route.

What a repair can’t fix

In fairness, some problems need a different fix:

  • Metal that has corroded all the way through
  • A bath worn all over, where resurfacing makes more sense
  • A bath that flexes because its feet or cradle have failed (that needs fixing first)

If in doubt, send photos and we’ll say what we think.

Materials we work on in Heapey

  • Cast iron enamel
  • Pressed steel enamel
  • Whirlpool & spa baths
  • Roll-top & freestanding
  • Acrylic

Looking after it afterwards

Good habits make a big difference to how long a repair lasts:

  • Don’t leave razors or cans standing in the bath
  • Keep abrasive pads and gritty cleaners away from the bath
  • Cover the bath during DIY or decorating
  • Ensure an acrylic bath is firm underfoot

Leave the repair to cure for as long as we say before using the bath. From then on, mild cleaning is all it needs.

Stop using the bath if a crack lets water through until it’s repaired. Leaks under a bath can damage floors and ceilings.

For landlords and businesses

Rental properties take more wear, and replacing items every time a tenant leaves is expensive. A repair between tenancies is a cheaper way to keep the property in good order.

We regularly work with letting and managing agents. Send the address, pictures and access details and we’ll handle the rest.

The process

Visits start with a quick look at the job together, so there are no surprises. Next, we cover and mask everything nearby and the work begins. You can expect it to take a morning or an afternoon.

  1. First, we check the damage against your photos and agree the plan.
  2. Any rust and loose material comes out, and the area is degreased.
  3. We build up the filler in layers, shaping it to the bath.
  4. The colour is tinted by hand until it matches.
  5. The repair is polished to the same gloss as the bath and left to cure.

How to prepare

  • Clear toiletries, mats and anything else from around the area
  • Mention if the room is upstairs or in a flat
  • Tell us about any previous repairs or coatings

Advice

What your bath is made of matters

Pressed steel

Under the enamel of a steel bath is thin metal. Exposed steel rusts quickly, so the metal is treated and sealed before the repair.

Composite and resin

Composite baths are dense and solid, and often freestanding. Chips and scratches can be filled and colour matched, in much the same way.

Why repair rather than replace?

A new bath brings a chain of other jobs: the tiles sitting on the rim tend to break, a new panel is frequently needed, and a plumber has to disconnect and reconnect everything. Repairing the damage avoids all of that. Prices start from £95. Rather than charging by the hour, we fix the price before we start. It depends on the damage, the material and access, and combining items on one visit brings it down.

Heavy toiletries are the biggest single cause of chips, closely followed by shower heads. Fittings cause damage too: water sits around them, and any chip there soon rusts.

Customers usually contact us about:

  • Rust spots around the plughole
  • Chips along the edge of the bath
  • Cracks in an acrylic bath
  • A kit repair that didn’t last

What to look for in a quote

  • Whether they match the colour on site
  • How soon you can use it again
