Trusted bath repair in Holland Arms

Bath repair in Holland Arms, done in place

Bath repair is our most common job. A chip by the taps, a crack in the base and a rust spot by the plughole are all fixed without removing the bath, normally in a single visit. We regularly repair acrylic, whirlpool & spa baths and cast iron enamel, and common reasons people get in touch are chips under the taps and cracks in an acrylic bath.

We guarantee the work for a year. If there’s a problem with the repair within the year, we return and sort it.

Should I try a DIY kit first?

What a professional repair adds is preparation, colour matching and finishing. We prepare the area properly, mix the colour on site and polish the finish to match, then guarantee it for a year.

You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can make a small mark look better. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler often lifts.

How we price bath repair

Repairs from £95. We don’t charge extra for travel to Holland Arms. The price comes down to:

  • Unusual colours or finishes
  • Where the damage is and how we get to it
  • What kind of damage it is
  • Previous DIY repairs that have to come out

There are no surprise extras on the day. What we quote from your photos is what you pay, unless the damage turns out to be different, in which case we talk to you first.

Send pictures for a quote

Photographing the damage takes a minute. Please include:

  • Daylight if possible, and no flash reflection
  • Where you are, by postcode
  • A clear, close picture of the problem area
  • What it’s made of, if you know

The quickest way to a price is to send a couple of photos through our quote form or call us. We will say right away whether it can be repaired.

Work for landlords and builders

Hotels, guest houses and holiday lets cannot afford rooms out of action for long, so we keep visits short and tidy. We will fit around changeovers where we can.

Builders use us to fix snagging damage before handover, so there’s no need to replace a damaged item at the last minute. Several plots can be done in one visit to keep costs down.

Looking after it afterwards

Once the work has cured, treat it gently:

  • Avoid scourers, wire wool and gritty cream cleaners
  • Don’t leave a fresh chip for long
  • Clean with warm water and a mild detergent
  • Cover the bath during DIY or decorating

There is nothing special to do after a repair, beyond gentle cleaning. Avoid bleach-based and gritty cleaners and give it a rinse after each bath.

Until we visit, a strip of waterproof tape over the damage helps, so water cannot get in. Remove it before the repair.

When a repair isn’t the answer

A few problems are outside what a surface repair can do:

  • Wear across the whole surface, which needs re-enamelling
  • Rust that has eaten right through a steel bath
  • Acrylic cracks with no access behind them

If in doubt, send pictures and we’ll say what we think.

Materials we repair

  • Whirlpool & spa baths
  • Cast iron enamel
  • Pressed steel enamel
  • Roll-top & freestanding
  • Acrylic

Repairing versus replacing in Holland Arms

Replacing a fitted bath typically means a plumber, removing the old bath, re-tiling and a new panel and disposing of the old one. Repairing it deals only with the damage in one visit. Repairs from £95, with every job priced individually. It helps to know what pushes a price up or down: access, material, the extent of the damage and whether we can do several items together. Send photos and you’ll get a fixed figure.

Why Holland Arms clients choose us

Your questions about bath repair in Holland Arms

How invisible is a bath repair?

On a bath in good condition, a colour matched repair is very hard to spot. On older, dull enamel the repair can look glossier than the area around it.

Do I need to be at home?

We need someone to let us in. You do not need to watch us work.

How long before I can use the bath?

Normally by the following day, though it depends on what we’ve done.

Are you accredited?

We hold CHAS, Constructionline, SafeContractor, SMAS Worksafe and Builder’s Profile accreditations.

Can rust on a bath be repaired?

Yes, very frequently. The rust is cut back to clean metal and sealed before we fill and finish it.

Can you repair a crack in an acrylic bath?

Often, yes, if we can reach the underside to reinforce it. Take off the bath panel and check, or send us a picture.

What happens if you find more damage?

We stop, show you and agree any change before carrying on. Nothing extra is done without your say-so.

Is it worth repairing rather than replacing?

Generally, if the item is otherwise sound. A repair avoids removal and making good. If replacing would be better, we’ll say so.

How it works

You do not need to empty the room. Everything we use comes in the van with us, put protection down and start once you’re happy with the plan. Most jobs take two to three hours for most chips, and you are welcome to carry on with your day while we work.

  1. First, we check the damage against your photos and agree the plan.
  2. Loose enamel, rust and dirt are removed so the repair can bond.
  3. The damage is filled in layers and shaped to the curve of the bath.
  4. We tint the finish by hand to match the bath.
  5. The repair is polished to the same gloss as the bath and left to cure.

Preparing for the visit

  • Keep a parking space free if you can
  • Clear toiletries, mats and anything else from around the area
  • Tell us if there are stairs or a lift

What we’re called out for in Holland Arms

Dropped items cause the majority of chips, and a lot happen during bathroom refits. Acrylic baths crack for a different reason: poor support underneath, so the bath flexes when it’s full.

People generally call us after spotting something like this:

  • Deep scratches in acrylic
  • A failed DIY repair that’s discoloured or lifting
  • Snagging damage from a refit
  • A cracked acrylic bath
