Common problems we fix in Sanquhar

Nearly all the chips we see start with something being dropped: a shampoo bottle, a shower head, a tile or a tool during a refit. On enamelled baths, a chip that reaches the metal will start to rust.

Typical reasons for a call-out include:

  • Chips on the rim or sides
  • Impact holes in acrylic
  • A cracked acrylic bath
  • An old repair that has yellowed or come loose

Bath repair at your home in Sanquhar

Whatever the damage, the aim is the same: a repair that’s smooth, sound and hard to spot. We prepare the area properly, fill and shape it, then match the colour and gloss so it’s level with the surrounding surface. Typical jobs include a cracked acrylic bath and scuffs and scratches in the surface, across pressed steel enamel, whirlpool & spa baths and roll-top & freestanding.

We guarantee the work for a year. If something is not right in that time, we come back and put it right.

What your bath is made of matters

Acrylic

Acrylic feels warm and is light, but it needs firm support underneath. Repairs to cracks are reinforced from the back.

Cast iron

A cast iron bath is heavy enough that most people never want to move it. The enamel is the part that wears or chips, and that’s what we repair.

How we price bath repair

Repairs from £95. We do not charge extra for travel to Sanquhar. The price comes down to:

  • Where the damage is and how we get to it
  • Unusual colours or finishes
  • Whether we combine several jobs
  • The type of damage

The price depends on the type and amount of damage, what it’s made of and how many jobs we combine into one visit. You get a fixed price from your photos, so there are no surprises on the day.

Getting a price from photos

The better the pictures, the more accurate the price. Here’s what we find most useful:

  • Details of any past repairs
  • What it’s made of, if you know
  • A coin beside the damage so we can judge size
  • Daylight if possible, and no flash reflection

The quickest way to a price is to send two or three pictures through our quote form or ring us. We’ll say straight away if a repair is the right fix.

Looking after it afterwards

It’s all simple stuff, just a few sensible habits:

  • Keep abrasive pads and gritty cleaners away from the bath
  • Rinse the bath after use, especially in hard water areas
  • Stick to mild cleaners and a soft cloth
  • Check that an acrylic bath doesn’t move when you stand in it

For the first few days, keep heavy bottles off the repaired spot. After that, normal gentle cleaning is fine, avoiding abrasives.

A chip on a metal bath shouldn’t be left. Water gets to the metal and rust starts, and a rust spot is a bigger repair than a clean chip.

How the visit works

We turn up at the time we agreed with you, introduces themselves and looks over the damage before anything else. Dust sheets and masking tape go down before any work starts. Most visits take two to three hours for most chips, and we leave the room as we found it.

  1. Dust sheets and masking go down around the bath.
  2. We clean, key and degrease the damage.
  3. Filler goes in and is sanded flush once it has set.
  4. Colour and gloss are matched to the surrounding surface.
  5. We tidy up and tell you when the bath can be used, typically the next day.

Preparing for the visit

  • Tell us if there are stairs or a lift
  • Move bottles, mats and clutter away from the area
  • Mention any parking restrictions or tricky access

No survey visit is needed: we price from pictures. Send them through the quote form, or call 0345 017 0787 if you’d rather talk it through.

Advice

Should you replace it?

Many people think a damaged bath means a new one. In most cases it doesn’t: a proper repair gives it years more use, without the cost and upheaval of replacing it. Prices start from £95. A repair is priced on what needs doing, not where you live. You’ll see the full price before you book, with no extras added later.

Why us?

  • Fixed prices from your pictures
  • Honest advice, even when it means no job
  • No extra charge for your area
  • Rooms protected and left tidy

See our pricing or guide to resurfacing and replacement costs.

Honest limits

We will not take on work that won’t last, so here’s what a repair can’t put right:

  • A bath that flexes because its feet or cradle have failed (that needs fixing first)
  • Water coming from the waste or taps rather than the bath
  • Wear across the entire surface, which needs re-enamelling

Not sure? Send pictures and we’ll give you a straight answer.

Sanquhar: your questions answered

Are you a vetted contractor?

We hold CHAS, Constructionline, SafeContractor, SMAS Worksafe and Builder’s Profile accreditations.

Is a cracked acrylic bath repairable?

In most cases. We reinforce the crack from behind, then fill and refinish the front, so we need access under the bath.

Is repairing better than replacing?

In most cases, yes. Replacement brings removal, refitting and making good, which a repair avoids. We will be honest if it’s not worth it.

Do you cover the whole of Dumfries and Galloway?

We work UK-wide, so Sanquhar is covered. Our prices are the same everywhere.

Can landlords book you?

Yes. We carry out repairs for homeowners, landlords, letting agents, builders and businesses across Dumfries and Galloway.

Will I be able to see the repair?

On a bath in good condition, a colour-matched repair is very hard to spot. On older, dull enamel the repair can look glossier than the area around it.

What do you need from me?

Some pictures, your postcode and how to reach you. On the day, we only need access to the room.

Can you repair something that’s been repaired before?

Typically, yes. The old repair comes out first, so let us know about it.

Can I fix it myself?

We understand the appeal of fixing it yourself. The risk is that a kit repair hides the damage for a while, then fails, and then the old filler has to be removed first.

Kits are cheap and easy to find, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Doing it properly first is usually the cheaper route.
