About our bath repair in Town End
Whether your bath is steel, cast iron or acrylic, we can repair it. The method changes with the material: rust is treated on metal baths, while cracks in acrylic are reinforced from underneath. We’re frequently asked to fix a failed DIY repair that’s discoloured or lifting and rust spots around the plughole, across whirlpool & spa baths, cast iron enamel and roll-top & freestanding.
You are covered for a year from the day of the repair. If anything isn’t right, ring us and we will come back.

Common problems we fix in Town End
Baths take more knocks than people expect: bottles, shower heads and razors are dropped every day, and fittings press hard against the enamel. Sooner or later, most baths pick up a chip.
These are the problems we are asked about most:
- Deep scratches in acrylic
- Snagging damage from a refit
- Rusty patches near the plughole
- A chip where the taps sit

The process
It’s a tidy, low-fuss visit. We confirm the time with you beforehand, protect the area, then carry out the work, which normally takes two to three hours for most chips. If anything looks different from your photos, we will talk to you before going ahead.
- We start by cleaning the damage and taking out loose enamel and rust.
- The chip or crack is filled, then sanded level with the bath.
- We mix the colour on the day to match your bath’s exact shade.
- Finish coats go on, then the repair is polished to blend in.
- Once it has cured, generally by the following day, the bath is ready to use.
How to prepare
- Keep children and pets away from the room on the day
- Let us know about parking or access
- Tell us about any previous repairs or coatings

Advice
DIY repairs versus a professional job
Kits are cheap and easy to find, but the repairs we redo most frequently are DIY ones that have discoloured or lifted. Doing it properly first is normally the cheaper route.
We understand the appeal of fixing it yourself. The risk is that a kit repair hides the damage for a while, then fails, and the old filler has to come out before a proper repair.
What a repair cannot fix
To be straight with you, there are a few things a repair will not fix:
- Leaking fittings, which need a plumber
- Acrylic cracks with no access behind them
- A bath that moves underfoot, until its support is fixed
Send us pictures and we will tell you honestly.
Surfaces we repair
- Roll-top & freestanding
- Acrylic
- Cast iron enamel
- Whirlpool & spa baths
- Pressed steel enamel
Looking after it afterwards
To keep it looking its best:
- Store metal items away from the bath
- Get a dripping tap fixed promptly
- Keep abrasive pads and gritty cleaners away from the bath
- If an acrylic bath flexes, have its feet adjusted
Keep metal objects like razors and cans off the surface, as they can leave rust marks. A dripping tap should be fixed early, too.
Rust spreads under enamel faster than most people expect. Left for months, a small chip can grow into a large rust patch, so it pays to deal with it early.

Town End questions
What happens if you find more damage?
It’s rare, but if it happens we talk to you first. You decide whether to go ahead.
Can you repair several things at once?
Yes. Doing several items on one visit typically costs less than separate visits. Include pictures of each item.
Are there extra charges for Town End?
We don’t add a call-out fee. The fixed quote covers the visit and the work.
It’s been repaired before. Can you still fix it?
Yes, regularly. It can add a little time, which we include in the quote.
What happens once I’ve sent photos?
You get a fixed quote and available dates. If anything’s unclear, we will ask for another photo.
Will there be a smell?
Some materials have a smell while they’re applied, so we ventilate the room. It fades as everything cures.
Can you redo an old repair?
Yes. We remove the old filler and start again. Mention it when you send pictures.
Will I be able to see the repair?
On a bath in good condition, a colour matched repair is very hard to spot. On older, dull enamel the repair can look glossier than the area around it.
Repair or replace in Town End?
People often assume a cracked or chipped bath has to come out. Generally it doesn’t: a repair keeps the bath in service for years, and costs far less than the disruption of a replacement. Our bath repair starts from £95. The price reflects the work involved, not where you live. You will see the full price before booking, with nothing added on the day.
