Keeping it looking good

Most damage we see is avoidable. These habits help:

  • Keep metal cans and razors off the surface
  • If an acrylic bath flexes, have its feet adjusted
  • A dripping tap stains enamel, so fix it early
  • Rinse it down after each bath

Use gentle, non-abrasive cleaners and try not to drop heavy bottles on the repair. Deal with new chips early, before rust sets in.

Tape over a fresh chip or crack until it’s repaired, to keep water out. Take it off before we arrive.

About our bath repair in Tintagel

We repair enamelled steel, cast iron and acrylic baths. Each material is repaired a little differently: rust is treated on metal baths, while cracks in acrylic are reinforced from underneath. Our repair technicians work on cast iron enamel, pressed steel enamel and roll-top & freestanding, and people most often call us about rust spots around the plughole and a kit repair that didn’t last.

Every repair comes with a one-year guarantee.

Work for landlords and builders

Builders use us to fix snagging damage before handover, so there is no need to replace a damaged item at the last minute. Several plots can be done in one visit to keep costs down.

Builders, developers and site managers book us for snagging repairs, fixing chips and scratches before handover. We’re CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor accredited.

Should I try a DIY kit first?

If you’ve already tried a DIY fix, that is fine. We remove the old filler and start again, so it won’t stop us repairing it. Just mention it when you send pictures, as it can add time.

DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can make a small mark look better. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface isn’t prepared the repair won’t last.

Prices and what affects them

Prices start from £95. There are no hourly rates or hidden extras. The price depends on:

  • Doing more than one item at once
  • What kind of damage it is
  • The material
  • Unusual colours or finishes

The price depends on the type and amount of damage, the material and how many jobs we combine into one visit. We give a fixed price from your photos, so there are no surprises on the day.

Send photos for a quote

When you take your photos, a few simple things make all the difference:

  • A coin or ruler next to the damage for scale
  • One picture of the entire bath
  • Where you are, by postcode
  • A close-up of the damage, in focus

Most customers in Tintagel get their price from photos. Add a line about what happened and your postcode, and we’ll reply with a fixed quote and the earliest dates we have.

Common questions in Tintagel

How long before I can use the bath?

Normally by the following day, though it depends on what we have done.

I tried a repair kit. Can you fix it?

Yes. We remove the old filler and start again. Mention it when you send pictures.

Can you redo someone else’s repair?

Yes, regularly. Removing the old work can add time, and that is in the quote.

Will there be a smell?

Some materials have a smell while they’re applied. It fades as everything cures.

Can I add another job to the visit?

Of course, and it generally saves money. Send pictures of everything together and you will get one combined price.

Is there a call-out fee?

There’s no separate call-out charge. Your fixed quote includes everything.

Can pets and children be at home?

On the day, the room should be kept clear of pets and children.

Can you repair a hole in a bath?

Frequently, if there’s access underneath. We back the hole, fill it and refinish the surface.

What your bath is made of matters

Acrylic

Acrylic is light and warm to the touch, but it needs firm support underneath. Cracks are strengthened from behind before the front is finished.

Pressed steel

Under the enamel of a steel bath is thin metal. Exposed steel rusts quickly, so we treat and seal the metal before filling.

Repair or replace: which is better?

Many people think a damaged bath means a new one. Normally it does not: a repair keeps the bath in service for years, without the cost and upheaval of replacing it. Prices start from £95. Compared with replacing, repairing typically costs far less, because there’s no removal, plumbing or making good. Your fixed quote shows exactly what’s included.

How the visit works

We turn up at the time we agreed with you, introduces themselves and looks over the damage before anything else. The floor and nearby surfaces are covered before any work starts. Most visits take two to three hours for most chips, and we leave the room as we found it.

  1. We start by cleaning the damage and taking out loose enamel and rust.
  2. The chip or crack is filled, then sanded level with the bath.
  3. The colour is mixed on the spot to match your bath.
  4. We build up the finish and polish it into the surrounding enamel.
  5. Once it has cured, normally by the following day, the bath is ready to use.

How to prepare

  • Let us know which floor the room is on
  • Have somewhere for us to park nearby if possible
  • Open a window if you can
