Bath repair near The Hale

Bath repair in The Hale, done in place

We repair enamelled steel, cast iron and acrylic baths. Each material is repaired a little differently: rust is treated on metal baths, while cracks in acrylic are reinforced from underneath. We regularly repair roll-top & freestanding, acrylic and cast iron enamel, and the jobs we see most are chips under the taps and rust by the waste and overflow.

We guarantee the work for a year. If something is not right in that time, we come back and put it right.

Should I try a DIY kit first?

If you’re set on a kit, follow its instructions closely, make sure the area is clean and completely dry, and don’t use it until it has fully cured. If it does not work out, we can still repair it properly.

It’s tempting to reach for a kit, but the repairs we redo most frequently are DIY ones that have discoloured or lifted. Getting it right first time is generally cheaper.

When a repair isn’t the answer

To be straight with you, there are a few things a repair will not fix:

  • A whole bath that’s dull or worn, where a full re-enamel is the better fix
  • Acrylic cracks with no access behind them
  • Metal that has corroded all the way through

Not sure? Send pictures and we’ll give you a straight answer before booking.

Surfaces we repair

  • Pressed steel enamel
  • Cast iron enamel
  • Roll-top & freestanding
  • Acrylic
  • Whirlpool & spa baths

How it works

We turn up at the time we agreed with you and looks over the damage before anything else. The floor and nearby surfaces are covered before we open a single tin. The work itself takes a few hours, depending on the damage, and we leave the room as we found it.

  1. We clean the area and remove any loose enamel or rust.
  2. Next we fill the damage and sand it smooth and level.
  3. We mix the colour on the day to match your bath’s exact shade.
  4. Finish coats go on, then the repair is polished to blend in.
  5. Once it has cured, typically by the next day, the bath is ready to use.

How to prepare

  • Let us know if it has been repaired before
  • Clear the area around the damage
  • Plan for the room to be out of bounds to pets and children

Advice

What bath repair costs

Repairs from £95. Quotes are free and the price is fixed. What we take into account:

  • Previous DIY repairs that have to come out
  • How many areas need work
  • Access to the area
  • Whether we combine several jobs

No two jobs are quite the same, so we price each one individually. The size and type of damage, the material and access all make a difference, and doing several things on one visit costs less than separate visits.

Quotes from your photos

Almost every job we do is priced from pictures. This is what to send:

  • A clear, close picture of the problem area
  • One picture of the entire bath
  • Any earlier repairs or coatings
  • Something in shot to show the size

For a price in The Hale, the easiest route is photos: one close up, one from further back, plus your postcode. We reply with a fixed quote and our next available dates.

Your questions about bath repair in The Hale

Can you repair a hole in a bath?

Generally, yes, if we can reach behind it. We back the hole, fill it and refinish the surface.

10 questions to ask before you book

Keeping it looking good

How the surface is treated afterwards matters. Here’s what we suggest:

  • Use a soft cloth and washing-up liquid for everyday cleaning
  • Get a dripping tap fixed promptly
  • Give the bath a quick rinse after use
  • Don’t leave a fresh chip for long

A repaired bath needs no special treatment, just sensible cleaning. Avoid bleach-based and gritty cleaners and rinse after use.

If water is getting through a crack, stop using the bath. Water under the bath can damage the floor and the ceiling below.

Different materials, different repairs

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are so heavy that repairing in place makes obvious sense. The enamel is the part that wears or chips, and that’s the part we put right.

Pressed steel

Steel baths and trays have a thin metal body under the enamel. Once a chip exposes it, rust follows quickly, so we treat and seal the metal before filling.
