About bath repair in OL12

A damaged bath doesn’t have to mean a new bathroom. Our repair technicians fill, shape and refinish the damage, mixing the colour on the day. Common call-outs are for a chip where the taps sit and damage done while the bathroom was being fitted, in cast iron enamel, roll-top & freestanding and pressed steel enamel.

There is not much you need to do on the day. Let us in and show us the room, and we will take it from there. The job generally runs to a few hours, including clearing up.

  1. First, we check the damage against your pictures and agree the plan.
  2. Any rust and loose material comes out, and the area is degreased.
  3. The damage is filled in layers and shaped to the curve of the bath.
  4. The colour is tinted by hand until it matches.
  5. The repair is polished to the same gloss as the bath and left to cure.

Pricing in OL12

Our bath repair starts from £95. A few things move the price: access, material, the extent of the damage and whether we can do several items together. Photos let us give you a fixed figure.

Honest limits

Not everything can be repaired, and we’d rather say so up front. We cannot fix:

  • Rust that has eaten right through a steel bath
  • Cracks in acrylic we cannot reach from underneath
  • Water coming from the waste or taps rather than the bath

Common problems we fix in OL12

Most bath damage comes from something dropped: bottles, shower heads, tiles and tools. On enamelled baths, a chip that reaches the metal lets water in, and rust follows.

People usually call us after spotting one of these:

  • Chips on the rim or sides
  • Scuffs and scratches in the surface
  • Chips caused by builders
  • A kit repair that didn’t last

Repair or replace?

Swapping a damaged bath for a new one normally involves a plumber, lifting out the old bath, making good the tiles and panel and getting rid of the old bath. A repair deals only with the damage in one visit.

What your quote should include

  • Whether the colour is mixed to match
  • Whether cleaning and preparation are in the price
  • How the room is protected while they work
  • Aftercare advice

Different materials, different repairs

Pressed steel

Steel baths are lighter than cast iron, but have a similar enamel surface. Exposed steel rusts fast, particularly by the plughole, so repair chips early.

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are so heavy that repairing in place makes obvious sense. Only the enamel surface wears or chips, and that’s the part we put right.

Aftercare tips

Nothing complicated is needed, just a few sensible habits:

  • Protect the bath with a towel when doing jobs nearby
  • Rinse it down after each bath
  • Check that an acrylic bath does not move when you stand in it
  • Fix dripping taps early to stop staining and limescale

There’s nothing special to do after a repair, just sensible cleaning. Avoid bleach-based and gritty cleaners and rinse after use.

Tape over a fresh chip or crack until it’s repaired, to keep water out. Take it off before we arrive.

FAQs for OL12

Is it safe with children and pets around?

We ask you to keep children and pets out of the room while we work and until it has cured. The rest of the house is unaffected.

I tried a repair kit. Can you fix it?

Regularly. We strip it out, deal with any rust and repair it again.

I rent my home. Can I book you?

Yes, though it’s best to check with your landlord first. Many landlords are happy for a repair to be arranged.

Do you work in OL12?

Yes, we do. We send a technician to OL12 for every job, with no extra charge for travel.

Is a holed acrylic bath repairable?

Normally, yes, if we can reach behind it. We back the hole, fill it and refinish the surface.

Will the price change on the day?

If we find something the photos didn’t show, we explain it first. The price only changes if you agree.

What information do you need?

Some pictures, your postcode and how to reach you. On the day, we only need access to the room.
