Bath repair for The Castles homes

Bath repair at your home in The Castles

We repair enamelled steel, cast iron and acrylic baths. Each material is repaired a little differently: rust is treated on metal baths, while cracks in acrylic are reinforced from underneath. Whether it’s chips on the rim or sides and impact holes in acrylic, we can typically put it right, on roll-top & freestanding, acrylic and whirlpool & spa baths alike.

Every job is backed for twelve months in The Castles and everywhere else. We return to put right any problem with the work.

Rusty chip next to a bath plughole, before and after repair

Landlord and trade work in The Castles

Rented homes see more wear and tear, and replacing items every time a tenant leaves is expensive. A repair between tenancies is a cheaper way to keep the property in good order.

Letting agents often send us photos straight from the inventory. That means we can quote before you even visit the property, and we liaise with tenants about access if you’d like us to.

What we are called out for in The Castles

Many chips happen while the bathroom is being fitted. Tools, tiles and fittings get dropped into the bath, and the damage isn’t always spotted until later. We repair snagging damage like this regularly.

The most common problems we are called about are:

  • Chips along the edge of the bath
  • A kit repair that didn’t last
  • Rusty patches near the plughole
  • Damage done while the bathroom was being fitted

Honest limits

Some jobs are not right for a repair, for example:

  • Flexing caused by a failed cradle or loose feet
  • Water coming from the waste or taps rather than the bath
  • Metal that has corroded all the way through

If in doubt, send photos and we’ll say what we think.

DIY kit or professional repair?

It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The risk is that a kit repair hides the damage for a while, then fails, and the old filler has to come out before a proper repair.

Kits are cheap and easy to find, but the repairs we redo most often are DIY ones that have discoloured or lifted. Getting it right first time is normally cheaper.

What happens on the day

When we visit, we arrive at the time we’ve agreed, cover the area with dust sheets and masking, and set to work. The job normally takes a morning or an afternoon. We clean up when we’re done and let you know when you can use it again.

  1. We start by cleaning the damage and taking out loose enamel and rust.
  2. We fill the damage and sand it flush with the surrounding surface.
  3. We mix the colour on the day to match your bath’s exact shade.
  4. Finish coats go on, then the repair is polished to blend in.
  5. Once it has cured, normally by the next day, the bath is ready to use.

Before we arrive

  • Let us know about parking or access
  • Keep pets and children out of the room while we work
  • Clear toiletries, mats and anything else from around the area

Should you replace it?

Cast iron baths especially are worth keeping: getting one out, particularly from an upstairs bathroom, is a big job, and replacing like for like is not cheap. A repair keeps it in place. Prices start from £95. Compared with replacing, repairing normally costs far less, because there’s no removal, plumbing or making good. The quote lists exactly what you’re paying for.

What bath repair costs

Repairs from £95. We don’t charge extra for travel to The Castles. The price comes down to:

  • Whether old repairs or coatings need taking off
  • How much damage there is
  • How hard the colour is to match
  • How easy the damage is to reach

Our prices are the same across the UK, so there’s no premium for The Castles. What changes the price is the job itself: the material, the amount of damage and how many items.

Phone photos are fine. Just make sure we can see:

  • Any details about the material
  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit
  • A clear, close picture of the problem area
  • Whether it’s been repaired or coated before

The quickest way to a price is to send two or three photos through our quote form or call us. We will tell you honestly whether it can be repaired.

How to care for the repair

After the repair has cured, a few habits help it last:

  • Fix dripping taps early to stop staining and limescale
  • Clean with warm water and a mild detergent
  • Put a towel in the bath if you are working above it
  • Store metal items away from the bath

Look after the repair the same way as the bath: a soft cloth and washing-up liquid is all it needs. Avoid scourers and gritty cream cleaners.

Tape over a fresh chip or crack until it’s repaired, so water can’t get in. Remove it before the repair.
