Bath repair near Shandon

About our bath repair in Shandon

It pays to repair bath damage while it’s small. Exposed metal on enamelled baths soon rusts, while cracks in acrylic grow each time the bath moves. A repair stops both. Common call-outs are for a chip where the taps sit and rusty patches near the plughole, on cast iron enamel, whirlpool & spa baths and pressed steel enamel.

Big or small, it’s backed by a one-year guarantee in Shandon and across Argyll and Bute.

Repairs by material

Pressed steel

Pressed steel is thinner and lighter, with an enamel finish like cast iron. Chips rust quickly on steel, particularly by the plughole, so repair chips early.

Acrylic

Acrylic is light and warm to the touch, but it needs firm support underneath. Cracks are strengthened from behind before the front is finished.

What a repair can’t fix

Some problems need a builder, plumber or fitter rather than us:

  • A bath that moves underfoot, until its support is fixed
  • A steel bath rusted through
  • Water coming from the waste or taps rather than the bath

If in doubt, send pictures and we’ll say what we think.

Materials we work on in Shandon

  • Roll-top & freestanding
  • Cast iron enamel
  • Pressed steel enamel
  • Whirlpool & spa baths
  • Acrylic

Looking after it afterwards

Once the work has cured, treat it gently:

  • Fix dripping taps early to stop staining and limescale
  • Do not leave a fresh chip for long
  • Clean with warm water and a mild detergent
  • Keep abrasive pads and gritty cleaners away from the bath

In the first few days, avoid putting weight or bottles on the repair. After that, clean it as you would the rest of the bath, avoiding abrasives.

Rust under enamel spreads surprisingly quickly. A chip the size of a fingernail can become a much larger patch if it’s left for months, so early repair keeps the cost down.

Why repair rather than replace?

A new bath brings a chain of other jobs: tiles along the rim usually crack when it comes out, a new panel is frequently needed, and the plumbing has to be disconnected and refitted. Repairing the damage avoids all of that. Repairs from £95, with every job priced individually. The price reflects the work involved, not where you live. You’ll see the full price before booking.

Should I try a DIY kit first?

A DIY attempt is not a disaster. We remove the old filler and start again, so it will not stop us repairing it. It does add a little time, so tell us about it when you send photos.

For a hairline mark somewhere you’ll never see, a kit may be enough. For anything you look at every day, anything that has rusted, cracked or holed, or anything on a coloured surface, a professional repair is worth it.

How the visit works

From the moment we arrive, the aim is to do the job without disturbing the rest of your home. Surfaces nearby are masked off, the work takes a morning or an afternoon, and we finish by cleaning up and talking you through the result.

  1. Dust sheets and masking go down around the bath.
  2. We clean, key and degrease the damage.
  3. We fill it, let it set, then sand it flush.
  4. Colour and gloss are matched to the surrounding surface.
  5. We tidy up and tell you when the bath can be used, usually the following day.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Plan for the room to be out of bounds to pets and children
  • Let us know which floor the room is on
  • Move bottles, mats and clutter away from the area

Getting a price

You do not need a survey visit. Photos are enough for us to price nearly every job: send a close-up, a wider shot and your postcode, and we will reply with a fixed price.
