What we cannot put right

In fairness, there are a few things a repair won’t fix:

  • Gaps so wide they need filling or trims before sealing
  • A flexing bath
  • Hollow or loose tiles

Not sure? Send photos and we’ll give you a straight answer before you book.

Materials we repair

  • Wet rooms
  • Basins & vanity units
  • Baths
  • Shower trays & enclosures
  • Kitchen worktops & sinks

Bath resealing in Ashton without replacing anything

We cut out all of the old sealant, deal with any mould, and reseal with new mould-resistant silicone. We do this for baths, showers, sinks and worktops, including the awkward bits behind the taps. Whether it’s mould you can’t clean out and sealant that’s split or lifting, we can typically put it right, on wet rooms, baths and basins & vanity units alike.

The work is guaranteed for twelve months. If there is a problem with the repair within the year, we return and sort it.

The process

Nothing needs to be moved out of the room beforehand. We bring everything we need with us, put protection down and start once you’re happy with the plan. It usually takes about two hours for a bath, and you can get on with other things while we are there.

  1. The surrounding area is protected and the joints masked.
  2. We remove the old sealant and every trace of residue.
  3. The joint is cleaned, treated and dried.
  4. Fresh silicone is applied in a continuous bead.
  5. We smooth the bead, remove the tape and leave it to cure.

Preparing for the visit

  • Move bottles, mats and clutter away from the area
  • Keep children and pets away from the room on the day
  • Ensure the area is dry

Advice

For landlords and businesses

Rental properties take more wear, and replacing things at every changeover adds up. Repairing between tenants keeps the property presentable for less.

We carry out planned and one-off repairs for housing associations and facilities teams in Inverclyde and across the UK. A repair avoids taking out and refitting, which is easier on the people living there.

Different materials, different repairs

Shower trays

We put weight on a tray before sealing it, for the same reason.

Baths

We fill the bath before sealing, so the joint is at its widest.

Common problems we fix in Ashton

Poor ventilation speeds things up: moisture sits on the joints longer, and mould takes hold.

Common reasons people in Ashton contact us are:

  • Unsealed corners
  • An untidy old seal
  • Silicone coming away from the tiles
  • Leaks at the edges

Questions to ask before you book

  • Whether a trained technician does the job
  • How long the guarantee is and what it covers
  • What happens if they find more damage
  • Whether the price is fixed and includes VAT

Why reseal now?

Putting new silicone over old doesn’t last. It peels within weeks, and mould stays trapped behind it. We remove the old sealant completely. There are no surprise extras on the day. The price we quote from your photos is the price you pay, and if the damage turns out to be different, we discuss it before starting.

Questions from Ashton

Can you price it without visiting?

Yes, almost always. A close-up and a wider photo are enough to give a fixed quote.

Can you redo someone else’s repair?

Yes, regularly. It can add a little time, which we include in the quote.

How long does a reseal take?

Generally a couple of hours, then it needs to cure.

How soon can you come?

We’ll give you dates with your quote. Tell us if you need it done quickly.

What if the damage is worse than the photos show?

Your quote covers the damage in the pictures. If there is more, we will tell you before starting.

Do you seal over the old sealant?

All the old sealant comes out. Fresh silicone doesn’t stick to old.

Do I need to be at home?

Yes. The technician needs access to the room for the visit, at a time that suits you.

Can you do more than one item on the same visit?

Of course, and it usually saves money. Just add the extra items to your photos and we will quote them together.

Can I fix it myself?

If you’ve already tried a DIY fix, that is fine. We take the old repair out and do it properly, so it won’t stop us repairing it. Just mention it when you send pictures, as it can add time.

DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can make a small mark look better. The trouble is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface isn’t prepared the repair won’t last.

Prices and what affects them

There is no area surcharge for Ashton. What changes the price is:

  • How many items we do on one visit
  • How many areas need work
  • Where the damage is and how we get to it
  • Whether it’s a chip, crack, burn or wear

Rather than charging by the hour, we fix the price before we start. It depends on the damage, the material and access, and combining items on one visit brings it down.

Getting a price from photos

Before you send photos, these tips help us give you a firm price:

  • The material, if you know it
  • A coin or ruler next to the damage for scale
  • Whether it’s been repaired or coated before
  • One sharp close-up of the damage

Most customers in Ashton get their price from photos. Add a line about what happened and your postcode, and we’ll reply with a fixed quote and the earliest dates we have.
