About our bath repair in Post Green

Whatever the damage, the aim is the same: a repair that is smooth, sound and hard to spot. Proper preparation, careful filling and shaping, then colour and gloss matching so it sits flush with the rest of the bath. We are frequently asked to fix scratches you can feel with a fingernail and a kit repair that didn’t last, in cast iron enamel, acrylic and pressed steel enamel.

The work is guaranteed for twelve months. If there is a problem with the repair within the year, we return and sort it.

When to call us in Post Green

A bath gets knocked about more than you’d think: everyday items get dropped into it all the time, and taps and wastes are tightened against the surface. Sooner or later, most baths pick up a chip.

These are the problems we are asked about most:

  • Chips along the edge of the bath
  • Rusty patches near the plughole
  • Chips caused by builders
  • Chips under the taps

When we would advise against a repair

We will not take on work that will not last, so here’s what a repair cannot put right:

  • A whole bath that’s dull or worn, where a full re-enamel is the better fix
  • Cracks in acrylic we can’t reach from underneath
  • A bath that flexes because its feet or cradle have failed (that needs fixing first)

Not sure? Send photos and we’ll give you a straight answer.

Surfaces we repair

  • Cast iron enamel
  • Pressed steel enamel
  • Roll-top & freestanding
  • Whirlpool & spa baths
  • Acrylic

Different materials, different repairs

Cast iron

A cast iron bath is heavy enough that most people never want to move it. The enamel is the part that wears or chips, and that’s the part we put right.

Pressed steel

Pressed steel is thinner and lighter, with an enamel finish like cast iron. Chips rust quickly on steel, especially around the waste, so repair chips early.

Prices and what affects them

Prices start from £95. You’ll know the full cost before you book. We look at:

  • How many areas need work
  • How many items we do on one visit
  • Whether it’s a chip, crack, burn or wear
  • Unusual colours or finishes

It helps to know what pushes a price up or down: the amount of damage, the material, access to the area, and how many jobs we do in one trip. Send photos and you’ll get a fixed figure.

Quotes from your photos

Most quotes are done from photos alone. To help us price it:

  • A coin or ruler next to the damage for scale
  • Good light, ideally daylight, without flash glare
  • Where you are, by postcode
  • One sharp close-up of the damage

Send us a photo of the damage and one of the whole item, with your BH16 postcode, and we will come back with a fixed quote.

Post Green: your questions answered

What happens next?

You get a fixed price and available dates. If we need another angle, we’ll ask.

Can a cracked acrylic bath be fixed?

Often, yes, as long as we can get to the back of the crack to support it. Take off the bath panel and check, or send us a photo.

Is the work guaranteed?

Yes: twelve months. If there’s a problem with the work in that time, we come back and put it right.

Will you leave a mess?

Dust sheets and masking go down before we start, and tidy up before we leave.

Do you work in Post Green?

Yes. We work across the UK and travel to Post Green and the rest of Dorset. Send photos and we’ll quote, or call 0345 017 0787.

Can you repair something that is been repaired before?

Generally, yes. Let us know what was used before and we’ll plan for it.

Do you do work for letting agents?

Yes. We carry out repairs for homeowners, landlords, letting agents, builders and businesses.

Can you repair several things at once?

Yes, and it’s frequently cheaper. Send pictures of everything together and we’ll quote them together.

Should you replace it?

A new bath brings a chain of other jobs: tiles along the rim typically crack when it comes out, a new panel is frequently needed, and the plumbing has to be disconnected and refitted. Repairing the damage avoids all of that. Prices start from £95. Set against the cost of replacement, a repair is generally a fraction of the price, because nothing has to be taken out, refitted or made good. The quote lists exactly what you are paying for.

Can I fix it myself?

Kits are cheap and easy to find, but the repairs we redo most often are DIY ones that have discoloured or lifted. Doing it properly first is generally the cheaper route.

DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can tidy up a tiny mark. The trouble is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler often lifts.

Keeping it looking good

Most damage we see is avoidable. A few tips:

  • Avoid scourers, wire wool and gritty cream cleaners
  • Get a dripping tap fixed promptly
  • Store metal items away from the bath
  • Don’t leave a fresh chip for long

Don’t leave razors, cans or hair grips in the bath, because they can mark the enamel. And fix dripping taps promptly.

Tape over a fresh chip or crack until it’s repaired, to keep water out. Remove it before the repair.

What we do, step by step

When we visit, we arrive at the time we’ve agreed, cover the area with dust sheets and masking, and set to work. The job usually takes a morning or an afternoon. We tidy up before we leave and let you know when you can use it again.

  1. First, we check the damage against your pictures and agree the plan.
  2. Loose enamel, rust and dirt are removed so the repair can bond.
  3. The damage is filled in layers and shaped to the curve of the bath.
  4. We tint the finish by hand to match the bath.
  5. Finally, it’s polished to match the shine and left to cure.

Before we arrive

  • Mention any earlier repairs or resurfacing
  • Mention any parking restrictions or tricky access
  • Let us know which floor the room is on
