Bath repair in Spurtree

Spurtree: your questions answered

Is there any odour?

Some materials have a smell while they’re applied. It fades as everything cures.

I’m a tenant. Can you help?

Yes, though it’s best to check with your landlord first. Many landlords are happy for a repair to be arranged.

How soon can you come?

It depends on the time of year and where you are. Send photos with your postcode and we will reply with the earliest dates.

Do I need to be at home?

Yes. We need access to the room while we work, at a time we agree with you.

Can you repair a failed DIY repair?

Yes. We remove the old filler and start again. Tell us about it when you send pictures.

Do you do work for letting agents?

Yes. We work for landlords, agents, builders and businesses as well as homeowners.

Can you redo someone else’s repair?

Most of the time. Tell us what was done before and we will plan for it.

Do you come to Spurtree?

Yes. We cover the entire UK and come to Spurtree and the rest of Worcestershire. Send us photos for a fixed quote, or call 0345 017 0787.

About our bath repair in Spurtree

A repair fixes just the damaged area and blends it into the rest of the bath, which costs far less than replacing a fitted bath. Most baths can be used again the following day. Whether it’s chips caused by builders and scuffs and scratches in the surface, we can usually put it right, whatever the material.

A one-year guarantee comes with the work, just as it does everywhere we cover.

Honest limits

A repair is not always the answer, and we’ll tell you before we start. Repairs will not solve:

  • Leaks from the waste or overflow fittings (a plumber’s job)
  • A whole bath that’s dull or worn, where a full re-enamel is the better fix
  • Metal that has corroded all the way through

If in doubt, send pictures and we will say what we think.

Surfaces we repair

  • Whirlpool & spa baths
  • Pressed steel enamel
  • Roll-top & freestanding
  • Cast iron enamel
  • Acrylic

DIY kit or professional repair?

If you do try a kit, read the instructions carefully, make sure the area is clean and completely dry, and give it the full curing time. If it does not work out, we can still repair it properly.

The difference between a kit and a professional repair is mostly in the preparation and colour. We prepare the area properly, mix the colour on site and polish the finish to match, then guarantee it for a year.

What bath repair costs

Prices start from £95. There is no area surcharge for Spurtree. The price reflects:

  • The material
  • The colour and finish to match
  • Whether old repairs or coatings need taking off
  • Where the damage is and how we get to it

It helps to know what pushes a price up or down: access, material, the extent of the damage and whether we can do several items together. Send photos and you will get a fixed figure.

Quotes from your photos

It only takes a minute to photograph the damage, and it saves a visit. Please include:

  • A coin beside the damage so we can judge size
  • Whether it’s been repaired or coated before
  • Good light, ideally daylight, without flash glare
  • A wider photo showing the whole bath

Send us a photo of the damage and a wider shot of the whole item, and tell us you’re in Spurtree, and we will reply with a fixed quote.

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Acrylic

Acrylic baths are moulded sheet reinforced underneath. They do not rust, but they can crack, scratch or be holed, and cracks need support from behind to stay fixed.

Pressed steel

Under the enamel of a steel bath is thin metal. Exposed steel rusts quickly, so the metal is treated and sealed before the repair.

Signs you need bath repair in Spurtree

Rust normally starts where water sits, by the plughole, beneath dripping taps or in an unrepaired chip. Water on bare metal causes rust that creeps under the surrounding enamel.

You may need us if you’ve spotted any of these:

  • Rusty patches near the plughole
  • Chips on the rim or sides
  • A hole punched through by something heavy
  • Damage done while the bathroom was being fitted

Comparing quotes

  • The length of the guarantee and what it covers
  • What aftercare is recommended
  • Whether cleaning and preparation are in the price

Our hiring checklist

Work for landlords and builders

We also carry out snagging repairs for builders and developers, putting right damage done during fitting so nothing needs replacing. We hold CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor accreditations.

Builders use us to fix snagging damage before handover, so there’s no need to replace a damaged item at the last minute. We can visit several plots in one trip to keep costs down.

Should you replace it?

Cast iron baths in particular are worth repairing: they’re very heavy to remove, especially upstairs, and a like-for-like replacement can be expensive. Repairing it leaves it where it is. Prices start from £95. A repair normally costs much less than people expect, especially compared with replacing and refitting. Send photos and we will give you the exact figure.

What happens on the day

We work cleanly and quietly, so you can stay at home while we are there. Protection goes down first, then the job itself takes two to three hours for most chips. Before we leave, we explain the curing time and the aftercare.

  1. Dust sheets and masking go down around the bath.
  2. We clean, key and degrease the damage, and any rust is treated.
  3. We fill it, let it set, then sand it flush.
  4. Colour and gloss are matched to the surrounding surface.
  5. We tidy up and tell you when the bath can be used, generally the next day.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Tell us about any previous repairs or coatings
  • Move bottles, mats and clutter away from the area
  • Keep children and pets away from the room on the day
