Honest limits

Not everything can be repaired, and we would rather say so up front. Repairs won’t solve:

  • Cracks in acrylic we cannot reach from underneath
  • Leaks from the waste or overflow fittings (a plumber’s job)
  • Metal that has corroded all the way through

Not sure? Send photos and we’ll give you a straight answer before booking.

About our bath repair in Watersheddings

A typical bath repair is a few hours’ work, and you can normally bathe again the following day. There’s no need to book a plumber or tiler, because nothing is disconnected. Our repair technicians work on acrylic, pressed steel enamel and cast iron enamel, and the jobs we see most are rust by the waste and overflow and a chipped rim or side.

All of our repairs are guaranteed for twelve months, and the guarantee is the same wherever you live. We return to put right any problem with the work.

Before and after: a chipped, rust-stained bath around the plughole

What bath repair costs

Repairs from £95. You won’t pay by the hour. The price depends on:

  • Whether it’s a chip, crack, burn or wear
  • The material and finish
  • How easy the damage is to reach
  • How many items we do on one visit

A repair is priced on what needs doing, not where you live. The full price is agreed before you book, with nothing added on the day.

Quotes from your photos

You can take the pictures on your phone, there is no need for anything special. Make sure they show:

  • One sharp close-up of the damage
  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit
  • Daylight if possible, and no flash reflection
  • A picture taken from further back

If you’re in Watersheddings and want a price, the easiest route is pictures: one close up, one from further back, plus your postcode. You will get a fixed quote with dates to choose from.

Should you replace it?

A repair makes sense whenever the damage is localised. It’s a fraction of the cost of a new bath and fitting, it takes one visit, and nothing else in the room changes. Repairs from £95, with every job priced individually. No two jobs are quite the same, so each one is priced on its own. What’s damaged, how badly and how easy it is to reach all make a difference, and doing several things on one visit costs less than separate visits.

What happens on the day

You don’t need to empty the room beforehand. We bring everything we need with us, put protection down and start once you’re happy with the plan. It typically takes a morning or an afternoon, and you are welcome to carry on with your day while we work.

  1. First, we check the damage against your photos and agree the plan.
  2. Any rust and loose material comes out, and the area is degreased.
  3. We build up the filler in layers, shaping it to the bath.
  4. We tint the finish by hand to match the bath.
  5. The repair is polished to the same gloss as the bath and left to cure.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Ensure the room can be ventilated
  • Let us know if it has been repaired before
  • Keep pets and children out of the room while we work

Getting a price

No survey visit is needed: we price from photos. Send them through the quote form, or call 0345 017 0787 if you’d rather talk it through, and you will get a fixed figure back.

Related advice

Repairs by material

Composite and resin

Stone resin and composite baths are heavy and solid. Chips and scratches are filled and matched, in much the same way.

Pressed steel

Under the enamel of a steel bath is thin metal. Once a chip exposes it, rust follows quickly, so we treat and seal the metal before filling.

Looking after it afterwards

A little care keeps the finish looking good. Our advice:

  • Ensure an acrylic bath is firm underfoot
  • Cover the bath during DIY or decorating
  • A dripping tap stains enamel, so fix it early
  • Don’t leave razors or cans standing in the bath

For the first few days, keep heavy bottles off the repaired spot. After that, clean it as you would the rest of the bath, avoiding abrasives.

A chip on a metal bath shouldn’t be left. Water gets to the metal and rust starts, and a rust spot is a bigger repair than a clean chip.

DIY repairs versus a professional job

If you’re set on a kit, follow its instructions closely, make sure the area is clean and completely dry, and give it the full curing time. If it fails, we can still put it right.

A kit can be fine for a tiny mark out of sight. For damage in plain view, cracks, holes or rust, or coloured finishes, a professional repair is worth it.

Watersheddings questions

What happens after I send photos?

We check the damage, the material and your postcode, then reply with a quote with dates.

Is there a guarantee?

All our work carries our one-year guarantee. Ask us what it covers when you get your quote.

Will I be able to see the repair?

On a bath in good condition, a colour-matched repair is very hard to spot. On older, dull enamel the repair can look glossier than the area around it.

Are you accredited?

We’re accredited with CHAS, Constructionline, SafeContractor, SMAS Worksafe and Builder’s Profile.

Can I get a quote without a visit?

In nearly every case. We only ask to see it in person if the photos cannot show what we need.

Can you redo an old repair?

Yes. We remove the old filler and start again. Mention it when you send pictures.

Do you work for landlords and businesses?

Yes. We carry out repairs for householders, landlords, letting agents, builders and businesses in Watersheddings.

Will it make a mess?

Very little mess: we sheet and mask everything nearby, and we take our waste away with us.

Work for landlords and builders

For developers and builders, we fix damage before handover. We can visit several plots in one trip to keep costs down.

Hotels, guest houses and holiday lets cannot afford rooms out of action for long, so most of our work is done in a single visit. We will fit around changeovers where we can.
