FAQs for Merley

Is a bath repair durable?

Done properly, a repair lasts for years, and it’s guaranteed for a year. Gentle cleaning helps.

It’s been repaired before. Can you still fix it?

Generally, yes. Tell us what was done before and we will plan for it.

Is the work guaranteed?

Yes: twelve months. If there is a problem with the work in that time, we come back and put it right.

Are you a vetted contractor?

We hold CHAS, Constructionline, SafeContractor, SMAS Worksafe and Builder’s Profile accreditations.

Can you repair a chip on a coloured bath?

Yes. The colour is mixed on site to suit your bath, including pastel and older colours.

What areas do you cover?

The whole UK, including all of Dorset. Just include your postcode and we’ll offer you dates.

Is it messy?

Very little mess: we sheet and mask everything nearby, and we leave the room clean.

How long before I can use the bath?

Normally by the following day, though it depends on what we have done.

Bath repair at your home in Merley

Whether your bath is steel, cast iron or acrylic, we can repair it. The method changes with the material: rust is treated on metal baths, while cracks in acrylic are reinforced from underneath. Our repair technicians work on whirlpool & spa baths, cast iron enamel and acrylic, and the jobs we see most are scuffs and scratches in the surface and a hole punched through by something heavy.

Every job is backed for twelve months, and the guarantee is the same wherever you live. We return to put right any problem with the work.

DIY kit or professional repair?

If you’ve already tried a DIY fix, that’s fine. We take the old repair out and do it properly, so it doesn’t stop a professional repair. Just mention it when you send pictures, as it can add time.

If you do try a kit, read the instructions carefully, and don’t use it until it has fully cured. If it does not work out, we can still repair it properly.

What we do, step by step

Your technician turns up at the time we agreed with you, introduces themselves and looks over the damage before anything else. Dust sheets and masking tape go down before we open a single tin. Most visits take a few hours, depending on the damage, and the room is left clean and tidy.

  1. First, we check the damage against your photos and agree the plan.
  2. Loose enamel, rust and dirt are removed so the repair can bond.
  3. The damage is filled in layers and shaped to the curve of the bath.
  4. The colour is tinted by hand until it matches.
  5. The repair is polished to the same gloss as the bath and left to cure.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Have a window or extractor fan available
  • Tell us about any previous repairs or coatings
  • Avoid using the area for a few hours before we arrive

Different materials, different repairs

Pressed steel

Steel baths are lighter than cast iron, but have a similar enamel surface. Chips rust quickly on steel, particularly by the plughole, so repair chips early.

Composite and resin

Stone resin and composite baths are heavy and solid, and frequently freestanding. Chips and scratches are filled and matched, just like other baths.

Keeping it looking good

Most damage we see is avoidable. A few tips:

  • If an acrylic bath flexes, have its feet adjusted
  • Do not scrub with anything abrasive
  • Rinse the bath after use, especially in hard water areas
  • Cover the bath during DIY or decorating

Don’t leave razors, cans or hair grips in the bath, as they can leave rust marks. A dripping tap should be fixed early, too.

Avoid standing in a cracked acrylic bath until it’s fixed. Every use opens the crack a little more, and it can start to leak underneath.

Why repair rather than replace?

For damage in one or two places, a repair is the obvious choice. It costs far less than a new bath plus fitting, it’s done in one visit, and nothing else in the room changes. Our bath repair starts from £95. Our prices are the same across the UK, with no extra for Merley. What changes the price is the job itself: how much damage, what it’s made of and how many items.

Why book with us

  • Honest advice, even when it means no job
  • We come to you, anywhere in the UK
  • Nothing taken out or refitted
  • A fixed quote before booking

Read our full price list and guide to resurfacing and replacement costs.

When a repair isn’t the answer

Not everything can be repaired, and we will tell you before we start. We cannot fix:

  • Cracks in parts of an acrylic bath we can’t get to from below
  • A bath that moves underfoot, until its support is fixed
  • A bath worn all over, where resurfacing makes more sense

Send us photos and we’ll tell you honestly before you book.

Surfaces we repair

  • Roll-top & freestanding
  • Pressed steel enamel

  • Whirlpool & spa baths
  • Acrylic

Landlords, agents and businesses in Merley

Builders, developers and site managers book us for snagging repairs, fixing chips and scratches before handover. We’re CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor accredited.

We regularly price jobs from inventory or check-out photos. That means we can quote before you even visit the property, and we liaise with tenants about access if you’d like us to.

How we price bath repair

Prices start from £95. We charge the same across the UK, including Merley. The price reflects:

  • How many items we do on one visit
  • Where the damage is and how we get to it
  • Whether old repairs or coatings need taking off
  • How much damage there is

We don’t add extras on the day. What we quote from your photos is what you pay, unless the damage turns out to be different, in which case we talk to you first.

Quotes from your pictures

Almost every job we do is priced from pictures. This is what to send:

  • A coin or ruler next to the damage for scale
  • A close-up of the damage, in focus
  • One picture of the whole bath
  • Where you are, by postcode

Send us photos of the damage and one of the whole item, and tell us you’re in Merley, and we will come back with a fixed quote.
