Bath repair in Prestongrange

How we handle bath repair in Prestongrange

It pays to repair bath damage while it’s small. Exposed metal on enamelled baths soon rusts, and on acrylic, a crack keeps spreading while the bath flexes. Repairing it stops the damage getting worse. Typical jobs include a hole punched through by something heavy and a kit repair that didn’t last, on pressed steel enamel, roll-top & freestanding and whirlpool & spa baths.

A one-year guarantee comes as standard, so you are not left on your own once we have gone.

What bath repair costs

Repairs from £95. We charge the same across the UK, including Prestongrange. The price reflects:

  • Doing more than one item at once
  • Previous DIY repairs that have to come out
  • What the surface is made of
  • The type of damage

We don’t add extras on the day. What we quote from your photos is what you pay, unless the damage turns out to be different, in which case we talk to you first.

How to get a fixed price

A couple of clear pictures is all it takes. It helps if you send:

  • Whether it’s been repaired or coated before
  • Something in shot to show the size
  • What it’s made of, if you know
  • One sharp close-up of the damage

Most customers in Prestongrange get their price from pictures. Add a line about what happened and your postcode, and we will send back a fixed quote and some dates.

Your questions about bath repair in Prestongrange

What happens after I send pictures?

We review the pictures and send a fixed quote.

Can you repair a hole in a bath?

Frequently, if there’s access underneath. The hole is backed, filled and refinished to match.

Will I be able to see the repair?

On a bath in good condition, a colour matched repair is very hard to spot. On older, dull enamel the repair can look glossier than the area around it.

Do I need to be at home?

Yes. We need access to the room while we work, at a time that suits you.

What if the damage is worse than the pictures show?

If we find something the photos didn’t show, we explain it first. The price only changes if you agree.

Do you hold any accreditations?

We hold CHAS, Constructionline, SafeContractor, SMAS Worksafe and Builder’s Profile accreditations.

Do you cover the entire of East Lothian?

All of East Lothian, and the rest of the UK. Travel is included in the price.

Is repairing better than replacing?

Usually, if the item is otherwise sound. Repairing avoids the cost and disruption of replacing. If replacing would be better, we will say so.

Looking after it afterwards

Nothing complicated is needed, just a few sensible habits:

  • Get a dripping tap fixed promptly
  • Stick to mild cleaners and a soft cloth
  • If an acrylic bath flexes, have its feet adjusted
  • Do not leave razors or cans standing in the bath

In the first few days, avoid putting weight or bottles on the repair. After that, normal gentle cleaning is fine.

Small chips are quick to repair. Left alone, they stain and can rust, so early repair saves time and money.

Common problems we fix in Prestongrange

Rust tends to begin where water collects, around the waste, under the taps or in an old chip. Once water reaches the steel or iron, rust spreads under the enamel.

Most people contact us after spotting one of these:

  • Chips caused by builders
  • Impact holes in acrylic
  • Damage beneath the taps
  • A cracked acrylic bath

Questions to ask before you book

  • Whether a trained technician does the job
  • Whether the price is fixed and includes VAT
  • Whether the colour is mixed to match
  • How changes to the job are handled

How to compare quotes

What happens on the day

Here’s how a visit typically runs: we arrive on time, protect everything around the work area, carry out the work and clear up. Allow a few hours, depending on the damage. Before leaving, we tell you when it can be used and what to avoid for the first few days.

  1. We protect the bath and the floor around it.
  2. The damaged area is cleaned, keyed and degreased, and any rust is treated.
  3. We fill it, let it set, then sand it flush.
  4. Colour and gloss are matched to the surrounding surface.
  5. We clear up and give you the curing time, normally until the following day.

Preparing for the visit

  • Point us to the nearest place to park
  • Mention any earlier repairs or resurfacing
  • Ensure the area is dry

For landlords and businesses

For developers and builders, we fix damage before handover. Several plots can be done in one visit to keep costs down.

Housing associations and facilities teams use us for planned and reactive repairs in East Lothian and across the UK. A repair avoids taking out and refitting, which matters when someone is living in the home.

DIY kit or professional repair?

If you’ve already tried a DIY fix, that is fine. We remove the old filler and start again, so it doesn’t stop a professional repair. It does add a little time, so tell us about it when you send photos.

It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The trouble is that kit repairs frequently look fine at first and then fail, and the old filler has to come out before a proper repair.

Repair or replace in Prestongrange?

When the bath is otherwise sound, repairing beats replacing. It costs less, takes less time and causes far less upheaval, and the bathroom stays as it is. Where the whole surface is tired, we may suggest re-enamelling instead. Repairs from £95, with every job priced individually. Rather than charging by the hour, we fix the price before we start. Damage, material and access decide it.

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Acrylic

Acrylic baths are moulded sheet reinforced underneath. There’s no rust, but cracks, holes and scratches happen, and cracks need support from behind to stay fixed.

Pressed steel

Steel baths are lighter than cast iron, but have a similar enamel surface. Chips rust quickly on steel, particularly by the plughole, so repair chips early.
