About our bath repair in Plains
Repairing baths is what we do most. A chip by the taps, a crack in the base and a rust spot by the plughole are all repaired in place, normally in one visit. If you are dealing with rust by the waste and overflow and chips under the taps, we can typically put it right, on cast iron enamel, whirlpool & spa baths and acrylic alike.
You get a one-year guarantee, the same in Plains as everywhere else we work.

When we’d advise against a repair
A few problems are outside what a surface repair can do:
- A bath that flexes because its feet or cradle have failed (that needs fixing first)
- Acrylic cracks with no access behind them
- Leaking fittings, which need a plumber
If in doubt, send pictures and we’ll say what we think.

- Whirlpool & spa baths
- Roll-top & freestanding

- Cast iron enamel
What happens on the day
Here’s how a visit generally runs: we arrive at the agreed slot, protect everything around the work area, carry out the work and tidy away. Plan for a few hours. Before we go, we will explain when it can be used and how to look after it.
- We start by looking at the damage and confirming the plan with you.
- Loose enamel, rust and dirt are removed so the repair can bond.
- We build up the filler in layers, shaping it to the bath.
- We tint the finish by hand to match the bath.
- The repair is polished to the same gloss as the bath and left to cure.
How to prepare

Advice
Repairs by material
Acrylic
Acrylic feels warm and is light, but it relies on good support. Cracks are strengthened from behind before the front is finished.
Cast iron
Cast iron baths are so heavy that repairing in place makes obvious sense. Only the enamel surface wears or chips, and that’s what we repair.

Can I fix it myself?
It’s tempting to reach for a kit, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Getting it right first time is usually cheaper.
A DIY attempt is not a disaster. We remove the old filler and start again, so it doesn’t stop a professional repair. It does add a little time, so tell us about it when you send photos.
Why repair rather than replace?
A new bath costs more than the bath itself: taking out the old one, plumbing, tiling, a panel and redecorating. With a repair, it’s one visit and one price. Prices start from £95. It helps to know what pushes a price up or down: access, material, the extent of the damage and whether we can do several items together. Photos let us give you a fixed figure.
Why Plains customers choose us
- No need to remove anything
- A year’s guarantee on all work
- Accredited with CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor

Aftercare tips
After the repair has cured, a few habits help it last:
- Keep abrasive pads and gritty cleaners away from the bath
- Protect the bath with a towel when doing jobs nearby
- Ensure an acrylic bath is firm underfoot
- Store metal items away from the bath
Keep metal objects like razors and cans off the surface, because they can mark the enamel. And fix dripping taps promptly.
Rust under enamel spreads surprisingly quickly. A chip the size of a fingernail can become a much larger patch if it’s left for months, so early repair keeps the cost down.

Your questions about bath repair in Plains
Is a bath repair permanent?
Yes, if it’s prepared properly and the bath is sound. It’s covered by our one-year guarantee.
Does someone need to be in?
Someone needs to let us in and show us the job. You don’t need to watch us work.
Will the repair show?
On a bath in good condition, a colour-matched repair is very hard to spot. On worn enamel, it can look shinier than the rest.
Do you work for landlords and businesses?
Yes. We carry out repairs for householders, landlords, letting agents, builders and businesses in Plains.
I tried a repair kit. Can you fix it?
Yes. We take out the old repair and do it properly. Tell us about it when you send pictures.
When can I have a bath again?
Normally by the following day, depending on the repair.
Can you quote from photos?
In nearly every case. We only ask to see it in person if the photos cannot show what we need.
How quickly can you book me in?
It depends on the time of year and where you are. Send pictures with your postcode and we’ll reply with the earliest dates.
