Landlord and trade work in Lately Common

Housing associations and facilities teams use us for planned and reactive repairs. A repair avoids taking out and refitting, which matters when someone is living in the home.

We are used to working with agents and managing companies. Just send pictures, the address and how to get access and we will arrange it.

What bath repair costs

Prices start from £95. We give every job a fixed price from photos. This is what makes a difference:

  • How hard the colour is to match
  • The material and finish
  • Where the damage is and how we get to it
  • Previous DIY repairs that have to come out

Every job is a little different, so each one is priced on its own. What’s damaged, how badly and how easy it is to reach all make a difference, and combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down.

Getting a price from pictures

Good photos mean an accurate price. Here’s what we find most useful:

  • A picture taken from further back
  • A coin beside the damage so we can judge size
  • Any earlier repairs or coatings
  • Daylight if possible, and no flash reflection

You do not need a survey visit. Photos are enough for us to price nearly every job: we need a close-up, a wider picture and your postcode, and we will come back to you with a fixed figure.

When we would advise against a repair

In fairness, some problems need a different fix:

  • Metal that has corroded all the way through
  • Leaking fittings, which need a plumber
  • Cracks in acrylic we cannot reach from underneath

Send us pictures and we will tell you honestly before you book.

Materials we repair

  • Pressed steel enamel
  • Cast iron enamel
  • Whirlpool & spa baths
  • Roll-top & freestanding
  • Acrylic

Looking after it afterwards

So the finish stays in good condition:

  • Store metal items away from the bath
  • Ensure an acrylic bath is firm underfoot
  • Cover the bath during DIY or decorating
  • Use a soft cloth and washing-up liquid for everyday cleaning

Treat the repaired area like the rest of the bath: a soft cloth and washing-up liquid is all it needs. Keep scouring pads and gritty cleaners away from it.

Don’t leave a chip on a steel or cast iron bath. Water gets to the metal and rust starts, and a rust spot is a bigger repair than a clean chip.

Repairing versus replacing in Lately Common

If the rest of the bath is in good condition, a repair is almost always the better choice. It’s quicker, cheaper and far less disruptive, and the bathroom stays as it is. Where the entire surface is tired, we may suggest re-enamelling instead. Repairs from £95, with every job priced individually. A repair is priced on what needs doing, not your postcode. The full price is agreed before you book, with nothing added on the day.

Why Lately Common clients choose us

Should I try a DIY kit first?

We understand the appeal of fixing it yourself. The trouble is that kit repairs often look fine at first and then fail, and then the old filler has to be removed first.

If you’ve already tried a DIY fix, that’s fine. We take the old repair out and do it properly, so it will not stop us repairing it. It does add a little time, so tell us about it when you send photos.

How the visit works

Your technician turns up when we said we would and looks over the damage before anything else. The floor and nearby surfaces are covered before we open a single tin. The work itself takes a few hours, depending on the damage, and the room is left clean and tidy.

  1. We start by cleaning the damage and taking out loose enamel and rust.
  2. Next we fill the damage and sand it smooth and level.
  3. We tint the finish on the day to suit your bath’s shade of white or colour.
  4. We build up the finish and polish it into the surrounding enamel.
  5. We leave it to cure; you can generally use the bath the next day.

Preparing for the visit

  • Point us to the nearest place to park
  • Keep children and pets away from the room on the day
  • Clear the area around the damage

Common questions in Lately Common

What does bath repair cost?

Prices start from £95. Because every job differs, we price from pictures. You will get a fixed figure before you book.

What happens once I’ve sent photos?

We look at the photos and reply with a fixed price and some dates. If we need another angle, we’ll ask.

Can pets and children be at home?

Yes, as long as they stay out of the room we’re working in. We will let you know when it’s safe to use again.

Is there any odour?

Some materials have a smell while they’re applied, so we ventilate the room. It clears as the materials cure.

Will it make a mess?

We protect the room with dust sheets and masking first, and tidy up before we leave.

When can you do it?

That depends on our diary for your area. We’ll offer you dates when we send your quote.

How long does the repair take to cure?

Normally within a day, depending on the repair.

Can you repair a hole in a bath?

Generally, yes, if we can reach behind it. We back the hole, fill it and refinish the surface.

Repairs by material

Acrylic

Acrylic baths are moulded sheet reinforced underneath. They don’t rust, but they can crack, scratch or be holed, and a crack only stays repaired if it’s supported underneath.

Pressed steel

Steel baths are lighter than cast iron, but have a similar enamel surface. Exposed steel rusts fast, particularly by the plughole, so early repairs matter.
