Bath repair in Hingham without replacing anything

Most bath damage, from chips and cracks to rust spots and holes, is repaired in place. Nothing is unplumbed, the tiles aren’t touched, and the repaired area is colour-matched so it blends in. Typical jobs include scratches you can feel with a fingernail and a kit repair that didn’t last, on whirlpool & spa baths, roll-top & freestanding and cast iron enamel.

We guarantee the work for a year. If there’s a problem with the repair within the year, we return and sort it.

Aftercare tips

A little care keeps the finish looking good. Our advice:

  • Get a dripping tap fixed promptly
  • Give the bath a quick rinse after use
  • Get any new chip repaired before it rusts
  • Don’t leave razors or cans standing in the bath

For the first few days, keep heavy bottles off the repaired spot. After that, clean it as you would the rest of the bath, avoiding abrasives.

Don’t leave a chip on a steel or cast iron bath. Once water reaches the metal, rust begins, turning a quick repair into a bigger one.

Hingham questions

What happens if you find more damage?

If we find something the photos didn’t show, we explain it first. You decide whether to go ahead.

Is a bath repair durable?

It should, as long as the bath is firm and the area was prepared well. It carries our one-year guarantee.

Can you repair several things at once?

Yes. Doing several items on one visit generally costs less than separate visits. Send photos of everything you’d like done.

Do you hold any accreditations?

We’re accredited with CHAS, Constructionline, SafeContractor, SMAS Worksafe and Builder’s Profile.

I rent my home. Can I book you?

We can work for tenants, landlords or agents. Get your landlord’s agreement first.

Will the repair show?

On a bath in good condition, a colour matched repair is very hard to spot. On worn enamel, it can look shinier than the rest.

What happens after I send pictures?

You’ll get a fixed quote back. There’s no obligation to book.

Something went through my bath. Can it be fixed?

Typically. Photos of the hole and the underside help us check.

Common problems we fix in Hingham

Damage during fitting is very common. Tradespeople drop tools and tiles into the bath, often before anyone notices. Snagging repairs like these are a regular job for us.

People generally call us when they notice something like this:

  • Hairline or through cracks in acrylic
  • A chipped rim or side
  • Holes from dropped items
  • Damage beneath the taps

The process

There’s not much you need to do on the day. Let us in and show us the room, and we will get on with it. The job generally runs to a few hours, depending on the damage, including clearing up.

  1. We start by cleaning the damage and taking out loose enamel and rust.
  2. We fill the damage and sand it flush with the surrounding surface.
  3. We mix the colour on the day to match your bath’s exact shade.
  4. Finish coats go on, then the repair is polished to blend in.
  5. We leave it to cure; you can usually use the bath the following day.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Keep pets and children out of the room while we work
  • Mention if the room is upstairs or in a flat
  • Point us to the nearest place to park

Ask for a price

We price from pictures so you do not have to wait in for a survey. Use the quote form, or ring 0345 017 0787 to talk it through.

Advice

Why repair rather than replace?

For damage in one or two places, a repair is the obvious choice. It costs far less than a new bath plus fitting, it’s done in one visit, and the bathroom stays exactly as it is. Repairs from £95, with every job priced individually. There are no surprise extras on the day. What we quote from your pictures is what you pay, and if the damage turns out to be different, we discuss it before starting.

Why choose Surface Doctor in Hingham

  • One visit for most repairs
  • Honest advice, even when it means no job
  • No need to remove anything
  • Rooms protected and left tidy

DIY kit or professional repair?

What a professional repair adds is preparation, colour matching and finishing. We prepare the area properly, mix the colour on site and polish the finish to match, then guarantee it for a year.

For a hairline mark somewhere you’ll never see, a kit may be enough. For damage in plain view, cracks, holes or rust, or coloured finishes, it’s worth having it done properly.

What affects the price in Hingham

Repairs from £95. We charge the same across the UK, including Hingham. What changes the price is:

  • The type of damage
  • The size and number of damaged areas
  • The material
  • How many items we do on one visit

We charge the same wherever you are, so there is no premium for Hingham. What changes the price is the job itself: how much damage, what it’s made of and how many items.

Getting a price from photos

Good pictures mean an accurate price. Here’s what helps:

  • A coin beside the damage so we can judge size
  • A wider photo showing the whole bath
  • Daylight if possible, and no flash reflection
  • Your postcode, so we can check dates

For most jobs, photos are all we need to give you a price. Tell us what happened and where you are, and we will send back a fixed quote and some dates.

Honest limits

We would rather lose a job than do one that won’t last, so here’s what a repair cannot put right:

  • A whole bath that is dull or worn, where a full re-enamel is the better fix
  • Leaks from the waste or overflow fittings (a plumber’s job)
  • Cracks in parts of an acrylic bath we can’t get to from below

Not sure? Send pictures and we’ll give you a straight answer.

Surfaces we repair

  • Acrylic
  • Cast iron enamel
  • Roll-top & freestanding
  • Pressed steel enamel
  • Whirlpool & spa baths

Repairs by material

Cast iron

Cast iron is heavy and rigid, finished with fired enamel. A chip down to the iron can rust, but the body of the bath lasts a very long time, so it’s always worth repairing.

Acrylic

Acrylic baths are moulded sheet reinforced underneath. They do not rust, but they can crack, scratch or be holed, and a crack only stays repaired if it’s supported underneath.
