Bath repair in Pitmedden

Bath repair at your home in Pitmedden

Small damage on a bath is worth repairing early. On steel and cast iron, exposed metal starts to rust, and on acrylic, a crack keeps spreading while the bath flexes. A repair stops both. If you’re dealing with snagging damage from a refit and rust spots around the plughole, we can usually put it right, whatever the material.

You are covered for a year from the day of the repair. Just call us if there is a problem and we’ll come back.

Repair or replace: which is better?

Many people think a damaged bath means a new one. In most cases it does not: a repair keeps the bath in service for years, without the cost and upheaval of replacing it. Prices start from £95. Instead of hourly rates, we fix the price before we start. Damage, material and access decide it, and doing several items at once reduces it.

What we can’t put right

A repair isn’t right for every job, for example:

  • A bath that moves underfoot, until its support is fixed
  • Acrylic cracks with no access behind them
  • Leaks from the waste or overflow fittings (a plumber’s job)

If in doubt, send pictures and we’ll say what we think.

Surfaces we repair

  • Whirlpool & spa baths
  • Acrylic
  • Pressed steel enamel
  • Cast iron enamel
  • Roll-top & freestanding

Should I try a DIY kit first?

You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can make a small mark look better. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface isn’t prepared the repair will not last.

We understand the appeal of fixing it yourself. The risk is that a kit repair hides the damage for a while, then fails, and the old filler has to come out before a proper repair.

Aftercare tips

So the finish stays in good condition for years:

  • Have new chips seen to early
  • Put a towel in the bath if you’re working above it
  • Don’t scrub with anything abrasive
  • Fix dripping taps early to stop staining and limescale

Leave the repair to cure for as long as we say before running a bath. From then on, mild cleaning is all it needs.

If an acrylic bath has a crack, stop showering in it until it’s repaired. Each time it flexes, the crack grows, and it can start to leak underneath.

What happens on the day

Here’s how a visit usually runs: we arrive on time, sheet and mask the area around the job, carry out the work and tidy away. Allow two to three hours for most chips. Before we go, we’ll explain how long to leave it and how to look after it.

  1. First, we check the damage against your photos and agree the plan.
  2. Any rust and loose material comes out, and the area is degreased.
  3. The damage is filled in layers and shaped to the curve of the bath.
  4. We tint the finish by hand to match the bath.
  5. Finally, it’s polished to match the shine and left to cure.

How to prepare

  • Open a window if you can
  • Have somewhere for us to park nearby if possible
  • Keep children and pets away from the room on the day

What bath repair costs

Repairs from £95. A fixed quote means you know the cost before booking. We look at:

  • How hard the colour is to match
  • Previous DIY repairs that have to come out
  • How many areas need work
  • The type of damage

A repair is priced on what needs doing, not where you live. The full price is agreed before you book.

Quotes from your pictures

Before you send photos, these tips help us give you a firm price:

  • One picture of the entire bath
  • A coin or ruler next to the damage for scale
  • Any earlier repairs or coatings
  • Good light, ideally daylight, without flash glare

The quickest way to a price is to send a couple of photos through our quote form or ring us. We’ll say right away whether it can be repaired.

What we’re called out for in Pitmedden

Heavy toiletries are the biggest single cause of chips, with dropped shower heads close behind. Fittings cause damage too: water sits around them, and any chip there soon rusts.

It’s worth getting a quote if you see:

  • Holes from dropped items
  • Chips on the rim or sides
  • A failed DIY repair that’s discoloured or lifting
  • Chips under the taps

What to look for in a quote

  • How the colour is matched
  • What prep work is covered
  • How the room is protected while they work
  • How long it needs to cure

10 questions to ask before booking

Different materials, different repairs

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are so heavy that repairing in place makes obvious sense. The enamel is the part that wears or chips, and that’s what we repair.

Acrylic

An acrylic bath is a moulded sheet strengthened from below. They do not rust, but they can crack, scratch or be holed, and a crack only stays repaired if it’s supported underneath.

Pitmedden: your questions answered

Do you cover Pitmedden?

Can you repair several things at once?

Yes, and it’s often cheaper. Just add the extra items to your pictures and we’ll quote them together.
