Bath repair in Springfield

How we handle bath repair in Springfield

A damaged bath does not have to mean a new bathroom. Our repair technicians fill, shape and refinish the damage, mixing the colour on the day so the repair is hard to spot. Whether it’s chips caused by builders and a kit repair that didn’t last, we can help, whatever the material.

The work is covered for a year after we finish. If anything is not right, ring us and we will sort it.

Why repair rather than replace?

If the rest of the bath is in good condition, a repair is almost always the better choice. It’s quicker, cheaper and far less disruptive, and you keep the bath you chose. If the entire surface is worn, re-enamelling may make more sense, and we will tell you. Our bath repair starts from £95. Compared with replacing, a repair is generally a fraction of the price, because nothing has to be taken out, refitted or made good. The quote lists exactly what you’re paying for.

The process

Your technician turns up at the time we agreed with you, introduces themselves and checks the damage against your pictures first. The floor and nearby surfaces are covered before we open a single tin. Most visits take a few hours, depending on the damage, and the room is left clean and tidy.

  1. We start by looking at the damage and confirming the plan with you.
  2. Loose enamel, rust and dirt are removed so the repair can bond.
  3. The damage is filled in layers and shaped to the curve of the bath.
  4. We tint the finish by hand to match the bath.
  5. The repair is polished to the same gloss as the bath and left to cure.

Questions from Springfield

How long before I can use the bath?

Normally within a day, though it depends on what we have done.

Are you a vetted contractor?

We are accredited with CHAS, Constructionline, SafeContractor, SMAS Worksafe and Builder’s Profile.

I’m a tenant. Can you help?

Yes. Ask your landlord first, and we can send them the quote if that helps.

Can rust on a bath be repaired?

Yes. We take out the rust and any loose enamel, fill the area, then colour-match the finish.

Does someone need to be in?

Yes. We need access to the room while we work, at a time we agree with you.

Can pets and children be at home?

Just keep them out of the work area. We will let you know when it’s safe to use again.

Can you repair something that is been repaired before?

Yes, regularly. It can add a little time, which we include in the quote.

Will I be able to see the repair?

We aim for a repair you can’t easily find. The rest of the bath’s condition makes a difference.

What we can’t put right

It helps to know what we cannot do:

  • Wear across the entire surface, which needs re-enamelling
  • Cracks in acrylic we can’t reach from underneath
  • A bath that moves underfoot, until its support is fixed

Send us photos and we will tell you honestly.

What we work on

  • Cast iron enamel
  • Roll-top & freestanding
  • Pressed steel enamel
  • Whirlpool & spa baths
  • Acrylic

Work for landlords and builders

We also carry out snagging repairs for builders and developers, fixing chips and scratches before handover so nothing needs replacing. We hold CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor accreditations.

Landlords, letting agents and housing providers in Springfield use us as well as householders. A repair between tenants keeps the property empty for less time, and it usually costs far less than a refit.

Looking after it afterwards

Much of the damage we repair could have been avoided. A few tips:

  • Rinse the bath after use, especially in hard water areas
  • Put a towel in the bath if you are working above it
  • Check that an acrylic bath does not move when you stand in it
  • Do not scrub with anything abrasive

In the first few days, avoid putting weight or bottles on the repair. After that, normal gentle cleaning is fine, avoiding abrasives.

Avoid standing in a cracked acrylic bath until it’s fixed. Each time it flexes, the crack grows, and it can start to leak underneath.

Repairs by material

Pressed steel

Pressed steel is thinner and lighter, with an enamel finish like cast iron. Exposed steel rusts fast, particularly by the plughole, so early repairs matter.

Acrylic

Acrylic is light and warm to the touch, but it relies on good support. Repairs to cracks are reinforced from the back.

Should I try a DIY kit first?

If you are set on a kit, follow its instructions closely, make sure the area is clean and completely dry, and give it the full curing time. If it does not work out, we can still repair it properly.

Kits are cheap and easy to find, but the repairs we redo most frequently are DIY ones that have discoloured or lifted. Getting it right first time is usually cheaper.

What we are called out for in Springfield

A bath gets knocked about more than you’d think: bottles, shower heads and razors are dropped every day, and fittings press hard against the enamel. Sooner or later, most baths pick up a chip.

Contact us if you’ve noticed any of these:

  • Holes from dropped items
  • Damage beneath the taps
  • A failed DIY repair that is discoloured or lifting
  • Damage done while the bathroom was being fitted
