Materials and what they mean for the repair

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are so heavy that repairing in place makes obvious sense. The enamel is the part that wears or chips, and that is what we repair.

Pressed steel

Steel baths and trays have a thin metal body under the enamel. Exposed steel rusts quickly, so we treat and seal the metal before filling.

How we handle bath repair in Upper Church Village

Bath repair is our most common job. A chip by the taps, a crack in the base and a rust spot by the plughole are all repaired in place, normally in one visit. Whether it’s a failed DIY repair that’s discoloured or lifting and deep scratches in acrylic, we can help, whatever the material.

You are covered after we leave: our one-year guarantee applies to every job, and we’ll explain exactly what it covers when we quote.

Honest limits

We would rather lose a job than do one that will not last, so these are the limits:

  • Cracks in acrylic we cannot reach from underneath
  • Water coming from the waste or taps rather than the bath
  • Flexing caused by a failed cradle or loose feet

Not sure? Send pictures and we’ll give you a straight answer.

Keeping it looking good

Most damage we see is avoidable. A few tips:

  • Ensure an acrylic bath is firm underfoot
  • Put a towel in the bath if you’re working above it
  • Clean with warm water and a mild detergent
  • A dripping tap stains enamel, so fix it early

In the first few days, avoid putting weight or bottles on the repair. After that, normal gentle cleaning is fine.

Tape over a fresh chip or crack until it’s repaired, so water can’t get in. Take it off before we arrive.

Can I fix it myself?

We understand the appeal of fixing it yourself. The trouble is that kit repairs frequently look fine at first and then fail, and then the old filler has to be removed first.

A kit can be fine for a tiny mark out of sight. For damage in plain view, cracks, holes or rust, or coloured finishes, a professional repair is worth it.

Should you replace it?

Think about the hidden costs of a new bath: removal and disposal, plumbing, a new panel, tiling and decorating. A repair is one job, done in one visit. Repairs from £95, with every job priced individually. Compared with replacing, repairing generally costs far less, because there’s no removal, plumbing or making good. The quote lists exactly what you’re paying for.

The process

From the moment we arrive, we keep the work contained to the one room. Surfaces nearby are masked off, the work takes two to three hours for most chips, depending on what we find, and we finish by cleaning up and talking you through the result.

  1. We protect the bath and the floor around it.
  2. The damaged area is cleaned, keyed and degreased, and any rust is treated.
  3. Filler goes in and is sanded flush once it has set.
  4. Colour and gloss are matched to the surrounding surface.
  5. We tidy up and tell you when the bath can be used, generally the next day.

How to prepare

  • Mention any earlier repairs or resurfacing
  • Let us know which floor the room is on
  • Avoid using the area for a few hours before we arrive

Getting a price

  • Chips on the rim or sides

What bath repair costs

Repairs from £95. There is no charge for travel to Upper Church Village. The price comes down to:

Your questions about bath repair in Upper Church Village

What if the damage is worse than the photos show?

We stop, show you and agree any change before carrying on. You won’t be charged for anything you haven’t agreed.

How invisible is a bath repair?

On a bath in good condition, a colour matched repair is very hard to spot. On worn enamel, it can look shinier than the rest.

Is the work guaranteed?

All our work carries a one-year guarantee. Ask us what it covers when you get your quote.

Will the repair last?

It should, as long as the bath is firm and the area was prepared well. It’s covered by our one-year guarantee.

Can you repair something that is been repaired before?

Most of the time. Let us know what was used before.

Do the materials smell?

A little, depending on the job. Ventilation keeps it to a minimum.

Is a cracked acrylic bath repairable?

Most of the time. We reinforce the crack from behind, then fill and refinish the front, so we need access under the bath.

How do I book?

Send photos through the quote form or call 0345 017 0787, and we will do the rest.
