Bath repair for Over homes

Bath repair at your home in Over

We repair enamelled steel, cast iron and acrylic baths. The method changes with the material: metal baths need any rust dealt with first, and acrylic cracks need support from behind. We are often asked to fix a chipped rim or side and snagging damage from a refit, in whirlpool & spa baths, cast iron enamel and roll-top & freestanding.

A one-year guarantee comes with the work, just as it does everywhere we cover.

How it works

Your technician turns up when we said we would and checks the damage against your pictures first. The floor and nearby surfaces are covered before we open a single tin. Most visits take two to three hours for most chips, and the room is left clean and tidy.

  1. Dust sheets and masking go down around the bath.
  2. The damaged area is cleaned, keyed and degreased, and any rust is treated.
  3. Filler goes in and is sanded flush once it has set.
  4. Colour and gloss are matched to the surrounding surface.
  5. We clear up and give you the curing time, normally until the day after.

Before we arrive

  • Plan for the room to be out of bounds to pets and children
  • Clear toiletries, mats and anything else from around the area
  • Tell us about parking, stairs or access

Prices and what affects them

Repairs from £95. We charge the same across the UK, including Over. What changes the price is:

  • The size and number of damaged areas
  • Previous DIY repairs that have to come out
  • How easy the damage is to reach
  • Unusual colours or finishes

No two jobs are quite the same, so we price each one individually. What’s damaged, how badly and how easy it is to reach all make a difference, and doing several things on one visit costs less than separate visits.

How to get a fixed price

A couple of clear pictures is all it takes. Try to include:

  • A picture taken from further back
  • What it’s made of, if you know
  • Details of any past repairs
  • Daylight if possible, and no flash reflection

Getting a price is easy: take a close-up of the damage and a picture from further back, send them over with your postcode, and we’ll reply with a fixed quote. There’s no charge for the quote and you are under no obligation.

When a repair is not the answer

Not everything can be repaired, and we’d rather say so up front. Repairs will not solve:

  • Leaks from the waste or overflow fittings (a plumber’s job)
  • A bath worn all over, where resurfacing makes more sense
  • Flexing caused by a failed cradle or loose feet

Not sure? Send photos and we’ll give you a straight answer before you book.

Materials we repair

  • Whirlpool & spa baths
  • Acrylic
  • Cast iron enamel
  • Roll-top & freestanding
  • Pressed steel enamel

Common problems we fix in Over

A cracked acrylic bath typically wasn’t supported properly. Legs that are not adjusted, a missing cradle or a soft floor let the bath move.

Look out for these signs:

  • Rust spots around the plughole
  • A chipped rim or side
  • A kit repair that didn’t last
  • A chip where the taps sit

What to look for in a quote

  • How changes to the job are handled
  • Aftercare advice
  • Whether a trained technician does the job
  • How long the guarantee is and what it covers

Choosing a repair company

Can I fix it myself?

It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The trouble is that kit repairs frequently look fine at first and then fail, and then the old filler has to be removed first.

DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can tidy up a tiny mark. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler often lifts.

Repairing versus replacing in Over

If the rest of the bath is in good condition, a repair is almost always the better choice. It’s quicker, cheaper and far less disruptive, and the bathroom stays as it is. If the entire surface is worn, re-enamelling may make more sense, and we’ll tell you. Repairs from £95, with every job priced individually. Compared with replacing, repairing normally costs far less, because there is no removal, plumbing or making good. The quote lists exactly what you are paying for.

What you get with us

Keeping it looking good

Most damage we see is avoidable. A few tips:

  • Store metal items away from the bath
  • Avoid scourers, wire wool and gritty cream cleaners
  • Get any new chip repaired before it rusts
  • Stick to mild cleaners and a soft cloth

For the first few days, keep heavy bottles off the repaired spot. After that, clean it as you would the rest of the bath, avoiding abrasives.

Rust spreads under enamel faster than most people expect. Left for months, a small chip can grow into a large rust patch, so it pays to deal with it early.

Different materials, different repairs

Cast iron

A cast iron bath is heavy enough that most people never want to move it. The enamel is the part that wears or chips, and that’s the part we put right.

Composite and resin

Stone resin and composite baths are heavy and solid, and frequently freestanding. Chips and scratches can be filled and colour matched, just like other baths.
