Bath repair in Upper Coll without replacing anything

Bath repair is our most common job. A chip by the taps, a crack in the base and a rust spot by the plughole are all fixed without removing the bath, normally in one visit. Our repair technicians work on whirlpool & spa baths, cast iron enamel and roll-top & freestanding, and people most frequently call us about holes from dropped items and deep scratches in acrylic.

A one-year guarantee comes with the work, just as it does everywhere we cover.

Should I try a DIY kit first?

We understand the appeal of fixing it yourself. The trouble is that kit repairs often look fine at first and then fail, and then the old filler has to be removed first.

A DIY attempt isn’t a disaster. We remove the old filler and start again, so it won’t stop us repairing it. Just mention it when you send photos, as it can add time.

Repair or replace in Upper Coll?

Replacing a bath rarely stops at the bath: tiles along the rim usually crack when it comes out, a new panel is frequently needed, and a plumber has to disconnect and reconnect everything. Repairing the damage avoids all of that. Prices start from £95. Every job is a little different, so each one is priced on its own. What’s damaged, how badly and how easy it is to reach all make a difference, and doing several things on one visit costs less than separate visits.

Why Upper Coll clients choose us

  • No need to remove anything
  • One-year guarantee on every repair
  • Normally one visit, start to finish
  • We come to you, anywhere in the UK

Common problems we fix in Upper Coll

Dropped items cause the majority of chips, and a lot happen during bathroom refits. Acrylic baths crack for a different reason: poor support underneath, so the bath flexes when it’s full.

These are the problems we are asked about most:

  • Rusty patches near the plughole
  • Damage beneath the taps
  • Impact holes in acrylic
  • Damage done while the bathroom was being fitted

What your quote should include

  • Aftercare advice
  • How changes to the job are handled
  • Whether the price covers travel
  • A fixed price, and whether VAT is included

What a repair can’t fix

We would rather lose a job than do one that won’t last, so here’s what a repair can’t put right:

  • Flexing caused by a failed cradle or loose feet
  • A steel bath rusted through
  • Cracks in parts of an acrylic bath we cannot get to from below

Send us photos and we will tell you honestly before you book.

Surfaces we repair

  • Acrylic
  • Whirlpool & spa baths
  • Roll-top & freestanding
  • Pressed steel enamel
  • Cast iron enamel

What your bath is made of matters

Pressed steel

Steel baths and trays have a thin metal body under the enamel. Exposed steel rusts quickly, so we treat and seal the metal before filling.

Cast iron

Cast iron is heavy and rigid, with a fused enamel surface. A chip down to the iron can rust, but the bath itself lasts for generations, which makes it well worth repairing.

How to look after the repair

A little care keeps the finish looking good. Our advice:

  • Rinse it down after each bath
  • Put a towel in the bath if you’re working above it
  • Clean with warm water and a mild detergent
  • Get a dripping tap fixed promptly

Keep metal objects like razors and cans off the surface, as they can leave rust marks. A dripping tap should be fixed early, too.

A chip on a metal bath shouldn’t be left. Water gets to the metal and rust starts, turning a quick repair into a bigger one.

The process

It’s a tidy, low-fuss visit. We agree the arrival time in advance, cover and mask the work area, and get on with the job, which usually takes a few hours, depending on the damage. If anything looks different from your photos, we’ll talk to you before going ahead.

  1. We clean the area and remove any loose enamel or rust.
  2. Next we fill the damage and sand it smooth and level.
  3. We tint the finish on the day to suit your bath’s shade of white or colour.
  4. We apply the finish coats and polish the repair so it blends in.
  5. We leave it to cure; you can normally use the bath the day after.

Before we arrive

  • Keep a parking space free if you can
  • Clear toiletries, mats and anything else from around the area
  • Open a window if you can
