Bath resealing in Birkenhead, done in place

Baths, trays, basins and kitchen worktops all get resealed using mould-resistant silicone. A typical reseal takes a couple of hours, then it needs to cure. We work on wet rooms, shower trays & enclosures and basins & vanity units, and people most often call us about silicone coming away from the tiles and unsealed corners.

A one-year guarantee comes as standard.

Keeping it looking good

After the repair has cured, a few habits help it last:

  • Keep bottles off the joints
  • Clean the sealant gently and regularly
  • Dry the seal after bathing
  • Use the extractor fan

Good ventilation is the best protection, and wipe the joints after use so mould struggles to take hold.

Black mould in sealant is not just unsightly, it’s a sign moisture is sitting in the joint. Resealing early keeps water out of the walls and floor.

What happens on the day

Nothing needs to be moved out of the room beforehand. We bring everything we need with us, lay protective sheets and start once you’re happy with the plan. It normally takes around two hours, and you can get on with other things while we’re there.

  1. We cut out and remove all of the old sealant.
  2. The joint is cleaned and any mould treated.
  3. We make sure the joint is completely dry.
  4. We fill a bath with water before sealing so the gap is at its widest.
  5. We apply new mould-resistant silicone and tool it to a neat finish, taps included.

Before we arrive

  • Let us know if it has been repaired before
  • Tell us if there are stairs or a lift
  • Keep children and pets away from the room on the day

Birkenhead: your questions answered

Which areas do you work in?

We work UK-wide, so Birkenhead is covered. Prices don’t change with location.

Do you come to Birkenhead?

We do. We send a technician to Birkenhead for every job, with no extra charge for travel.

Will there be a smell?

There may be a mild smell during the work, which fades afterwards.

Does someone need to be in?

Yes. We need access to the room while we work, at a time we agree with you.

Do you do work for letting agents?

Yes, often. We can quote for several properties together and work between tenancies.

How soon can you come?

We will give you dates with your quote. If it’s urgent, say so and we’ll do what we can.

Is repairing better than replacing?

Typically, when the rest is in good condition. A repair avoids removal and making good. If replacing would be better, we’ll say so.

Can I add another job to the visit?

Of course, and it normally saves money. Just add the extra items to your pictures and you’ll get one combined price.

Common problems we fix in Birkenhead

Most reseals are because of black mould. It grows into the sealant itself, so cleaning can’t get it all out.

The things clients typically mention when they call include:

  • Stained silicone
  • Unsealed corners
  • Black spots in the silicone
  • Silicone coming away from the tiles

What your quote should include

  • A fixed price, and whether VAT is included
  • If travel is included in the price
  • Whether they match the colour on site
  • How the room is protected while they work

10 questions to ask before you book

When a repair isn’t the answer

Some problems need a builder, plumber or fitter rather than us:

  • Gaps too big for silicone alone
  • A bath or tray that moves, until its support is fixed
  • Rotten walls or floors behind the bath

If in doubt, send pictures and we’ll say what we think before booking.

Materials we work on in Birkenhead

  • Shower trays & enclosures
  • Kitchen worktops & sinks
  • Baths
  • Wet rooms
  • Basins & vanity units

Why reseal now?

Resealing costs very little, and it protects everything around the bath. Leaving failed sealant can let water cause damage that costs far more to fix. We don’t add extras on the day. The price we quote from your pictures is the price you pay, and if the damage turns out to be different, we discuss it before starting.

DIY repairs versus a professional job

It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The risk is that a kit repair hides the damage for a while, then fails, and the old filler has to come out before a proper repair.

DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can make a small mark look better. The trouble is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler often lifts.
