Bath resealing in Aithsetter

Bath resealing in Aithsetter, done in place

Preparation is everything in a reseal: every bit of old silicone out, mould treated, the joint clean and dry. Only then does the new sealant go on, in a neat, continuous bead. If you are dealing with gaps by the taps and leaks at the edges, we can help.

A one-year guarantee comes as standard.

Aftercare tips

So the finish stays in good condition:

  • Reseal when black spots won’t clean off
  • Let steam out after showers
  • Wipe the joints dry after use
  • Store bottles on a shelf

Good ventilation is the best protection, and wipe the joints after use.

Reseal before water gets in. Split or lifting sealant is a sign it’s time.

Honest limits

A few problems are outside what a surface repair can do:

  • Hollow or loose tiles
  • Very wide gaps that need a trim
  • Movement in the bath or tray

Not sure? Send pictures and we’ll give you a straight answer.

Materials we repair

  • Shower trays & enclosures
  • Kitchen worktops & sinks
  • Baths
  • Basins & vanity units
  • Wet rooms

Should I try a DIY kit first?

If you do try a kit, read the instructions carefully, ensure the area is clean and completely dry, and give it the full curing time. If it fails, we can still put it right.

DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can tidy up a tiny mark. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler frequently lifts.

Work for landlords and builders

Rented homes see more wear and tear, and replacing things at every changeover adds up. Repairing between tenants keeps the property presentable for less.

Builders use us to fix snagging damage before handover. Several plots can be done in one visit.

Repairs by material

Shower trays

Trays are sealed with weight on them, so the joint is at its widest.

Sinks and worktops

We reseal basins, vanity tops and kitchen worktops, with the joint fully dried first.

What we do, step by step

We work cleanly and quietly, so you can stay at home while we are there. We protect the area first, then the work takes around two hours. Before we leave, we explain the curing time and the aftercare.

  1. The surrounding area is protected and the joints masked.
  2. We remove the old sealant and every trace of residue.
  3. We clean, treat and dry the joint.
  4. Fresh silicone is applied in a continuous bead.
  5. We smooth the bead, remove the tape and leave it to cure.

Questions from Aithsetter

Do you seal over the old sealant?

We always remove the old sealant completely. Fresh silicone does not stick to old.

Is it OK to have pets in the house?

Please keep children and pets out of the room during the visit and until it has cured. The rest of the house is unaffected.

Can I get a quote without a visit?

In nearly every case. If pictures do not show enough, we will ask for another angle.

Do you come to Aithsetter?

We do. We send a technician to Aithsetter for every job, and the price is the same as everywhere else.

Is it worth repairing rather than replacing?

Typically, if the item is otherwise sound. Repairing avoids the cost and disruption of replacing. We will tell you honestly if replacement makes more sense.

Do you cover the whole of the Shetland Islands?

All of the Shetland Islands, and the rest of the UK. There’s no extra charge for travel.

Do you charge for travel?

No. Our quotes include travel, and we charge the same wherever you are.

Can you do more than one item on the same visit?

Of course, and it usually saves money. Just add the extra items to your photos and we’ll quote them together.

Common problems we fix in Aithsetter

Black mould is the most common reason people reseal. It grows into the sealant itself, so cleaning cannot get it all out.

Look out for any of the following:

  • An untidy old seal
  • Missing sealant behind the taps
  • Mould you can’t clean out
  • Damp near the bath

10 questions to ask before you book

Why it’s worth resealing in Aithsetter

A reseal is one of the cheapest bathroom jobs there is. Failed sealant can lead to water damage that is much more expensive. What it costs depends on how much damage there is and what kind, the material and how many jobs we combine into one visit. We give a fixed price from your photos, so you know the cost before booking.
