Different materials, different repairs

Acrylic

Acrylic feels warm and is light, but it needs firm support underneath. Cracks are strengthened from behind before the front is finished.

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are thick and very strong, finished with fired enamel. Chips can rust if left, but the bath itself lasts for generations, so it’s always worth repairing.

About our bath repair in Staveley

Repairing baths is what we do most. A chip by the taps, a crack in the base and a rust spot by the plughole are all fixed without removing the bath, normally in one visit. We’re frequently asked to fix chips along the edge of the bath and chips caused by builders, in roll-top & freestanding, whirlpool & spa baths and acrylic.

Big or small, you get the same one-year guarantee.

Staveley questions

When can you do it?

Your quote comes with available dates. Tell us if you need it done quickly.

Can you repair a failed DIY repair?

Yes. We take out the old repair and do it properly. Tell us about it when you send photos.

I’m a tenant. Can you help?

We can work for tenants, landlords or agents. Get your landlord’s agreement first.

What information do you need?

Send pictures through the quote form or call 0345 017 0787, and we’ll take it from there.

Do you repair coloured baths?

Yes. We mix the colour on the day to match, including pastel and older colours.

Does someone need to be in?

We need someone to let us in. After that, you can carry on with your day.

Can you redo someone else’s repair?

Most of the time. Let us know what was used before.

Do you do work for letting agents?

Yes. We work for landlords, agents, builders and businesses as well as householders in Staveley.

DIY repairs versus a professional job

The difference between a kit and a professional repair is mostly in the preparation and colour. We clean and key the area properly, mix the colour to your surface and finish it to the same sheen, then guarantee it for a year.

We understand the appeal of fixing it yourself. The trouble is that kit repairs frequently look fine at first and then fail, and the old filler has to come out before a proper repair.

Should you replace it?

Swapping a damaged bath for a new one typically means a plumber, removing the old bath, making good the tiles and panel and getting rid of the old bath. Repairing it deals only with the damage in a single visit. Prices start from £95. The price depends on the type and amount of damage, what it’s made of and how many items we do on one visit. We give a fixed quote from your photos, so you know the cost before you book.

Why Staveley clients choose us

  • A year’s guarantee on all work
  • One price list for the entire UK
  • Typically one visit, start to finish
  • Dust sheets down, tidy finish

Looking after it afterwards

Most damage we see is avoidable. A few tips:

  • Stick to mild cleaners and a soft cloth
  • Give the bath a quick rinse after use
  • Cover the bath during DIY or decorating
  • Check that an acrylic bath doesn’t move when you stand in it

Keep metal objects like razors and cans off the surface, because they can mark the enamel. A dripping tap should be fixed early, too.

Until we visit, a strip of waterproof tape over the damage helps, so water cannot get in. Take it off before we arrive.

When a repair is not the answer

In fairness, there are a few things a repair will not fix:

  • Leaking fittings, which need a plumber
  • A bath worn all over, where resurfacing makes more sense
  • Rust that has eaten right through a steel bath

Not sure? Send pictures and we’ll give you a straight answer.

What we work on

  • Roll-top & freestanding
  • Acrylic
  • Whirlpool & spa baths
  • Pressed steel enamel
  • Cast iron enamel

How the visit works

We begin by going over the job with you. Then the area is sheeted and masked and we start. Allow two to three hours for most chips, and we will tell you if anything changes.

  1. We protect the bath and the floor around it.
  2. The damaged area is cleaned, keyed and degreased, and any rust is treated.
  3. We fill it, let it set, then sand it flush.
  4. We match both the colour and the shine.
  5. We tidy up and tell you when the bath can be used, usually the next day.

How to prepare

  • Make sure the area is dry
  • Let us know about parking or access
  • Clear toiletries, mats and anything else from around the area
