Bath repair near Keir Mill

Bath repair at your home in Keir Mill

It pays to repair bath damage while it’s small. Exposed metal on enamelled baths soon rusts, and on acrylic, a crack keeps spreading while the bath flexes. A repair stops both. Common call-outs are for rust spots around the plughole and a failed DIY repair that’s discoloured or lifting, in roll-top & freestanding, pressed steel enamel and cast iron enamel.

Every repair is covered by our one-year guarantee, wherever you are in Dumfries and Galloway.

The process

From the moment we arrive, the aim is to do the job without disturbing the rest of your home. Surfaces nearby are masked off, the job takes two to three hours for most chips, and we finish with a tidy-up and a look at the finished work together.

  1. Dust sheets and masking go down around the bath.
  2. We clean, key and degrease the damage, and any rust is treated.
  3. Filler goes in and is sanded flush once it has set.
  4. We match both the colour and the shine.
  5. We clear up and give you the curing time, normally until the next day.

Before we arrive

  • Have a window or extractor fan available
  • Keep children and pets away from the room on the day
  • Move bottles, mats and clutter away from the area

Repairing versus replacing in Keir Mill

A repair makes sense whenever the damage is localised. It costs far less than a new bath plus fitting, it’s done in one visit, and nothing else in the room changes. Our bath repair starts from £95. Set against the cost of replacement, a repair is generally a fraction of the price, because nothing has to be taken out, refitted or made good. The quote lists exactly what you’re paying for.

Why us?

  • One price list for the entire UK
  • Everything repaired in place
  • We leave the room as we found it
  • Colour-matched on site

Take a look at our prices page and guide to resurfacing and replacement costs.

Should I try a DIY kit first?

You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can make a small mark look better. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler often lifts.

It’s tempting to reach for a kit, but the repairs we redo most often are DIY ones that have discoloured or lifted. Getting it right first time is usually cheaper.

How we price bath repair

Prices start from £95. Prices are worked out job by job. What matters most is:

  • Doing more than one item at once
  • How easy the damage is to reach
  • Previous DIY repairs that have to come out
  • Unusual colours or finishes

We don’t add extras on the day. The price we quote from your photos is the price you pay, unless the damage turns out to be different, in which case we talk to you first.

Quotes from your pictures

You can generally get a fixed quote without us visiting. To make it quick:

  • A picture taken from further back
  • A clear, close picture of the problem area
  • What it’s made of, if you know
  • Details of any past repairs

Ring 0345 017 0787, or send us photos through the quote form. With one close-up and one wider picture, we can price the job.

Looking after it afterwards

Simple care helps the repair last. Our advice:

  • Rinse it down after each bath
  • Stick to mild cleaners and a soft cloth
  • Avoid scourers, wire wool and gritty cream cleaners
  • Get any new chip repaired before it rusts

In the first few days, avoid putting weight or bottles on the repair. After that, normal gentle cleaning is fine, avoiding abrasives.

Rust under enamel spreads surprisingly quickly. A chip the size of a fingernail can become a much larger patch if it’s left for months, so it pays to deal with it early.

When we would advise against a repair

Before you book, it’s worth knowing the limits too:

  • A whole bath that’s dull or worn, where a full re-enamel is the better fix
  • A bath that moves underfoot, until its support is fixed
  • Acrylic cracks with no access behind them

Not sure? Send photos and we will give you a straight answer.

Different materials, different repairs

Pressed steel

Steel baths and trays have a thin metal body under the enamel. Exposed steel rusts quickly, so the metal is treated and sealed before the repair.

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are so heavy that repairing in place makes obvious sense. Only the enamel surface wears or chips, and that is the part we put right.
