Bath enamel chip by the waste, filled and colour matched (before and after)

How it works

Expect a friendly, tidy visit. We agree the arrival time in advance, protect the area, and get on with the job, which typically takes two to three hours for most chips. If anything looks different from your pictures, we will talk to you before going ahead.

  1. We start by cleaning the damage and taking out loose enamel and rust.
  2. The chip or crack is filled, then sanded level with the bath.
  3. The colour is mixed on the spot to match your bath.
  4. We apply the finish coats and polish the repair so it blends in.
  5. Once it has cured, usually by the day after, the bath is ready to use.

Before we arrive

  • Clear the area around the damage
  • Ensure the room can be ventilated
  • Keep children and pets away from the room on the day

Prices and what affects them

Prices start from £95. There’s no charge for travel to Noutard's Green. The price comes down to:

  • Whether we combine several jobs
  • How much damage there is
  • Previous DIY repairs that have to come out
  • Access to the area

We charge the same wherever you are, so there’s no premium for Noutard's Green. What changes the price is the job itself: how much damage, what it’s made of and how many items.

Getting a price from pictures

Phone pictures are fine, there is no need for anything special. Just ensure we can see:

  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit
  • One picture of the entire bath
  • The material, if you know it
  • Daylight if possible, and no flash reflection

Getting a quote takes a couple of minutes: photograph the damage, then the whole bath, include your postcode and send them to us. What comes back is a fixed quote, not a guess.

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Pressed steel

Pressed steel is thinner and lighter, with an enamel finish like cast iron. Exposed steel rusts fast, especially around the waste, so early repairs matter.

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are so heavy that repairing in place makes obvious sense. The enamel is the part that wears or chips, and that’s what we repair.

Repairing versus replacing in Noutard's Green

Replacing a bath rarely stops at the bath: the tiles sitting on the rim tend to break, a new panel is often needed, and the plumbing has to be disconnected and refitted. A repair skips all of it. Our bath repair starts from £95. We don’t add extras on the day. What we quote from your photos is what you pay, and if the damage turns out to be different, we discuss it before starting.

Signs you need bath repair in Noutard's Green

Heavy toiletries are the biggest single cause of chips, with dropped shower heads close behind. Fittings cause damage too: water sits around them, and any chip there soon rusts.

Most people contact us when they notice one of these:

  • Rust by the waste and overflow
  • Chips caused by builders
  • Scuffs and scratches in the surface
  • A failed DIY repair that’s discoloured or lifting

10 questions to ask before booking

Questions from Noutard's Green

Can you redo someone else’s repair?

Typically, yes. The old repair comes out first.

How invisible is a bath repair?

We aim for a repair you can’t easily find. How well it disappears depends on the condition of the rest of the bath, and we will tell you what to expect.

Does someone need to be in?

Yes. The technician needs access to the room for the visit, at a time that suits you.

What areas do you cover?

Everywhere in the UK, Noutard's Green included. Travel is included in the price.

Is it worth repairing rather than replacing?

Generally, when the rest is in good condition. Repairing avoids the cost and disruption of replacing. If replacing would be better, we’ll say so.

What does bath repair cost?

Repairs from £95. The exact price depends on the damage, so we quote from photos. You know the full cost before anything is booked.

Can you repair a hole in a bath?

Usually, yes, if we can reach behind it. The hole is backed, filled and refinished to match.

Will it make a mess?

Dust sheets and masking go down before we start, and tidy up before we leave.

When we would advise against a repair

A repair isn’t right for every job, for example:

  • A bath worn all over, where resurfacing makes more sense
  • Acrylic cracks with no access behind them
  • A steel bath rusted through

Not sure? Send pictures and we will give you a straight answer before booking.

What we work on

  • Cast iron enamel
  • Acrylic
  • Whirlpool & spa baths
  • Pressed steel enamel
  • Roll-top & freestanding

DIY repairs versus a professional job

We understand the appeal of fixing it yourself. The risk is that a kit repair hides the damage for a while, then fails, and the old filler has to come out before a proper repair.

If you’ve already tried a DIY fix, that is fine. We remove the old filler and start again, so it does not stop a professional repair. It does add a little time, so tell us about it when you send photos.

Aftercare tips

Looking after the surface is easy, and it makes a real difference:

  • Rinse the bath after use, especially in hard water areas
  • Have new chips seen to early
  • Cover the bath during DIY or decorating
  • Check that an acrylic bath does not move when you stand in it

Treat the repaired area like the rest of the bath: a soft cloth and washing-up liquid is all it needs. Avoid scourers and gritty cream cleaners.

Rust under enamel spreads surprisingly quickly. A chip the size of a fingernail can become a much larger patch if it’s left for months, so it pays to deal with it early.
