About our bath repair in Hillend

We repair just the damaged spot and colour-match it to the bath, which is far cheaper than replacing a fitted bath and the tiles around it. Most baths can be used again the following day. Common call-outs are for damage beneath the taps and rusty patches near the plughole, in whirlpool & spa baths, cast iron enamel and roll-top & freestanding.

The work is guaranteed for twelve months. If something isn’t right in that time, we come back and put it right.

Can I fix it myself?

A kit can be fine for a tiny mark out of sight. For damage in plain view, cracks, holes or rust, or coloured finishes, a professional repair is worth it.

It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The risk is that a kit repair hides the damage for a while, then fails, and then the old filler has to be removed first.

Questions from Hillend

Do the materials smell?

There may be a mild smell during the work, which fades afterwards.

I tried a repair kit. Can you fix it?

Yes. We remove the old filler and start again. Mention it when you send photos.

Do you repair coloured baths?

Yes. The colour is mixed on site to suit your bath, including pastel and older colours.

Can you repair several things at once?

Yes. Combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down. Send pictures of everything you’d like done.

How invisible is a bath repair?

On a glossy bath, you will struggle to find it. On older, dull enamel the repair can look glossier than the area around it.

Will it make a mess?

We protect the room with dust sheets and masking first, and tidy up before we leave.

Is repairing better than replacing?

Generally, yes. A repair skips the removal, fitting and redecorating. We’ll be honest if it’s not worth it.

Do I need to be at home?

Someone needs to let us in and show us the job. You do not need to watch us work.

When we’d advise against a repair

We will always be straight with you, so here’s what a repair can’t fix:

  • A whole bath that is dull or worn, where a full re-enamel is the better fix
  • A steel bath rusted through
  • Leaking fittings, which need a plumber

If in doubt, send pictures and we’ll say what we think.

Materials we work on in Hillend

  • Cast iron enamel
  • Roll-top & freestanding
  • Whirlpool & spa baths
  • Pressed steel enamel
  • Acrylic

How to look after the repair

Looking after the surface is easy, and it makes a real difference:

  • Get a dripping tap fixed promptly
  • Avoid scourers, wire wool and gritty cream cleaners
  • Have new chips seen to early
  • Rinse the bath after use, especially in hard water areas

Keep metal objects like razors and cans off the surface, because they can mark the enamel. And fix dripping taps promptly.

If water is getting through a crack, stop using the bath. Leaks under a bath can damage floors and ceilings.

What happens on the day

You do not need to empty the room. Everything we use comes in the van with us, put protection down and start once you are happy with the plan. It typically takes a few hours, depending on the damage, and you can get on with other things while we’re there.

  1. We protect the bath and the floor around it.
  2. The damaged area is cleaned, keyed and degreased, and any rust is treated.
  3. Filler goes in and is sanded flush once it has set.
  4. We match both the colour and the shine.
  5. We tidy up and tell you when the bath can be used, normally the day after.

Preparing for the visit

  • Plan for the room to be out of bounds to pets and children
  • Mention any earlier repairs or resurfacing
  • Let us know which floor the room is on

What your bath is made of matters

Cast iron

A cast iron bath is heavy enough that most people never want to move it. The enamel is the part that wears or chips, and that is what we repair.

Pressed steel

Steel baths are lighter than cast iron, but have a similar enamel surface. Chips rust quickly on steel, particularly by the plughole, so repair chips early.

Do you need bath repair in Hillend?

Dropped items cause the majority of chips, and building work is a common culprit. Acrylic baths crack for a different reason: poor support underneath, so the bath flexes when it’s full.

If you can see any of these, send us a photo:

  • Chips under the taps
  • A hole punched through by something heavy
  • Deep scratches in acrylic
  • Chips on the rim or sides

Choosing a repair company

Prices and what affects them

Repairs from £95. Prices are worked out job by job. The main factors are:

  • Previous DIY repairs that have to come out
  • How many items we do on one visit
  • What the surface is made of
  • How many areas need work

Most people are surprised how affordable a repair is, especially compared with replacing and refitting. Send pictures and we’ll give you the exact figure.

Getting a price from photos

Most quotes are done from pictures alone. To help us price it:

  • A close-up of the damage, in focus
  • Any details about the material
  • Whether it’s been repaired or coated before
  • Daylight if possible, and no flash reflection

Getting a quote takes a couple of minutes: photograph the damage, then the whole bath, add your postcode and send them to us. What comes back is a fixed price, not a guess.

Should you replace it?

Cast iron baths in particular are worth repairing: getting one out, particularly from an upstairs bathroom, is a big job, and a like-for-like replacement can be expensive. A repair keeps it in place. Prices start from £95. What it costs depends on the type and amount of damage, what it’s made of and how many items we do on one visit. You get a fixed quote from your pictures, so you know the cost before you book.
