How we handle bath repair in Penygelli

We repair just the damaged spot and colour-match it to the bath, which costs far less than replacing a fitted bath. You can usually use the bath the following day. Our technicians work on roll-top & freestanding, whirlpool & spa baths and pressed steel enamel, and common reasons people get in touch are snagging damage from a refit and scratches you can feel with a fingernail.

You get a one-year guarantee, the same in Penygelli as everywhere else we work.

Before and after: a damaged acrylic bath corner repaired in place

How the visit works

Arrival times are agreed in advance, so you’re not left guessing. Once we’re there, the work takes two to three hours for most chips for most jobs. The room is left tidy and you will know when it can be used.

  1. First, the area is cleaned and any loose enamel or rust is removed.
  2. Next we fill the damage and sand it smooth and level.
  3. We tint the finish on the day to suit your bath’s shade of white or colour.
  4. Finish coats go on, then the repair is polished to blend in.
  5. Once it has cured, typically by the following day, the bath is ready to use.

Preparing for the visit

  • Plan for the room to be out of bounds to pets and children
  • Mention any parking restrictions or tricky access
  • Open a window if you can

Prices and what affects them

Prices start from £95. We charge the same across the UK, including Penygelli. The price reflects:

  • What kind of damage it is
  • How hard the colour is to match
  • How many items we do on one visit
  • The size and number of damaged areas

What it costs depends on the type and amount of damage, the material and how many jobs we combine into one visit. We give a fixed price from your photos, so there are no surprises on the day.

Quotes from your photos

A couple of clear pictures is all it takes. Try to include:

  • Your postcode, so we can check dates
  • One picture of the entire bath
  • Any earlier repairs or coatings
  • Good light, ideally daylight, without flash glare

For a price in Penygelli, the easiest route is pictures: one close up, one from further back, plus your postcode. You’ll get a fixed quote with dates to choose from.

Common problems we fix in Penygelli

Rust tends to begin where water collects, by the plughole, beneath dripping taps or in an unrepaired chip. Water on bare metal causes rust that creeps under the surrounding enamel.

People generally call us after spotting one of these:

  • Scuffs and scratches in the surface
  • A kit repair that didn’t last
  • A chip where the taps sit
  • Rusty patches near the plughole

10 questions to ask before booking

Questions from Penygelli

Can you repair a chip on a coloured bath?

Yes, we match coloured baths too. We tint the finish to your bath on site.

Can you redo an old repair?

Yes, we do this frequently. The old material comes out, any rust is treated, then we repair it properly.

Can you redo someone else’s repair?

Yes, we often do. Removing the old work can add time, and that’s in the quote.

Can you quote from pictures?

Nearly always. We only ask to see it in person if the pictures cannot show what we need.

Is there any odour?

It depends on the job, but often a little. Ventilation keeps it to a minimum, and it soon fades.

Will it make a mess?

We protect the room with dust sheets and masking first, and tidy up before we leave.

Can a cracked acrylic bath be fixed?

Normally, yes, if we can reach the underside to reinforce it. Take off the bath panel and check, or send us a picture.

Will the price change on the day?

We stop, show you and agree any change before carrying on. You won’t be charged for anything you haven’t agreed.

Aftercare tips

A little care keeps the finish looking good. We recommend:

  • Clean with warm water and a mild detergent
  • Cover the bath during DIY or decorating
  • Don’t leave razors or cans standing in the bath
  • Rinse it down after each bath

For the first few days, keep heavy bottles off the repaired spot. After that, clean it as you would the rest of the bath, avoiding abrasives.

A chip on a metal bath shouldn’t be left. Water gets to the metal and rust starts, and a rust spot is a bigger repair than a clean chip.

Different materials, different repairs

Acrylic

An acrylic bath is a moulded sheet strengthened from below. There is no rust, but cracks, holes and scratches happen, and a crack only stays repaired if it’s supported underneath.

Pressed steel

Pressed steel is thinner and lighter, with an enamel finish like cast iron. Chips rust quickly on steel, particularly by the plughole, so repair chips early.

Repair or replace: which is better?

A new bath costs more than the bath itself: removal and disposal, plumbing, a new panel, tiling and decorating. With a repair, it’s one visit and one price. Repairs from £95, with every job priced individually. We charge the same wherever you are, so there is no premium for Penygelli. The job itself decides the price: the material, the amount of damage and how many items.

What you get with us

  • Fixed prices from your pictures
  • Generally one visit, start to finish
  • A year’s guarantee on all work
  • We leave the room as we found it

Can I fix it myself?

The difference between a kit and a professional repair is mostly in the preparation and colour. We clean and key the area properly, mix the colour to your surface and finish it to the same sheen, then guarantee it for a year.

A DIY attempt is not a disaster. We remove the old filler and start again, so it will not stop us repairing it. It does add a little time, so tell us about it when you send photos.

For landlords and businesses

Letting agents often send us pictures straight from the inventory. That means we can quote before you even visit the property, and we liaise with tenants about access if you’d like us to.

We regularly work with letting and managing agents. Send the address, pictures and access details and we’ll handle the rest.
