Materials and what they mean for the repair

Cast iron

Cast iron is heavy and rigid, with a fused enamel surface. Chips can rust if left, but the bath itself lasts for generations, so it’s always worth repairing.

Acrylic

Acrylic feels warm and is light, but it needs firm support underneath. Cracks are strengthened from behind before the front is finished.

How to care for the repair

After the repair has cured, a few habits help it last:

  • A dripping tap stains enamel, so fix it early
  • Don’t scrub with anything abrasive
  • Cover the bath during DIY or decorating
  • Stick to mild cleaners and a soft cloth

Don’t leave razors, cans or hair grips in the bath, as they can leave rust marks. A dripping tap should be fixed early, too.

A chip on a metal bath shouldn’t be left. Once water reaches the metal, rust begins, turning a quick repair into a bigger one.

Plumstead questions

What if the damage is worse than the photos show?

The price is fixed for what the photos show. If there is more, we will tell you before starting.

What information do you need?

Some photos, your postcode and how to reach you. On the day, access to the room.

Are there extra charges for Plumstead?

We don’t add a call-out fee. Your fixed price includes everything.

What happens once I’ve sent photos?

We check the damage, the material and your postcode, then reply with a quote.

Do you cover Plumstead?

We do. Repair technicians travel to Plumstead from across the region, and the price is the same as everywhere else.

What does bath repair cost?

Repairs from £95. The exact price depends on the damage, so we quote from pictures. You know the full cost before anything is booked.

Can pets and children be at home?

On the day, the room should be kept clear of pets and children.

Do you repair coloured baths?

Yes, coloured baths are no problem. The colour is tinted by hand on the day.

For landlords and businesses

We are used to working with agents and managing companies. Just send photos, the address and how to get access and we will handle the rest.

Builders, developers and site managers book us for snagging repairs, putting right damage done during fitting so nothing needs replacing. We hold CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor accreditations.

Repairing versus replacing in Plumstead

If the rest of the bath is in good condition, a repair is almost always the better choice. It’s quicker, cheaper and far less disruptive, and you keep the bath you chose. If the entire surface is worn, re-enamelling may make more sense, and we will tell you. Repairs from £95, with every job priced individually. Rather than charging by the hour, we price the whole job up front. Damage, material and access decide it, and doing several items at once reduces it.

Why us?

  • Rooms protected and left tidy
  • CHAS and Constructionline accredited
  • Colour mixed on the day to match
  • Generally one visit, start to finish

Take a look at our prices page or guide to resurfacing and replacement costs.

What we do, step by step

Nothing needs to be moved out of the room. Everything we use comes in the van with us, put protection down and get going once we have agreed what we’re doing. Most jobs take a few hours, depending on the damage, and you’re welcome to carry on with your day while we work.

  1. We start by looking at the damage and confirming the plan with you.
  2. Any rust and loose material comes out, and the area is degreased.
  3. The damage is filled in layers and shaped to the curve of the bath.
  4. We tint the finish by hand to match the bath.
  5. The repair is polished to the same gloss as the bath and left to cure.

Before we arrive

  • Keep pets and children out of the room while we work
  • Keep a parking space free if you can
  • Tell us about any previous repairs or coatings

Ask for a price

Advice

DIY repairs versus a professional job

If you do try a kit, read the instructions carefully, ensure the area is clean and completely dry, and give it the full curing time. If it does not work out, we can still repair it properly.

What a professional repair adds is preparation, colour matching and finishing. We prepare the area properly, mix the colour on site and polish the finish to match, and the work is guaranteed.

What affects the price in Plumstead

Prices start from £95. We price every job individually. The main factors are:

  • How many areas need work
  • The type of damage
  • Unusual colours or finishes
  • Whether we combine several jobs

We charge the same wherever you are, with no extra for Plumstead. The job itself decides the price: the material, the amount of damage and how many items.

Getting a price from pictures

The better the pictures, the more accurate the price. Here’s what we find most useful:

  • Natural light rather than flash
  • The material, if you know it
  • A coin or ruler next to the damage for scale
  • A wider photo showing the whole bath

Pricing is simple: snap the damage close up and then the whole item, send them over with your postcode, and we’ll reply with a fixed quote. Quotes are free and no obligation.

What we can’t put right

Some problems need a builder, plumber or fitter rather than us:

  • Leaks from the waste or overflow fittings (a plumber’s job)
  • Cracks in acrylic we cannot reach from underneath
  • Wear across the entire surface, which needs re-enamelling

If in doubt, send pictures and we will say what we think before booking.

What we work on

  • Cast iron enamel
