Bath repair in Strines

Bath repair in Strines without replacing anything

Bath repair is our most common job. A chip by the taps, a crack in the base and a rust spot by the plughole are all fixed without removing the bath, normally in a single visit. Whether it’s damage beneath the taps and chips along the edge of the bath, we can generally put it right, whatever the material.

Whatever the size of the job, you get the same one-year guarantee.

Why repair rather than replace?

When the bath is otherwise sound, repairing beats replacing. It costs less, takes less time and causes far less upheaval, and you keep the bath you chose. Where the entire surface is tired, we may suggest re-enamelling instead. Our bath repair starts from £95. Instead of hourly rates, we fix the price before we start. Damage, material and access decide it, and doing several items at once reduces it.

The process

On the day itself, there’s little for you to do. Show us the job, point us to the room, and we’ll take it from there. Most visits take two to three hours for most chips, including clearing up.

  1. We start by cleaning the damage and taking out loose enamel and rust.
  2. We fill the damage and sand it flush with the surrounding surface.
  3. We tint the finish on the day to suit your bath’s shade of white or colour.
  4. We build up the finish and polish it into the surrounding enamel.
  5. The repair is left to cure, and most baths can be used the following day.

Before we arrive

  • Open a window if you can
  • Mention any earlier repairs or resurfacing

Related advice

Work for landlords and builders

We also carry out snagging repairs for builders and developers, putting right damage done during fitting so nothing needs replacing. We hold CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor accreditations.

Letting agents often send us photos straight from the inventory. You can have a price before you arrange access, and we can arrange access with the tenant directly if that helps.

Repairs by material

Pressed steel

Under the enamel of a steel bath is thin metal. Once a chip exposes it, rust follows quickly, so we treat and seal the metal before filling.

Composite and resin

Composite baths are dense and solid. Chips and scratches are filled and matched, just like other baths.

Should I try a DIY kit first?

It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The risk is that a kit repair hides the damage for a while, then fails, and the old filler has to come out before a proper repair.

If you’ve already tried a DIY fix, that’s fine. We take the old repair out and do it properly, so it won’t stop us repairing it. Just mention it when you send pictures, as it can add time.

Strines questions

I rent my home. Can I book you?

Of course. Ask your landlord first, and we can send them the quote if that helps.

Do you repair coloured baths?

Yes. The colour is mixed on site to suit your bath, including older coloured suites.

Is it messy?

Very little mess: we sheet and mask everything nearby, and we take our waste away with us.

What about rust by the waste?

Yes. We take out the rust and any loose enamel, seal and fill the area, then colour-match the finish.

How do I book?

Photos of the damage, a photo of the entire bath and your postcode. Then we’ll agree a date.

Will the repair show?

The goal is a repair that blends in. The rest of the bath’s condition makes a difference.

Is a bath repair permanent?

A properly prepared repair should last a long time, and ours come with a one-year guarantee. Gentle cleaning helps.

Do I have to be there?

Yes. We need access to the room while we work, at a time that suits you.

Honest limits

To be straight with you, there are a few things a repair won’t fix:

  • Leaking fittings, which need a plumber
  • Cracks in parts of an acrylic bath we can’t get to from below
  • A bath that flexes because its feet or cradle have failed (that needs fixing first)

Send us pictures and we’ll tell you honestly.

Aftercare tips

Simple care helps the repair last. We recommend:

  • Check that an acrylic bath does not move when you stand in it
  • Don’t scrub with anything abrasive
  • Put a towel in the bath if you are working above it
  • Use a soft cloth and washing-up liquid for everyday cleaning

In the first few days, avoid putting weight or bottles on the repair. After that, normal gentle cleaning is fine, avoiding abrasives.

If an acrylic bath has a crack, stop showering in it until it’s repaired. Every use opens the crack a little more, and water can get through to the floor below.

Common problems we fix in Strines

Baths take more knocks than people expect: everyday items get dropped into it all the time, and taps and wastes are tightened against the surface. Over time, chips and rust spots are almost inevitable.

Clients typically contact us about:

  • Chips caused by builders
  • Chips under the taps
  • Hairline or through cracks in acrylic
  • Chips along the edge of the bath

What to look for in a quote

  • Whether they match the colour on site
  • A fixed price, and whether VAT is included
  • What happens if they find more damage
  • What protection goes down before work starts
