Bath re-enamelling for The Hale homes

Bath re-enamelling in The Hale, done in place

Resurfacing renews the whole surface of the bath without taking anything out. It suits baths that are dull, stained, rough or chipped all over. We work on basins & shower trays, pressed steel baths and Victorian roll-tops, and common reasons people get in touch are wear marks under the taps and a dull, rough surface that won’t come clean.

All of our repairs are guaranteed for twelve months in The Hale and everywhere else. We return to put right any problem with the work.

The Hale: your questions answered

Will you leave a mess?

No. The work area is masked and covered, and we take our waste away with us.

Can you price it without visiting?

In nearly every case. If pictures do not show enough, we will ask for another angle.

When can you do it?

That depends on our diary for your area. Send pictures with your postcode and we’ll reply with the earliest dates.

Will the new finish last?

It depends on preparation, use and care. With good preparation and gentle cleaning it lasts a long time, and it’s guaranteed for a year.

Which areas do you work in?

Everywhere in the UK, The Hale included. Travel is included in the price.

Is it safe with children and pets around?

On the day, the room should be kept clear of pets and children, so the repair isn’t disturbed while it cures.

Can you do the outside of a roll-top?

Yes, roll-tops are a big part of our work. The inside is resurfaced, and we can refinish the outside as well.

Can you do more than one item on the same visit?

Of course, and it generally saves money. Send pictures of everything together and we will quote them together.

Should you replace it?

Getting a cast iron bath out is hard work: they’re heavy, frequently need breaking up, and a new one is not cheap. Resurfacing in place avoids that entirely. Prices start from £350. What it costs depends on the type and amount of damage, the material and how many jobs we combine into one visit. We give a fixed quote from your pictures, so you know the cost before you book.

When to call us in The Hale

Enamel’s shine is only skin deep, and every scrub with an abrasive cleaner takes a little away. After years of use, the surface becomes porous and stains easily.

These are the problems we’re asked about most:

  • An outdated colour you’d like to change
  • Stains that will not shift
  • A bath that stays dull however much you clean it
  • An original cast iron bath that needs restoring

Questions to ask before you book

  • How the room is protected while they work
  • How long it needs to cure
  • Whether the price covers travel
  • Whether the price is fixed and includes VAT

10 questions to ask before you book

DIY repairs versus a professional job

If you are set on a kit, follow its instructions closely, and give it the full curing time. If it fails, we can still put it right.

It’s tempting to reach for a kit, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Getting it right first time is typically cheaper.

Prices and what affects them

Resurfacing from £350. Every quote is fixed and free. What we look at:

  • Whether it’s a chip, crack, burn or wear
  • The colour and finish to match
  • How many areas need work
  • Whether we combine several jobs

The price reflects the work involved, not your postcode. The full price is agreed before you book, with no extras added later.

Send pictures for a quote

Before you send pictures, a few simple things make all the difference:

  • Details of any past repairs
  • Natural light rather than flash
  • One sharp close-up of the damage
  • The material, if you know it

Upload pictures of the damage and a wider shot of the entire item, with your HA8 postcode, and we will reply with a fixed quote.

How to look after the repair

Nothing complicated is needed, just a few sensible habits:

  • A quick wipe after use keeps limescale away
  • Keep toiletries on a shelf rather than in the bath
  • Keep suction mats out of the bath
  • A dripping tap should be fixed promptly

Stick to mild, non-abrasive cleaners, avoid suction bath mats, and do not leave bottles or razors standing on the surface.

Rust spots on a worn bath get worse with time and make the job bigger. Resurfacing before they spread keeps it simpler.

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are so heavy that repairing in place makes obvious sense. Only the enamel surface wears or chips, and that’s the part we put right.

Acrylic

We resurface acrylic baths as well, with a coating system suited to acrylic. It must be solid and not flex underfoot.

The process

It’s a tidy, low-fuss visit. We confirm the time with you beforehand, protect the area, then carry out the work, which normally takes the best part of a day. If anything looks different from your pictures, we’ll talk to you before going ahead.

  1. We mask and protect the room and ventilate it.
  2. We clean and degrease the bath and repair any chips or rust.
  3. We prepare the surface and apply a bonding primer.
  4. We spray on the new enamel finish in several coats.
  5. Once cured, normally by the next day, the bath is ready.

How to prepare

  • Move bottles, mats and clutter away from the area
  • Mention if the room is upstairs or in a flat
  • Let the surface dry out before the visit
