How we handle bath repair in Marsworth

Repairing baths is what we do most. A chip by the taps, a crack in the base and a rust spot by the plughole are all fixed without removing the bath, normally in a single visit. Common call-outs are for scratches you can feel with a fingernail and impact holes in acrylic, in pressed steel enamel, whirlpool & spa baths and roll-top & freestanding.

Every repair comes with our one-year guarantee.

Marsworth: your questions answered

How long before I can use the bath?

Normally by the following day, depending on the repair.

Can rust on a bath be repaired?

Yes. We remove the rust and loose enamel, seal and fill the area, then colour-match the finish.

Do you cover the whole of Hertfordshire?

All of Hertfordshire, and the rest of the UK. There is no extra charge for travel.

How soon can you come?

We’ll give you dates with your quote. Tell us if you need it done quickly.

Is it OK to have pets in the house?

Keep pets and children away from the work area on the day, so the repair isn’t disturbed while it cures.

What do you need from me?

Some pictures, your postcode and how to reach you. On the day, access to the room.

Are you accredited?

We’re accredited with CHAS, Constructionline, SafeContractor, SMAS Worksafe and Builder’s Profile.

Does someone need to be in?

We need someone to let us in. After that, you can carry on with your day.

How to look after the repair

Simple care helps the repair last. We recommend:

  • A dripping tap stains enamel, so fix it early
  • Cover the bath during DIY or decorating
  • Do not leave razors or cans standing in the bath
  • Give the bath a quick rinse after use

For the first few days, keep heavy bottles off the repaired spot. After that, clean it as you would the rest of the bath, avoiding abrasives.

Avoid standing in a cracked acrylic bath until it’s fixed. Each time it flexes, the crack grows, and it can start to leak underneath.

What we’re called out for in Marsworth

Most bath damage comes from something dropped: a shampoo bottle, a shower head, a tile or a tool during a refit. On steel and cast iron baths, any chip down to the metal lets water in, and rust follows.

The things customers generally mention when they call include:

  • Snagging damage from a refit
  • An old repair that has yellowed or come loose
  • Rust by the waste and overflow
  • Damage beneath the taps

Questions to ask before you book

  • How long it needs to cure
  • What happens if they find more damage
  • Who turns up on the day
  • Whether cleaning and preparation are in the price

Our hiring checklist

Repairing versus replacing in Marsworth

Replacing a fitted bath normally involves a plumber, lifting out the old bath, making good the tiles and panel and getting rid of the old bath. Repairing it fixes just the damaged area in one visit. Repairs from £95, with every job priced individually. Instead of hourly rates, we fix the price before we start. It depends on the damage, the material and access, and combining items on one visit brings it down.

Why Marsworth clients choose us

  • Nothing taken out or refitted
  • A year’s guarantee on all work
  • Colours mixed by hand to suit your surface
  • Most jobs done in one visit

DIY kit or professional repair?

It’s tempting to reach for a kit, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Getting it right first time is generally cheaper.

If you do try a kit, read the instructions carefully, make sure the area is clean and completely dry, and don’t use it until it has fully cured. If it fails, we can still put it right.

What bath repair costs

Repairs from £95. Each job gets its own fixed quote. These are the things that affect it:

  • How much damage there is
  • Where the damage is and how we get to it
  • The material and finish
  • Whether we combine several jobs

No two jobs are quite the same, so each one is priced on its own. The size and type of damage, the material and access all play a part, and combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down.

Quotes from your pictures

Most quotes are done from pictures alone. To make it quick:

  • One picture of the entire bath
  • One sharp close-up of the damage
  • Something in shot to show the size
  • Natural light rather than flash

No survey visit is needed: we price from photos. Send them through the quote form, or call 0345 017 0787 if you’d rather talk it through.

How it works

Expect a friendly, tidy visit. We agree the arrival time in advance, cover and mask the work area, then carry out the work, which generally takes two to three hours for most chips. If anything looks different from your photos, we’ll talk to you before going ahead.

  1. We start by looking at the damage and confirming the plan with you.
  2. Any rust and loose material comes out, and the area is degreased.
  3. The damage is filled in layers and shaped to the curve of the bath.
  4. We tint the finish by hand to match the bath.
  5. Finally, it’s polished to match the shine and left to cure.

How to prepare

  • Mention any earlier repairs or resurfacing
  • Point us to the nearest place to park
  • Let the surface dry out before the visit

How to get a price

You don’t need a survey visit. Nearly every job can be priced from pictures: we need a close-up, a wider picture and your postcode, and we will come back to you with a fixed figure.

Advice

Honest limits

We won’t take on work that will not last, so these are the limits:

  • Cracks in acrylic we can’t reach from underneath
  • Water coming from the waste or taps rather than the bath
  • Flexing caused by a failed cradle or loose feet

If in doubt, send photos and we will say what we think.

What we work on

  • Pressed steel enamel
  • Roll-top & freestanding
  • Acrylic
  • Cast iron enamel
  • Whirlpool & spa baths

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are so heavy that repairing in place makes obvious sense. Only the enamel surface wears or chips, and that’s what we repair.

Acrylic

Acrylic baths are moulded sheet reinforced underneath. They don’t rust, but they can crack, scratch or be holed, and a crack only stays repaired if it’s supported underneath.
