About our bath repair in Penlan

Small damage on a bath is worth repairing early. On steel and cast iron, exposed metal starts to rust, and on acrylic, a crack keeps spreading while the bath flexes. Repairing it stops the damage getting worse. Our technicians work on acrylic, cast iron enamel and pressed steel enamel, and the jobs we see most are damage beneath the taps and rusty patches near the plughole.

Every repair is covered by our one-year guarantee, wherever you are in Swansea.

How we price bath repair

Repairs from £95. There’s no area surcharge for Penlan. The price reflects:

  • Previous DIY repairs that have to come out
  • The size and number of damaged areas
  • How hard the colour is to match
  • How many items we do on one visit

What it costs depends on how much damage there is and what kind, the material and how many items we do on one visit. We give a fixed price from your photos, so you know the cost before booking.

Getting a price from photos

We price nearly every job from pictures. This is what to send:

  • The material, if you know it
  • Natural light rather than flash
  • A photo taken from further back
  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit

To get a price, send two or three pictures through our quote form or ring us. We will tell you honestly if a repair is the right fix.

Your questions about bath repair in Penlan

Do I need to be at home?

Yes. The technician needs access to the room for the visit, at a time we agree with you.

Do you hold any accreditations?

We’re accredited with CHAS, Constructionline, SafeContractor, SMAS Worksafe and Builder’s Profile.

I rent my home. Can I book you?

We can work for tenants, landlords or agents. Just make sure the landlord agrees.

Can you redo someone else’s repair?

Most of the time. Tell us what was done before and we will plan for it.

Is it safe with children and pets around?

Yes, as long as they stay out of the room we’re working in. We’ll let you know when it’s safe to use again.

How long does the repair take to cure?

Usually the next day. We will tell you the exact curing time when we finish.

How quickly can you book me in?

We will give you dates with your quote. If it’s urgent, say so and we’ll do what we can.

Can you fix rust around the plughole?

Yes. We remove the rust and loose enamel, seal and fill the area, then colour-match the finish.

Landlord and trade work in Penlan

Rented homes see more wear and tear, and replacing items every time a tenant leaves is expensive. Repairing between tenants keeps the property presentable for less.

If you manage property in Penlan, we can repair and quote for several addresses together. Send photos for each one and we’ll price them together.

DIY repairs versus a professional job

It’s tempting to reach for a kit, but the repairs we redo most often are DIY ones that have discoloured or lifted. Getting it right first time is usually cheaper.

We understand the appeal of fixing it yourself. The risk is that a kit repair hides the damage for a while, then fails, and the old filler has to come out before a proper repair.

The process

From the moment we arrive, the aim is to do the job without disturbing the rest of your home. Surfaces nearby are masked off, the work takes a few hours, depending on the damage, and we finish with a tidy-up and a look at the finished work together.

  1. Dust sheets and masking go down around the bath.
  2. The damaged area is cleaned, keyed and degreased.
  3. Filler goes in and is sanded flush once it has set.
  4. We match both the colour and the shine.
  5. We clear up and give you the curing time, normally until the day after.

Advice

How to care for the repair

Most damage we see is avoidable. These habits help:

  • Give the bath a quick rinse after use
  • If an acrylic bath flexes, have its feet adjusted
  • Get any new chip repaired before it rusts
  • Get a dripping tap fixed promptly

For the first few days, keep heavy bottles off the repaired spot. After that, normal gentle cleaning is fine without abrasive products.

Do not leave a chip on a steel or cast iron bath. Water gets to the metal and rust starts, and a rust spot is a bigger repair than a clean chip.

Why repair rather than replace?

For damage in one or two places, a repair is the obvious choice. It costs far less than a new bath plus fitting, it’s done in one visit, and the bathroom stays exactly as it is. Prices start from £95. It helps to know what pushes a price up or down: access, material, the extent of the damage and whether we can do several items together. Send pictures and you’ll get a fixed figure.

What your bath is made of matters

Pressed steel

Steel baths are lighter than cast iron, but have a similar enamel surface. Exposed steel rusts fast, particularly by the plughole, so early repairs matter.

Acrylic

Acrylic baths are moulded sheet reinforced underneath. They don’t rust, but they can crack, scratch or be holed, and a crack only stays repaired if it’s supported underneath.
