Bath Repair across Angus

About bath repair in Angus

Whether your bath is steel, cast iron or acrylic, we can repair it. Each material is repaired a little differently: metal baths need any rust dealt with first, and acrylic cracks need support from behind. We work on roll-top & freestanding, cast iron enamel and acrylic, and people most often call us about impact holes in acrylic and chips on the rim or sides.

Once we’re through the door, the aim is to do the job without disturbing the rest of your home. We mask off everything nearby, the work takes two to three hours for most chips, depending on what we find, and we finish by cleaning up and talking you through the result.

  1. We clean the area and remove any loose enamel or rust.
  2. Next we fill the damage and sand it smooth and level.
  3. We mix the colour on the day to match your bath’s exact shade.
  4. Finish coats go on, then the repair is polished to blend in.
  5. The repair is left to cure, and most baths can be used the day after.

Repair or replace?

Swapping a damaged bath for a new one normally involves a plumber, lifting out the old bath, making good the tiles and panel and getting rid of the old bath. Repairing it fixes just the damaged area in one visit.

What your quote should include

  • Whether there are any call-out or travel charges
  • What happens if the damage is worse than the pictures show
  • Whether the price is fixed and includes VAT
  • What preparation is included

What we’re called out for in Angus

Glass and heavy bottles cause more chips than anything else. Fittings cause damage too: water sits around them, and any chip there soon rusts.

Send us a photo if you notice any of these:

  • Snagging damage from a refit
  • Rusty patches near the plughole
  • A hole punched through by something heavy
  • Scuffs and scratches in the surface

Looking after it afterwards

A little care keeps the finish looking good. We recommend:

  • A dripping tap stains enamel, so fix it early
  • Put a towel in the bath if you are working above it
  • Keep metal cans and razors off the surface
  • Have new chips seen to early

Treat the repaired area like the rest of the bath: warm water, washing-up liquid and a soft cloth. Avoid scourers and gritty cream cleaners.

Rust under enamel spreads surprisingly quickly. Left for months, a small chip can grow into a large rust patch, so it pays to deal with it early.

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are thick and very strong, finished with fired enamel. A chip down to the iron can rust, but the body of the bath lasts a very long time, which makes it well worth repairing.

Pressed steel

Steel baths are lighter than cast iron, but have a similar enamel surface. Exposed steel rusts fast, particularly by the plughole, so repair chips early.

Questions from Angus

Is the work guaranteed?

Yes: twelve months. If anything goes wrong with the repair within the year, we return to fix it.

Is repairing better than replacing?

Generally, yes. A repair skips the removal, fitting and redecorating. If it isn’t worth repairing, we will tell you.

Can rust on a bath be repaired?

Yes. We take out the rust and any loose enamel, fill the area, then colour-match the finish.

Will I be able to see the repair?

On a bath in good condition, a colour matched repair is very hard to spot. On worn enamel, it can look shinier than the rest.

Will the repair last?

Yes, if it’s prepared properly and the bath is sound. It’s covered by our one-year guarantee.

Will you leave a mess?

Very little mess: we sheet and mask everything nearby, and we leave the room clean.

What happens next?

We look at the pictures and reply with a fixed quote and some dates. If anything’s unclear, we’ll ask for another photo.
