Bath repair at your home in Rain Shore

Repairing baths is what we do most. A chip by the taps, a crack in the base and a rust spot by the plughole are all fixed without removing the bath, typically in a single visit. Whether it’s a hole punched through by something heavy and a chip where the taps sit, we can usually put it right, whatever the material.

Every repair is covered by a one-year guarantee, wherever you are in Rochdale.

Work for landlords and builders

Hospitality businesses need rooms back in use quickly, so we keep visits short and tidy. We can work around your bookings.

Rented homes see more wear and tear, and replacing things at every changeover adds up. Repairing between tenants keeps the property presentable for less.

Rain Shore questions

It’s been repaired before. Can you still fix it?

Generally, yes. Let us know what was used before.

Is a cracked acrylic bath repairable?

Usually, yes, as long as we can get to the back of the crack to support it. Take off the bath panel and check, or send us a picture.

Is it worth repairing rather than replacing?

Normally, if the item is otherwise sound. Repairing avoids the cost and disruption of replacing. We’ll tell you honestly if replacement makes more sense.

Do the materials smell?

It depends on the job, but often a little. Ventilation keeps it to a minimum.

Will I be able to see the repair?

On a glossy bath, you will struggle to find it. On older, dull enamel the repair can look glossier than the area around it.

Do I have to be there?

Yes. The technician needs access to the room for the visit, at a time that suits you.

Will it make a mess?

Dust sheets and masking go down before we start, and we clean up when we’ve finished.

Can you quote from pictures?

In nearly every case. If photos don’t show enough, we’ll ask for another angle.

Repairing versus replacing in Rain Shore

For damage in one or two places, a repair is the obvious choice. It costs far less than a new bath plus fitting, it’s done in one visit, and the bathroom stays exactly as it is. Repairs from £95, with every job priced individually. A repair usually costs much less than people expect, particularly next to the cost of replacement. Send pictures and we’ll give you the exact figure.

Why choose Surface Doctor in Rain Shore

How to look after the repair

Looking after the surface is easy:

  • Get a dripping tap fixed promptly
  • Clean with warm water and a mild detergent
  • Protect the bath with a towel when doing jobs nearby
  • If an acrylic bath flexes, have its feet adjusted

Use gentle, non-abrasive cleaners and avoid dropping heavy items on the repaired area. Deal with new chips early, before rust can start.

Avoid standing in a cracked acrylic bath until it’s fixed. Every use opens the crack a little more, and it can start to leak underneath.

DIY repairs versus a professional job

A kit can be fine for a tiny mark out of sight. For damage in plain view, cracks, holes or rust, or coloured finishes, a professional repair is worth it.

If you’ve already tried a DIY fix, that is fine. We take the old repair out and do it properly, so it does not stop a professional repair. Just mention it when you send pictures, as it can add time.

What your bath is made of matters

Acrylic

Acrylic is light and warm to the touch, but it relies on good support. Repairs to cracks are reinforced from the back.

Cast iron

A cast iron bath is heavy enough that most people never want to move it. The enamel is the part that wears or chips, and that’s the part we put right.

What happens on the day

From the moment we arrive, we keep the work contained to the one room. We mask off everything nearby, the job takes a few hours, and we finish with a tidy-up and a look at the finished work together.

  1. Dust sheets and masking go down around the bath.
  2. We clean, key and degrease the damage, and any rust is treated.
  3. Filler goes in and is sanded flush once it has set.
  4. Colour and gloss are matched to the surrounding surface.
  5. We tidy up and tell you when the bath can be used, typically the day after.

How to prepare

  • Clear the area around the damage
  • Mention if the room is upstairs or in a flat
  • Keep children and pets away from the room on the day

  • Scuffs and scratches in the surface
  • Chips caused by builders
  • A kit repair that didn’t last
  • Chips along the edge of the bath

  • Who will actually do the work
  • What happens if the damage is worse than the pictures show
  • Whether the price is fixed and includes VAT
  • Whether the price covers travel
