When we would advise against a repair

In fairness, there are a few things a repair will not fix:

  • Acrylic cracks with no access behind them
  • A steel bath rusted through
  • Leaks from the waste or overflow fittings (a plumber’s job)

Not sure? Send pictures and we will give you a straight answer.

What we work on

  • Roll-top & freestanding
  • Pressed steel enamel
  • Whirlpool & spa baths
  • Cast iron enamel

Bath repair in North Leigh without replacing anything

Repairing baths is what we do most. Chips on the rim, rust around the waste and cracks in acrylic are all fixed without removing the bath, generally in a single visit. We regularly repair acrylic, cast iron enamel and pressed steel enamel, and common reasons people contact us are a chipped rim or side and holes from dropped items.

Peace of mind is built in: our one-year guarantee applies to every job, and we will explain exactly what it covers when we quote.

North Leigh questions

Can I add another job to the visit?

Yes. Doing several items on one visit typically costs less than separate visits. Send photos of everything you’d like done.

What happens if you find more damage?

If we find something the pictures didn’t show, we explain it first. The price only changes if you agree.

Do the materials smell?

It depends on the job, but frequently a little. Ventilation keeps it to a minimum, and it soon fades.

Can you repair a failed DIY repair?

Yes. We remove the old filler and start again. Tell us about it when you send pictures.

Can you repair a crack in an acrylic bath?

Frequently, yes, if we can reach the underside to reinforce it. Check under the bath panel, or send us a photo.

Which areas do you work in?

Across the UK, so North Leigh is covered. Our prices are the same everywhere.

Can you quote from photos?

In nearly every case. We only ask to see it in person if the photos can’t show what we need.

It’s been repaired before. Can you still fix it?

Generally, yes. Let us know what was used before and we will plan for it.

Can I fix it myself?

DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can make a small mark look better. The trouble is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler frequently lifts.

A kit can be fine for a tiny mark out of sight. For damage in plain view, cracks, holes or rust, or coloured finishes, a professional repair is worth it.

Should you replace it?

If the rest of the bath is in good condition, a repair is almost always the better choice. It costs less, takes less time and causes far less upheaval, and you keep the bath you chose. If the entire surface is worn, re-enamelling may make more sense, and we will tell you. Our bath repair starts from £95. Every job is a little different, so we price each one individually. The size and type of damage, the material and access all make a difference, and doing several things on one visit costs less than separate visits.

How to care for the repair

To keep it looking its best:

  • Clean with warm water and a mild detergent
  • Put a towel in the bath if you’re working above it
  • Get a dripping tap fixed promptly
  • Check that an acrylic bath does not move when you stand in it

Clean with mild, non-abrasive cleaners and try not to drop heavy bottles on the repair. Get any new chip seen to quickly, before rust can start.

Do not leave a chip on a steel or cast iron bath. Once water reaches the metal, rust begins, and a rust spot is a bigger repair than a clean chip.

What bath repair costs

Prices start from £95. We do not charge extra for travel to North Leigh. The price depends on:

  • Previous DIY repairs that have to come out
  • Where the damage is and how we get to it
  • The material and finish
  • The colour and finish to match

Instead of hourly rates, we fix the price before we start. It depends on the damage, the material and access.

You can take the pictures on your phone. Just make sure we can see:

What happens on the day

Here’s how a visit usually runs: we arrive on time, sheet and mask the area around the job, carry out the work and clear up. Allow a morning or an afternoon. Before leaving, we tell you how long to leave it and what to avoid for the first few days.

  1. We protect the bath and the floor around it.
  2. We clean, key and degrease the damage, and any rust is treated.
  3. Filler goes in and is sanded flush once it has set.
  4. We match both the colour and the shine.
  5. We clear up and give you the curing time, normally until the day after.

Before we arrive

  • Have a window or extractor fan available
  • Tell us if there are stairs or a lift
  • Ensure the area is dry

Getting a price

Pricing is simple: take a close-up of the damage and a photo from further back, send them over with your postcode, and we’ll reply with a fixed price. There’s no charge for the quote and no obligation.

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Composite and resin

Composite baths are dense and solid. Chips and scratches can be filled and colour-matched, in much the same way.

Acrylic

Acrylic is light and warm to the touch, but it relies on good support. Repairs to cracks are reinforced from the back.

When to call us in North Leigh

Many chips happen while the bathroom is being fitted. Tradespeople drop tools and tiles into the bath, frequently before anyone notices. We repair snagging damage like this regularly.

These are the problems we are asked about most:

  • A cracked acrylic bath
  • Scratches you can feel with a fingernail
  • Rust spots around the plughole
  • Damage beneath the taps
