How we handle bath repair in Insworke

Most bath damage, from chips and cracks to rust spots and holes, can be repaired with the bath left exactly where it is. There is no plumbing to disconnect, the tiles aren’t touched, and the finish is matched to the rest of the bath. Whether it’s a kit repair that didn’t last and snagging damage from a refit, we can generally put it right, on roll-top & freestanding, pressed steel enamel and whirlpool & spa baths alike.

Your repair is guaranteed for a year, as with every job we do.

Your questions about bath repair in Insworke

Are there extra charges for Insworke?

We don’t add a call-out fee. Your fixed price includes everything.

Can you fix rust around the plughole?

Yes, it’s one of the most common repairs we do. The rust is cut back to clean metal and sealed before we fill and finish it.

When can you do it?

It depends on the time of year and where you are. We will offer you dates when we send your quote.

What does bath repair cost?

Repairs from £95. Because every job differs, we price from pictures. You know the full cost before anything is booked.

I rent my home. Can I book you?

Yes, though it’s best to check with your landlord first. Landlords are often glad to have it sorted before the end of a tenancy.

How invisible is a bath repair?

On a bath in good condition, a colour matched repair is very hard to spot. On worn enamel, it can look shinier than the rest.

Is a cracked acrylic bath repairable?

Most of the time. The back of the crack is strengthened before the front is filled and refinished, so we need access under the bath.

When can I have a bath again?

Normally by the following day, depending on the repair.

Aftercare tips

Simple care helps the repair last. Our advice:

  • If an acrylic bath flexes, have its feet adjusted
  • Get any new chip repaired before it rusts
  • Protect the bath with a towel when doing jobs nearby
  • Stick to mild cleaners and a soft cloth

Leave the repair to cure for as long as we say before running a bath. After that, gentle cleaning keeps it looking good.

Rust spreads under enamel faster than most people expect. A chip the size of a fingernail can become a much larger patch if it’s left for months, so it pays to deal with it early.

Work for landlords and builders

For developers and builders, we fix damage before handover, saving last-minute replacements. We can visit several plots in one trip to keep costs down.

For anyone letting property in or around Insworke, we can repair and quote for several addresses together. Just send pictures for each address and we will come back with a combined price.

When to call us in Insworke

Acrylic baths that crack nearly always have a support problem. Legs that aren’t adjusted, a missing cradle or a soft floor let the base flex until it cracks.

You may need us if you’ve spotted any of these:

  • A cracked acrylic bath
  • Impact holes in acrylic
  • Chips under the taps
  • Scratches you can feel with a fingernail

Questions to ask before you book

  • When it can be used again
  • How to care for the finish
  • Is the price fixed, and does it include VAT?
  • How the room is protected while they work

What we cannot put right

Some problems need a builder, plumber or fitter rather than us:

  • Acrylic cracks with no access behind them
  • A whole bath that’s dull or worn, where a full re-enamel is the better fix
  • Rust that has eaten right through a steel bath

Not sure? Send photos and we will give you a straight answer.

Surfaces we repair

  • Whirlpool & spa baths
  • Cast iron enamel
  • Roll-top & freestanding
  • Acrylic
  • Pressed steel enamel

How the visit works

Nothing needs to be moved out of the room. We bring everything we need with us, put protection down and start once you are happy with the plan. It generally takes two to three hours for most chips, and you can get on with other things while we are there.

  1. We start by cleaning the damage and taking out loose enamel and rust.
  2. Next we fill the damage and sand it smooth and level.
  3. We tint the finish on the day to suit your bath’s shade of white or colour.
  4. We apply the finish coats and polish the repair so it blends in.
  5. The repair is left to cure, and most baths can be used the next day.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Mention if the room is upstairs or in a flat
  • Clear the area around the damage
  • Tell us about parking, stairs or access

Advice

Different materials, different repairs

Acrylic

Acrylic feels warm and is light, but it needs firm support underneath. Cracks are strengthened from behind before the front is finished.

Cast iron

Cast iron is heavy and rigid, finished with fired enamel. A chip down to the iron can rust, but the body of the bath lasts a very long time, so it’s always worth repairing.

Can I fix it myself?

It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The risk is that a kit repair hides the damage for a while, then fails, and the old filler has to come out before a proper repair.

You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can make a small mark look better. The trouble is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler frequently lifts.

Repairing versus replacing in Insworke

Many people think a damaged bath means a new one. In most cases it doesn’t: a proper repair gives it years more use, and costs far less than the disruption of a replacement. Prices start from £95. We charge the same wherever you are, so there is no premium for Insworke. What changes the price is the job itself: the material, the amount of damage and how many items.
