FAQs for The Stocks
Are you a vetted contractor?
We hold CHAS, Constructionline, SafeContractor, SMAS Worksafe and Builder’s Profile accreditations.
What happens next?
We look at the pictures and reply with a fixed quote and some dates. If we need another angle, we will ask.
What happens if you find more damage?
Your quote covers the damage in the pictures. Anything extra is discussed before we begin.
Will the repair show?
On a glossy bath, you will struggle to find it. On worn enamel, it can look shinier than the rest.
Will it make a mess?
Dust sheets and masking go down before we start, and tidy up before we leave.
Do you do work for letting agents?
Yes, frequently. We can quote for several properties together and work between tenancies.
Can you fix rust around the plughole?
Yes, very often. We take it back to sound metal, seal it, fill it and match the colour.
Can you quote from photos?
Nearly always. If pictures don’t show enough, we will ask for another angle.
How we handle bath repair in The Stocks
A damaged bath doesn’t have to mean a new bathroom. We fill the damage, shape it to the curve of the bath and refinish it, with the colour mixed on site so the repair is hard to spot. Our technicians work on acrylic, cast iron enamel and whirlpool & spa baths, and the jobs we see most are chips under the taps and rust by the waste and overflow.
Peace of mind is built in: our one-year guarantee applies to every job, and we’ll explain exactly what it covers when we quote.

Repairing versus replacing in The Stocks
Replacing a bath rarely stops at the bath: tiles along the rim typically crack when it comes out, a new panel is frequently needed, and a plumber has to disconnect and reconnect everything. Repairing the damage avoids all of that. Repairs from £95, with every job priced individually. We do not add extras on the day. What we quote from your photos is what you pay, and if the damage turns out to be different, we discuss it before starting.

What we cannot put right
To be straight with you, some problems need a different fix:
- Leaks from the waste or overflow fittings (a plumber’s job)
- A bath that moves underfoot, until its support is fixed
- Acrylic cracks with no access behind them
Send us photos and we will tell you honestly.
Materials we work on in The Stocks
- Whirlpool & spa baths
- Pressed steel enamel
- Acrylic
- Cast iron enamel
- Roll-top & freestanding
Looking after it afterwards
Looking after the surface is easy, and it makes a real difference:
- Avoid scourers, wire wool and gritty cream cleaners
- A dripping tap stains enamel, so fix it early
- Put a towel in the bath if you are working above it
- Have new chips seen to early
Give the repair the full curing time we recommend before running a bath. After that, gentle cleaning keeps it looking good.
Small chips are quick to repair. Left alone, they stain and can rust, so early repair saves time and money.
What happens on the day
We begin by going over the job with you, so there are no surprises. After that, protection goes down around the work area and the work begins. It normally takes a few hours, and we’ll tell you if anything changes.
- Dust sheets and masking go down around the bath.
- The damaged area is cleaned, keyed and degreased, and any rust is treated.
- Filler goes in and is sanded flush once it has set.
- Colour and gloss are matched to the surrounding surface.
- We tidy up and tell you when the bath can be used, normally the next day.
Preparing for the visit
- Let us know if it has been repaired before
- Keep pets and children out of the room while we work
- Tell us about parking, stairs or access
Ask for a price
The quickest way to a price is to send a couple of photos using our quote form or call us. We’ll say straight away if a repair is the right fix.
Related advice
Different materials, different repairs
Cast iron
Cast iron baths are thick and very strong, with a fused enamel surface. A chip down to the iron can rust, but the body of the bath lasts a very long time, which makes it well worth repairing.
Acrylic
An acrylic bath is a moulded sheet strengthened from below. There is no rust, but cracks, holes and scratches happen, and cracks need support from behind to stay fixed.
What bath repair costs
Repairs from £95. A fixed quote means you know the cost before booking. We look at:
- Whether we combine several jobs
- How many areas need work
- The material
- Previous DIY repairs that have to come out
Instead of hourly rates, we fix the price before we start. Damage, material and access decide it, and combining items on one visit brings it down.
Send photos for a quote
Photographing the damage takes a minute. Please include:
- A clear, close picture of the problem area
- Natural light rather than flash
- Whether it’s been repaired or coated before
- One picture of the whole bath
No survey visit is needed: we price from pictures. Use the quote form, or ring 0345 017 0787 to talk it through, and we will come back with a fixed figure.
Can I fix it myself?
DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can make a small mark look better. The trouble is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler frequently lifts.
For a hairline mark somewhere you will never see, a kit may be enough. For anything you look at every day, anything that has rusted, cracked or holed, or anything on a coloured surface, a professional repair is worth it.
