When to call us in Jack's Mere
Most bath damage comes from something dropped: a shampoo bottle, a shower head, a tile or a tool during a refit. On steel and cast iron baths, a chip that reaches the metal lets water in, and rust follows.
You may need us if you’ve spotted any of these:
- A chipped rim or side
- Rust spots around the plughole
- Hairline or through cracks in acrylic
- A hole punched through by something heavy

How we handle bath repair in Jack's Mere
Small damage on a bath is worth repairing early. On steel and cast iron, exposed metal starts to rust, and on acrylic, a crack keeps spreading while the bath flexes. Repairing it stops the damage getting worse. Common call-outs are for impact holes in acrylic and damage beneath the taps, in roll-top & freestanding, pressed steel enamel and cast iron enamel.
All our work comes with a one-year guarantee.

What your bath is made of matters
Composite and resin
Stone resin and composite baths are heavy and solid. Chips and scratches can be filled and colour-matched, in much the same way.
Cast iron
A cast iron bath is heavy enough that most people never want to move it. The enamel is the part that wears or chips, and that is the part we put right.
Keeping it looking good
A little care keeps the finish looking good. We recommend:
- Use a soft cloth and washing-up liquid for everyday cleaning
- Don’t leave razors or cans standing in the bath
- Ensure an acrylic bath is firm underfoot
- Don’t leave a fresh chip for long
There’s nothing special to do after a repair, beyond gentle cleaning. Avoid bleach-based and gritty cleaners and give it a rinse after each bath.
Avoid standing in a cracked acrylic bath until it’s fixed. Each time it flexes, the crack grows, and water can get through to the floor below.

What else we do in Jack's Mere
Jack's Mere: your questions answered
Can you redo someone else’s repair?
Yes, we often do. It can add a little time, which we include in the quote.
Can you fix rust around the plughole?
Yes. We remove the rust and loose enamel, seal and fill the area, then colour-match the finish.
How long before I can use the bath?
Typically within a day, depending on the repair.
Is a bath repair durable?
It should, as long as the bath is firm and the area was prepared well. It’s covered by our one-year guarantee.
Can you repair a crack in an acrylic bath?
In most cases. We reinforce the crack from behind, then fill and refinish the front, so access behind the panel is important.
Is my repair covered?
All our work carries a one-year guarantee. Ask us what it covers when you get your quote.
Can you repair several things at once?
Yes, and it’s often cheaper. Just add the extra items to your photos and you will get one combined price.
Do you cover the whole of Lancashire?
Across the UK, and that includes Jack's Mere. Prices do not change with location.
How the visit works
Once we’re through the door, we keep the work contained to the one room. Surfaces nearby are masked off, the job takes a few hours, and we finish with a tidy-up and a look at the finished work together.
- We protect the bath and the floor around it.
- We clean, key and degrease the damage, and any rust is treated.
- Filler goes in and is sanded flush once it has set.
- Colour and gloss are matched to the surrounding surface.
- We tidy up and tell you when the bath can be used, usually the day after.
Getting ready for the visit
- Avoid using the area for a few hours before we arrive
- Mention if the room is upstairs or in a flat
- Mention any earlier repairs or resurfacing
Ask for a price
Email us pictures of the damage and one of the entire item, with your L40 postcode, and we will come back with a fixed quote.
Advice
DIY repairs versus a professional job
DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can tidy up a tiny mark. The trouble is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler frequently lifts.
If you do try a kit, read the instructions carefully, ensure the area is clean and completely dry, and give it the full curing time. If it fails, we can still put it right.
What bath repair costs
Repairs from £95. There is no area surcharge for Jack's Mere. The price reflects:
- The size and number of damaged areas
- Unusual colours or finishes
- Previous DIY repairs that have to come out
- What the surface is made of
What it costs depends on how much damage there is and what kind, the material and how many items we do on one visit. We give a fixed quote from your photos, so you know the cost before booking.
How to get a fixed quote
Before you send pictures, a few simple things make all the difference:
- Natural light rather than flash
- Any earlier repairs or coatings
- A picture taken from further back
- A clear, close picture of the problem area
For most jobs, photos are all we need to give you a price. Add a line about what happened and your postcode, and we will send back a fixed quote and some dates.
Repair or replace: which is better?
People frequently assume a cracked or chipped bath has to come out. In most cases it doesn’t: a repair keeps the bath in service for years, and costs far less than the disruption of a replacement. Prices start from £95. Set against the cost of replacement, repairing usually costs far less, because nothing has to be taken out, refitted or made good. The quote lists exactly what you’re paying for.

When a repair is not the answer
A repair is not always the answer, and we will tell you before we start. Repairs won’t solve:
- Wear across the whole surface, which needs re-enamelling
- Cracks in parts of an acrylic bath we can’t get to from below
- Metal that has corroded all the way through
If in doubt, send photos and we’ll say what we think.
