Bath repair in St Erme

Looking after it afterwards

To keep it looking its best for years:

  • Cover the bath during DIY or decorating
  • A dripping tap stains enamel, so fix it early
  • Do not leave razors or cans standing in the bath
  • Check that an acrylic bath doesn’t move when you stand in it

Clean with mild, non-abrasive cleaners and avoid dropping heavy items on the repaired area. Deal with new chips early, before rust sets in.

Rust spreads under enamel faster than most people expect. Left for months, a small chip can grow into a large rust patch, so it pays to deal with it early.

Bath repair in St Erme without replacing anything

Small damage on a bath is worth repairing early. Exposed metal on enamelled baths soon rusts, while cracks in acrylic grow each time the bath moves. Repairing it stops the damage getting worse. We’re often asked to fix rust by the waste and overflow and a chipped rim or side, in cast iron enamel, acrylic and pressed steel enamel.

Every repair is covered by a one-year guarantee, wherever you are in Cornwall.

St Erme: your questions answered

It’s been repaired before. Can you still fix it?

Yes, we frequently do. Removing the old work can add time, and that is in the quote.

Do you work in St Erme?

Yes, we do. Technicians travel to St Erme from across the region, with no extra charge for travel.

Do the materials smell?

Some materials have a smell while they’re applied, which is why we ventilate. It clears as the materials cure.

Is a cracked acrylic bath repairable?

Generally, yes, if we can reach the underside to reinforce it. Take off the bath panel and check, or send us a picture.

Can I get a quote without a visit?

Yes, almost always. A close-up and a wider photo are enough to give a fixed quote.

Do you repair coloured baths?

Yes, coloured baths are no problem. We tint the finish to your bath on site.

What happens once I’ve sent photos?

You’ll get a fixed quote back. You are under no obligation.

Can you do more than one item on the same visit?

Yes, and it’s frequently cheaper. Just add the extra items to your photos and we’ll quote them together.

Repairing versus replacing in St Erme

A new bath costs more than the bath itself: taking out the old one, plumbing, tiling, a panel and redecorating. A repair is one job, done in one visit. Prices start from £95. We do not add extras on the day. The price we quote from your photos is the price you pay, and if the damage turns out to be different, we discuss it before starting.

DIY kit or professional repair?

For a hairline mark somewhere you will never see, a kit may be enough. For anything you look at every day, anything that has rusted, cracked or holed, or anything on a coloured surface, a professional repair is worth it.

Kits are cheap and easy to find, but the repairs we redo most often are DIY ones that have discoloured or lifted. Getting it right first time is usually cheaper.

Landlord and trade work in St Erme

If you manage property in St Erme, we can repair and quote for several addresses together. Send photos for each one and we’ll price them together.

Rental properties take more wear, and replacing items every time a tenant leaves is expensive. A repair between tenancies is a cheaper way to keep the property in good order.

What we do, step by step

When we visit, the technician arrives at the agreed time, protects the room with dust sheets and masking and gets started. The job generally takes a morning or an afternoon. We clean up when we are done and tell you when it’s ready to use.

  1. We start by cleaning the damage and taking out loose enamel and rust.
  2. We fill the damage and sand it flush with the surrounding surface.
  3. We tint the finish on the day to suit your bath’s shade of white or colour.
  4. We build up the finish and polish it into the surrounding enamel.
  5. We leave it to cure; you can normally use the bath the following day.

Preparing for the visit

  • Plan for the room to be out of bounds to pets and children
  • Make sure the area is dry
  • Tell us if there are stairs or a lift

Ask for a price

We price from pictures so you do not have to wait in for a survey. Use the quote form, or ring 0345 017 0787 to talk it through, and we’ll come back with a fixed figure.

Advice

Common problems we fix in St Erme

Many chips happen while the bathroom is being fitted. Tools, tiles and fittings get dropped into the bath, and the damage is not always spotted until later. Snagging repairs like these are a regular job for us.

If you can see any of these, send us a photo:

  • Damage beneath the taps
  • Snagging damage from a refit
  • Scratches you can feel with a fingernail
  • Rust spots around the plughole

What your quote should include

  • Whether the price covers travel
  • What happens if the damage is worse than the pictures show
  • How the room is protected while they work
  • How to look after the finish

10 questions to ask before you book

Prices and what affects them

Repairs from £95. Prices are worked out job by job. What matters most is:

  • What the surface is made of
  • Whether it’s a chip, crack, burn or wear
  • Where the damage is and how we get to it
  • How much damage there is

Set against the cost of replacement, repairing generally costs far less, because there is no removal, plumbing or making good. The quote lists exactly what you’re paying for.

Getting a price from pictures

Photographing the damage takes a minute, and it saves a visit. Please include:

  • Any details about the material
  • Where you are, by postcode
  • A wider photo showing the entire bath
  • Natural light rather than flash

You don’t need a survey visit. Photos are enough for us to price nearly every job: send a close-up, a wider shot and your postcode, and we’ll come back to you with a fixed figure.

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Pressed steel

Under the enamel of a steel bath is thin metal. Once a chip exposes it, rust follows quickly, so the metal is treated and sealed before the repair.

Cast iron

Cast iron is heavy and rigid, with a fused enamel surface. A chip down to the iron can rust, but the body of the bath lasts a very long time, which makes it well worth repairing.
