Bath repair near Skelton

Repairs by material

Composite and resin

Composite baths are dense and solid, and often freestanding. Chips and scratches are filled and matched, just like other baths.

Acrylic

An acrylic bath is a moulded sheet strengthened from below. They don’t rust, but they can crack, scratch or be holed, and a crack only stays repaired if it’s supported underneath.

About our bath repair in Skelton

A repair fixes just the damaged area and blends it into the rest of the bath, which is far cheaper than replacing a fitted bath and the tiles around it. Most baths can be used again the next day. Common call-outs are for snagging damage from a refit and cracks in an acrylic bath, across pressed steel enamel, roll-top & freestanding and whirlpool & spa baths.

We guarantee the work for a year. If there is a problem with the repair within the year, we return and sort it.

Common questions in Skelton

Can pets and children be at home?

Yes, as long as they stay out of the room we’re working in. We will tell you when the room can be used again.

Do you cover the whole of North Yorkshire?

We work UK-wide. Our prices are the same everywhere.

What does bath repair cost?

Prices start from £95. Every job gets a fixed quote based on photos of the damage. Send a close-up of the damage and a wider photo and your postcode.

Is my repair covered?

Yes, for a year. If there’s a problem with the work in that time, we come back and put it right.

Is a holed acrylic bath repairable?

Often, if there is access underneath. The hole is backed, filled and refinished to match.

Will you leave a mess?

Dust sheets and masking go down before we start, and tidy up before we leave.

How soon can you come?

We’ll give you dates with your quote. Tell us if you need it done quickly.

How long does the repair take to cure?

Normally within a day, though it depends on what we have done.

What a repair cannot fix

A repair isn’t right for every job, including:

  • Cracks in acrylic we can’t reach from underneath
  • Rust that has eaten right through a steel bath
  • Wear across the entire surface, which needs re-enamelling

If in doubt, send photos and we’ll say what we think.

What we work on

  • Roll-top & freestanding
  • Acrylic
  • Whirlpool & spa baths
  • Pressed steel enamel
  • Cast iron enamel

Repair or replace: which is better?

If the rest of the bath is in good condition, a repair is almost always the better choice. It costs less, takes less time and causes far less upheaval, and you keep the bath you chose. Where the entire surface is tired, we may suggest re-enamelling instead. Prices start from £95. No two jobs are quite the same, so each one is priced on its own. What’s damaged, how badly and how easy it is to reach all play a part, and combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down.

Can I fix it myself?

We understand the appeal of fixing it yourself. The risk is that a kit repair hides the damage for a while, then fails, and then the old filler has to be removed first.

A kit can be fine for a tiny mark out of sight. For anything you look at every day, anything that has rusted, cracked or holed, or anything on a coloured surface, it’s worth having it done properly.

What happens on the day

Here’s how a visit normally runs: we arrive at the agreed slot, protect everything around the work area, do the job and tidy away. Allow two to three hours for most chips from start to finish. Before we go, we will explain when it can be used and what to avoid for the first few days.

  1. Dust sheets and masking go down around the bath.
  2. The damaged area is cleaned, keyed and degreased.
  3. We fill it, let it set, then sand it flush.
  4. Colour and gloss are matched to the surrounding surface.
  5. We clear up and give you the curing time, normally until the following day.

Before we arrive

  • Keep a parking space free if you can
  • Ensure the room can be ventilated
  • Let us know if it has been repaired before

Advice

Keeping it looking good

Much of the damage we repair could have been avoided. A few tips:

  • Avoid scourers, wire wool and gritty cream cleaners
  • Put a towel in the bath if you’re working above it
  • Have new chips seen to early
  • Rinse the bath after use, especially in hard water areas

There is nothing special to do after a repair. Skip bleach and gritty creams.

If an acrylic bath has a crack, stop showering in it until it’s repaired. Each time it flexes, the crack grows, and water can get through to the floor below.

Common problems we fix in Skelton

A bath gets knocked about more than you’d think: bottles, shower heads and razors are dropped every day, and taps and wastes are tightened against the surface. Sooner or later, most baths pick up a chip.

Keep an eye out for these signs:

  • Chips caused by builders
  • Deep scratches in acrylic
  • Rusty patches near the plughole
  • A hole punched through by something heavy
