Bath repair in Highbridge without replacing anything

It pays to repair bath damage while it’s small. Exposed metal on enamelled baths soon rusts, while cracks in acrylic grow each time the bath moves. Repairing it stops the damage getting worse. Common call-outs are for rust by the waste and overflow and scratches you can feel with a fingernail, on pressed steel enamel, whirlpool & spa baths and roll-top & freestanding.

You are covered for a year from the day of the repair. If anything is not right, ring us and we will come back.

Before and after: a chipped, rust-stained bath around the plughole

Different materials, different repairs

Composite and resin

Composite baths are dense and solid. Chips and scratches can be filled and colour matched, just like other baths.

Pressed steel

Steel baths and trays have a thin metal body under the enamel. Once a chip exposes it, rust follows quickly, so the metal is treated and sealed before the repair.

Looking after it afterwards

Once the work has cured, treat it gently:

  • Don’t leave razors or cans standing in the bath
  • Check that an acrylic bath doesn’t move when you stand in it
  • Rinse it down after each bath
  • Have new chips seen to early

Care for the repair the same way as the bath: warm water, washing-up liquid and a soft cloth. Keep scouring pads and gritty cleaners away from it.

Don’t leave a chip on a steel or cast iron bath. Water gets to the metal and rust starts, and a rust spot is a bigger repair than a clean chip.

DIY kit or professional repair?

If you are set on a kit, follow its instructions closely, and don’t use it until it has fully cured. If it fails, we can still put it right.

It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The trouble is that kit repairs frequently look fine at first and then fail, and then the old filler has to be removed first.

What we’re called out for in Highbridge

Dropped items cause the majority of chips, and a lot happen during bathroom refits. Cracks in acrylic have a different cause: poor support underneath, so the bath flexes when it’s full.

If you can see any of these, send us a photo:

  • A cracked acrylic bath
  • A failed DIY repair that is discoloured or lifting
  • Scratches you can feel with a fingernail
  • Chips under the taps

Common questions in Highbridge

Do you repair coloured baths?

Yes, coloured baths are no problem. We tint the finish to your bath on site.

Can you repair something that’s been repaired before?

Usually, yes. We remove the old repair before doing a new one.

Something went through my bath. Can it be fixed?

Often, if there is access underneath. The hole is backed, filled and refinished to match.

What do you need from me?

Some pictures, your postcode and how to reach you. On the day, we only need access to the room.

Is it OK to have pets in the house?

On the day, the room should be kept clear of pets and children, mainly so nothing gets touched before it has cured.

Do you work for landlords and businesses?

We do, regularly. We quote for multiple addresses and fit around tenancy changeovers.

How quickly can you book me in?

We will give you dates with your quote. If it’s urgent, say so and we will do what we can.

Is repairing better than replacing?

Typically, when the rest is in good condition. A repair avoids removal and making good. We will tell you honestly if replacement makes more sense.

Repairing versus replacing in Highbridge

People often assume a cracked or chipped bath has to come out. In most cases it doesn’t: a proper repair gives it years more use, without the cost and upheaval of replacing it. Our bath repair starts from £95. It helps to know what pushes a price up or down: access, material, the extent of the damage and whether we can do several items together. Photos let us give you a fixed figure.

What a repair can’t fix

A repair isn’t right for every job, for example:

  • A whole bath that is dull or worn, where a full re-enamel is the better fix
  • A bath that moves underfoot, until its support is fixed
  • Cracks in acrylic we can’t reach from underneath

If in doubt, send photos and we’ll say what we think before you book.

Surfaces we repair

  • Cast iron enamel
  • Whirlpool & spa baths
  • Acrylic
  • Pressed steel enamel
  • Roll-top & freestanding

Prices and what affects them

Repairs from £95. There are no hourly rates or hidden extras. The price is based on:

  • What kind of damage it is
  • How many areas need work
  • The material and finish
  • Access to the area

Rather than charging by the hour, we fix the price before we start. It depends on the damage, the material and access.

Getting a price from pictures

We price nearly every job from photos. This is what to send:

  • Good light, ideally daylight, without flash glare
  • Something in shot to show the size
  • Any earlier repairs or coatings
  • What it’s made of, if you know

If you’re in Highbridge and want a price, the easiest route is photos: one close up, one from further back, plus your postcode. You will get a fixed quote with dates to choose from.

The process

We begin by going over the job with you, so you know exactly what we’re doing. After that, protection goes down around the work area and we start. It normally takes a few hours.

  1. We start by cleaning the damage and taking out loose enamel and rust.
  2. The chip or crack is filled, then sanded level with the bath.
  3. The colour is mixed on the spot to match your bath.
  4. Finish coats go on, then the repair is polished to blend in.
  5. Once it has cured, normally by the day after, the bath is ready to use.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Keep a parking space free if you can
  • Clear toiletries, mats and anything else from around the area
  • Make sure the room can be ventilated

Getting a price

Email us photos of the damage and a wider shot of the entire item, with your SO50 postcode, and we’ll reply with a fixed quote.
