Bath repair in Newbigging

For landlords and businesses

We carry out planned and one-off repairs for housing associations and facilities teams in Fife and across the UK. Repairing in place avoids the disruption of a replacement, which is easier on the people living there.

We also carry out snagging repairs for builders and developers, fixing chips and scratches before handover so nothing needs replacing. We are CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor accredited.

How we handle bath repair in Newbigging

Whether your bath is steel, cast iron or acrylic, we can repair it. Each material is repaired a little differently: rust is treated on metal baths, while cracks in acrylic are reinforced from underneath. Whether it’s damage beneath the taps and a cracked acrylic bath, we can help, whatever the material.

You get a one-year guarantee, the same in Newbigging as everywhere else we work.

When a repair isn’t the answer

Before booking, it’s worth knowing the limits:

  • A bath worn all over, where resurfacing makes more sense
  • A bath that moves underfoot, until its support is fixed
  • Leaks from the waste or overflow fittings (a plumber’s job)

Send us photos and we’ll tell you honestly.

Materials we repair

  • Pressed steel enamel
  • Whirlpool & spa baths
  • Roll-top & freestanding
  • Acrylic
  • Cast iron enamel

How it works

It’s a tidy, low-fuss visit. We agree the arrival time in advance, cover and mask the work area, then carry out the work, which usually takes a few hours. If we find something your photos didn’t show, we’ll explain it before carrying on.

  1. First, the area is cleaned and any loose enamel or rust is removed.
  2. We fill the damage and sand it flush with the surrounding surface.
  3. We mix the colour on the day to match your bath’s exact shade.
  4. Finish coats go on, then the repair is polished to blend in.
  5. We leave it to cure; you can generally use the bath the day after.

Preparing for the visit

  • Let the surface dry out before the visit
  • Tell us if there are stairs or a lift
  • Keep children and pets away from the room on the day

Ask for a price

Pricing is simple: take a close-up of the damage and a photo from further back, send them over with your postcode, and you will get a fixed price back. There’s no charge for the quote and you are under no obligation.

Advice

Repairs by material

Acrylic

Acrylic is light and warm to the touch, but it relies on good support. Cracks are strengthened from behind before the front is finished.

Composite and resin

Composite baths are dense and solid. Chips and scratches can be filled and colour-matched, in much the same way.

How to look after the repair

How the surface is treated afterwards matters. Here’s what we suggest:

  • Clean with warm water and a mild detergent
  • If an acrylic bath flexes, have its feet adjusted
  • Cover the bath during DIY or decorating
  • Get a dripping tap fixed promptly

Leave the repair to cure for as long as we say before running a bath. After that, gentle cleaning keeps it looking good.

Small chips are quick to repair. Left alone, they stain and can rust, so early repair saves time and money.

Can I fix it myself?

For a hairline mark somewhere you will never see, a kit may be enough. For anything you look at every day, anything that has rusted, cracked or holed, or anything on a coloured surface, a professional repair is worth it.

It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The trouble is that kit repairs often look fine at first and then fail, and the old filler has to come out before a proper repair.

Questions from Newbigging

Can you do more than one item on the same visit?

Of course, and it generally saves money. Just add the extra items to your pictures and we’ll quote them together.

Can you repair a hole in a bath?

Generally, yes, if we can reach behind it. The hole is backed, filled and refinished to match.

Do I need to be at home?

Yes. We need access to the room while we work, at a time we agree with you.

Is a cracked acrylic bath repairable?

Frequently, yes, as long as we can get to the back of the crack to support it. Take off the bath panel and check, or send us a picture.

Do you do work for letting agents?

Yes, frequently. We can quote for several properties together and work between tenancies.

Is a bath repair permanent?

It should, as long as the bath is firm and the area was prepared well. It’s covered by our one-year guarantee.

Can rust on a bath be repaired?

Yes, it’s one of the most common repairs we do. The rust is cut back to clean metal and sealed before we fill and finish it.

Do you cover the whole of Fife?

The whole UK, including all of Fife. Send your postcode with your photos and we will confirm dates.

Signs you need bath repair in Newbigging

The usual cause is something heavy dropped into the bath, and building work is a common culprit. Acrylic baths crack for a different reason: poor support underneath, so the bath flexes when it’s full.

Look out for these signs:

  • A chip where the taps sit
  • A cracked acrylic bath
  • A failed DIY repair that’s discoloured or lifting
  • Impact holes in acrylic
